Jungle complete with fall arrest support rail.

The kids wear a harness that prevents them from falling.

Assuming it's constructed properly there is no safety risk.

I'm interested in how that harness rail works, given the right angles and the need to get past vertical support columns in certain places.

Also... how would the harness get through the crawl tunnel? Do the boards not go all the way around? (Hard to tell from this angle)

It's a c channel piece of steel. The harness is connected to a bearing assembly that slides through the channel.

At the beginning is the only place where the bearing can get out, and traditionally you put a locking mechanism so only one person can take a kid in and out.

Similarly the harnesses typically have a lock on them so a kid can't undo it while up at height.

There are usually T connections at each obstacle or milestone, so one kid can slip into the T end while another kid passes.

Around posts there's a series of those T connections in a radius so you can go right around the column.

The c channel is continuous through the entire course, which is possible because it's fastened from a gantry above.

The bearing is connected to the harness with

Hahaha. Harness never fail, kids never drop anything, this is fine.

Youre right. For your own safety we should put you in a padded room. Secure your arms so you cant hurt yourself.

While you have fun in your cell, the rest of us will live our lives.

Classic dumb slippery slope argument. The sensible thing to do is reduce risk where it's obvious

The sensible thing to do is make cool dope shit thats safe enough.

Your suggestions make it radically less cool and dope.

I've never seen a harness fail. I literally put my life in the hands of a harness every time I step into fall protection.

It's the same harness anyone uses working at heights.

But workers do it and can be 100' in the air, these kids are 10' up.

If it's applied properly, it's tested, and it's inspected regularly they don't fail. They cant.

Also you typically have as much redundancy in those systems as possible, so if you can have 2 straps, you have 2 straps.

And you can't have much access to your pockets when the harness is on. Sure some kid may bring something, but you mitigate that with the pat you do while you inspect the kids harness.

These systems are only ever deployed when trained staff are there to manage. It's pretty simple stuff.

I mean, it's an indoor rollercoaster, and an elevated play area without any guardrails. I don't think safety was a prime concern when they built this.

It looks like there is a harness rail above the play area. So kids aren’t let loose freely on it, they’re attached to a harness

The harnesses for things like that are secured in the back and are pretty much impossible for kids to take off themselves. There’s a place near me that has the same tracks on a climbing platform and there is no getting those harnesses off without help.

Are you both stupid? You are attached to a safety harness when climbing these things, it’s not up for chance that someone could fall down there 3-4 meters…

To be fair, I don't think I've ever seen an indoor jungle gym like that before. If you don't know those are a thing, and there's no kids actively using it, the rail just looks part of the support structure.

Because unsupervised children have never done anything stupid...

They are not unsupervised, you can only enter this with supervision. Even without the train tracks it would be too high to be safe without. So the train tracks don’t change anything here. It’s an elevated climbing area that exists in multiple parts of the world, usually in forests on big trees and much higher. This is just a small indoor/mall version.

Have you been to this particular one? You seem to be a self-described authority on it.

You do not have parents in your country. They are very useful in a lot of circumstances.

Where is this? If you know I'm wondering if this has been documented on the roller coaster database

Found this while travelling to penang in malaysia, this is in one of their malls called Prangin mall near the KOMTAR building in the city.

What was the place called if you remember?

no, sorry.

How is this crappy design? There is clearly a rail for a harness so the children aren’t going to fall. They just maximized the use of the available space in a safe way.

Wow, but if they unclip their harness, harness fails or whatever, bad luck, metal wheels smashing your head.
