Discussion / Conversation Citi Strata Elite $300 Travel credit

Considering getting the Citi strata elite but was curious on datapoints for the $300 travel credit. Is the travel portal competitive with prices on other sites? How hard is it to use that credit?

Discussion / Conversation Is moving $100,000 investments to a bank to get 4% catch all credit card worth it?

• Upvotes

So I have a 4% catch all credit card that I haven’t been using because the bank requires at least $100,000 of my investments parked with them.

My current credit card is a 3% catch all. My annual ”chargeable” spend is around $40K to $50K. Is it worth all the time/trouble to change over all investments and IRAs?

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Looking to Maximize my cards earnings potential

Hello Reddit, I’m a 23yr old male with a 755 score. I have been steadily and safely building my credit since I was 18 but I want to change it up a bit and start maximizing my earnings potential!

These are the cards I currently hold. The Altitude Go being my oldest.

AmEx Blue Cash Preferred (AF$95)

Rewards* *
Limited 6% on Groceries per year at us supermarkets
Unlimited 6% on select us streaming subscriptions
Unlimited 3% on rideshare, parking, trains, busses, taxis and tolls
Unlimited 3% at gas stations
Credits
$120 Disney Streaming Credit in $10 monthly statement credits
Lounge
NO

US Bank Smartly (AF$0)

Rewards* *
Unlimited 2% Cash Back
Credits
NO Credits
Lounge
NO

US Bank Altitude GO (AF$0)

Rewards* *
Unlimited 4x on dining, takeout and restaurant delivery
Unlimited 2x at Grocery Stores and gas stations
Unlimited 2x on Streaming Services
Credits
15$ credit annually for streaming purchases
Lounge
NO

US Bank Altitude Connect (AF$0)

Rewards* *
Unlimited 5x on prepaid hotels and car rentals booked directly in the travel center
Limited 4x on travel and gas stations, for the first $1000 each quarter
Unlimited 2x on dining, streaming services and grocery stores
Credits
Unspecified TSA PreCheck
Lounge
YES Airport Lounge Access

All of my cards serve me a primary purpose. My Amex card pays off its AF since I use the Disney credits and then the 6% on streaming and supermarkets racks up a lot of points for me. My US Bank Altitude cards give me 4x on gas and restaurants. My altitude connect gives me 4-5x on hotels and flights. Finally my US bank smartly card is my 2% catch all card for anything else.

I feel like I have a pretty solid setup but I would like to maximize my earnings potential. I ONLY use my points for travel expenses and I’m currently employed by Marriott International, so I get heavily discounted room rates for Marriott branded hotels. I am also content with my company and plan to make a long term career out of it since I work at a Ritz Carlton property which gets me loads of added benefits and after 25 years of service I would be eligible for free hotel stays for life.

I’ve been considering a Marriott Bonvoy branded credit card but I’m not sure how beneficial it would be, but I primarily stay at Marriott branded properties due to my discount. I also want a better credit card for accumulating airline points/miles. I really want to maximize my travel potential and comfortability while traveling. A bonus from my altitude connect card is I get 4 Lounge visits a year where I can relax and get some complimentary snacks. There is a Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card that has a $650 AF that comes with platinum status which guarantees club lounge access, where I would get more complimentary snacks and services.

What other cards should I consider looking into and out of my current cards which should I keep or replace?

Help Needed / Question Did I just make a big mistake?

I called today and cancelled a Chase Disney Visa. At the end of the call, I was told I’d had the account for 19 years. The credit limit was 25k. Reason for cancelling, my kids are grown and we don’t don’t go to Disney and I don’t use it. I also want to cancel an old Southwest Visa. It’s also an old account. My daughter lived far away, I used the SW card for everything and never paid for a flight. She’s since moved back to within 20 mins of me. I think that limit is like 35k. What I’d like is to apply for the Chase Sapphire Card. I travel a lot, just not to Disney or on SW. I would turn that card into my daily user for the points. But I’m kind of afraid of totally jacking up my credit. Is there a way to do this that will soften the blow? Should I keep SW and drop the credit limit? Just keep it in a drawer? My credit score is 830ish, and I pay my bills in full monthly. I don’t know how bad it’ll be to get rid out f two old cards and apply for a new one. Any pointers?

Help Needed / Question Concora Card I Didn’t Open

Hi everyone! I just received a Concora card in the mail, I assumed it was one of those scummy activate immediately things so I didn’t look into it much. But today I got a notification something had been added to my credit report, a $300 card with them. I do remember having an application with them, but closing it out since it was a $60 AF with only a $300 limit and horrible benefits.

I was wondering if I should call Concora and request closure or just file a dispute with the credit bureaus since I never authorized the opening of this card, or anything past a soft check. If anyone has any advice on what to say or what route to take let me know! Thank you!

Discussion / Conversation Can't verify information- Citi Costco

Hi,

I could use your help. I did a search but didn't find anything. I've applied for the Citi Costco card twice and denied both times. The first time, I forgot to remove the freeze with all three credit bureaus. I waited several months and reapplied, freeze off, and was denied again. I have an over 750 credit score, another credit card with a $15k limit, I pay my balance every week. I make over $200k a year and no loans, not car or home. I've tried calling but they only offer customer service options for applicants or cardholders.

Any idea what the problem could be? I'm a Costco member in good standing.

Thanks!

Help Needed / Question CSP approved: Best timing to apply for Bilt card next?

Hey everyone!! I just got approved for the Chase Sapphire Preferred, and I want to apply for the Bilt Obsidian or Palladium to pay my $ 4k rent.

I have an average FICO score of 740 across all three bureaus. 60k of income, 25 years, no debt at all

My current setup includes a Discover it ($2,100 limit) and a Chase Freedom Unlimited ($1,000 limit) , how long should I wait before pulling the trigger?

I'm new with credit cards; any help would be appreciated!

Discussion / Conversation Is it still worth it to request higher limits on your business credit cards to improve your business credit card applications down the line? Or does that later hurt your odds at biz credit cards?

In your personal experience, how did it play out?

I requested and received a limit increase on my amex 2% business credit card to around 20k

And then I wondered about the above

Help Needed / Question No Hotel/Airline Loyalty for travel

Hello everyone, I have been recently watching videos about redeeming points for travel. But I have wondered, I am not loyal to any hotel or airline. I mostly do roadtrip around 3-4 times a year and always stay in the cheapest hotels because I like to discover the places I go to. Most of the hotels I book are through Expedia because they have good offers. If I’m not loyal to any brand, what would be the best credit cards for me? Or just continue what I have been doing.

My first card was the Freedom Unlimited at 18. At 21 I got the Quicksilver, I really don’t know why, and a couple months ago I got the Sapphire Preferred.

I would appreciate any recommendations, thank you.

Help Needed / Question Should I product change my Discover it Chrome to Cash Back or apply for a second Discover card?

It’s almost been a year since I got my first credit card, the Discover it Chrome. I wanted the Discover it Cash Back, but I think as a first credit card you couldn’t get that.
Now that I'm getting close to having the card for a year, I'm trying to figure out what would be the best move for both building my credit and maximizing cash back.
I'm considering two options:
Product change my Chrome to the Discover it Cash Back.
Apply for a second card (the Discover it Cash Back) and keep my Chrome open.
I've read that opening a second card can temporarily lower your score because of the hard inquiry and new account, but it can also help build a thicker credit profile over time. I've also heard that it's generally better to have multiple revolving accounts rather than just one.
I'm not planning on taking out a major loan anytime soon, so I'm more concerned about building a strong credit profile long-term and getting the most rewards possible.
Would it make more sense to apply for the second card once my Chrome reaches 12 months, especially if I could get the first-year Cashback Match? Or would product-changing be the smarter move?
I'd appreciate any advice!!

Help Needed / Question Capital One holding payment

I’ve had some trouble with Capital One whenever I make a large payment to my credit card. I had this problem for the last year.

Last year before a vacation, I made a large payment to my credit card. I intended to use this credit card for my hotel for a trip, so I made a much higher payment than I usually do to my monthly payment. Capital One then took the funds but held the payment. Previously, I went through being on the phone with them for two hours to get this resolved and I found out that the company they use FINCITY had flagged me for risk because the amount was larger than my usual habits. It turned out that they needed to manually have someone verify that I was the owner of the external bank account the payment came from in order to release the hold. This resulted in Capital One having to do a three-way call with my external bank and it got solved. It took me going through several customer service reps on Capital One to finally find somebody who knew what to do because the other staff was only trained on fincity (which is powered by AI.)

This year, I paid a large amount on my credit card through my Capital One bank. And they did it again and told me that I was flagged for making a larger payment than what I usually pay. In this case I’m trying to pay off debt so I will continue to make larger payments over the next few months. I asked them is there a way to verify the process like last year, especially because I paid from the Bank side of their company. The customer service rep was so rude and refused to essentially help me and also transfer me to the necessary department to fix it or do the three-way call. I tried calling on the bank side and the bank said that they do do these calls for verification, but the calls need to be initiated on the credit card side so now I’m going back back-and-forth trying to get a customer service rep willing to do the account verification so that the payment isn’t held for up to a month. When I spoke on the Bank side, they said that this has been a frequent problem that they’ve heard from other customers. The money has already left my account and the payment posted days ago, but they will not release the funds to update the credit which is connected to my thirdparty finance tracker. So instead of that balance reading correctly for me to hit my payoff goal, it remains incorrect and messes up my timeline in this thirdparty app.

Has anybody else been dealing with this being a Capital One credit card member? I’ve seen that can hold payments for up to a month. There used to be a manual options in the app where you can verify quicker, but bc it’s the same company that option wasn’t available to me.

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Best Chase business card to pair with the Sapphire Reserve? About $20-30k/month in spend

Hey all, I'm restarting my business and trying to figure out the best way to rack up Chase ultimate reward points. I have the Sapphire Reserve now. Back in the day I paired it with a Freedom card, which worked great: 1.5x on everything, and the 50% bonus when redeeming for travel through the Reserve. It looks like a lot has changed since then.

I'm planning to add a Chase business card. What's the best combo today? Mostly I'm trying to figure out:

  • Which business card makes the most sense with the Reserve? Which of the Ink Business cards? Or would a Freedom card be better?
  • Is there still a good way to boost points on everyday spend?

I'm expecting about $20k-$30k a month in business spend (mainly for cost of goods being sold). So it generates a nice churn. I've read through some of the threads, but they're kind of all over the place. Any straightforward recommendations would be super helpful! Thanks!

Help Needed / Question Missing Credit Card refund

Yesterday (Friday) I returned something to Walmart for around 38$, I bought other things as well so after the return the transaction was only around 13$. I saw the pending refund on my banking app and it said the rest pending was only around 13$ which added up
To the other things I bought. Today I looked at my banking app and the pending refund for the 38$ was missing and the pending amount went back to the original as if I never got a refund
Will it sort out in a few days?

Discussion / Conversation Anyone in Massachusetts able to get accepted for the Truist Business Cash Rewards Credit Card even though their footprint is outside of MA?

Was wondering... for business credit cards (as opposed to personal checking account), what have you noticed for out of region applications?

It's $300 in bonus rewards after you spend $3,000 in the first 90 days

Which is not great

But for my low to medium ish spending/just looking for easy cash bonuses, I can actually hit that bonus organically

Though there are better easy options like US bank, PNC 400 bonus card, and even a bofa + rakuten personal credit card combined bonus

So I'll probably only go for it after burning through the above options

But first can I even apply for it in MA?

Discussion / Conversation Business Capital One Spark 1.5% Cash Select owners- what situation was it worth it for you to apply for this biz card even though it reports to your personal credit/take up a 5/24 slot?

Won't be refinancing mortgage anytime soon in the current climate I imagine

It is 750 bucks though and I did burn through the chase business cards

Dunno I think... out of disgust that they report to personal credit I would avoid it unless I had literally burned through every other business credit card I'm considering?

How bad is it in general for it to report to your personal credit or do the effects drop off quickly?

Help Needed / Question Is the penfed platinum card worth it?

In my situation atleast I'm looking for a card that fits specific categories. Basically a card that covers gas, groceries (mostly walmart/sams club) and restaurants, I saw the penfed platinum and thought it would be a good fit since it covers exactly those

But wanted to ask if anyone has had any experience in this exact card or any recommendations for another card. Thank you

Discussion / Conversation I tried to link my bank account to pay my PayPal MasterCard and this shows up ...

"We work with MasterCard Data Connect to help us verify your bank account and prevent fraud. We'll also periodically check your balance to see if there's enough money to cover transactions. You can remove these permissions anytime in your settings."

I have never seen that anywhere before. That is a real invasion of privacy.

Help Needed / Question [Los Angles,CA Med Spa] Forced to pay $563.75 in hidden fees using VISA after being promised my $1,400 credit covered it. Options?

• Upvotes

Hey guys, I really need some quick advice on a terrible experience I just had at a med spa in LA.

To give you some background, I made it super clear to the rep before booking that I only wanted to use my $1,400 account credit and absolutely could not spend any extra cash. She explicitly promised me everything would be completely covered. I actually have the exact text confirmation and the whole chat history where she confirmed my credit and broke down the pricing as exactly $890 + $650.

But once I got there, things went south. They basically isolated me, switched the service I booked to a totally different procedure, and completely kept me in the dark about the price changing.

The real shock came after it was over. They handed me a piece of paper with handwritten math demanding an extra $563.75. Suddenly they were tacking on a random $100/hour "nurse fee" and a 2.5% card surcharge that they never brought up beforehand. By this point, it was late, I was exhausted, and I was really far from home. The rep cornered me and kept pressuring me for over 10 minutes straight. I was so stressed out and confused that I just swiped my card so I could get out of there safely.

I have a couple of questions for anyone who has dealt with this:

  1. What do you think my chances are of winning a credit card chargeback for unauthorized charges? I have black-and-white text proof of the price we agreed on, but I'm worried because I did technically swipe the card myself under duress.
  2. Should I try reaching out to the medical director first to demand a refund using my text evidence, or should I just bypass them completely and file reports with the California Medical Board and the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA)?

Card Recommendation Request (Template Used) Just got approved for Fidelity rewards card and not long after, just got off waitlist for Robinhood Gold. Apply for robinhood gold?

Current cards: (list cards, limits, opening date)

Chase Freedom Unlimited, $5900, 08/23

Chase Sapphire Preferred, $11300, 02/24

Fidelity Rewards, $500 (lol), 10/16/26

Discover Credit Card (forgot what kind, haven't used it in a while, can't check because discover portal currently transitioning to capital one), $3800, 07/22

FICO Score: 760+

Oldest account age: 5 years 9 months

Chase 5/24 status: 1/24

Income: $60000

Open to Business Cards: No

What's the purpose of your next card? Spending points for investing. Don't really want to min-max rewards with points now.

So I just got approved for a Fidelity Rewards credit card with a measly $500 limit. Literally same day, just got off the waitlist for the Robinhood Gold card. Should I still apply for the robinhood gold? If so, should I wait a few days before applying cause just having one hard pull on credit report very recently would lower chances of getting approved?

I was just transferring my roth ira and able account to Fidelity and even opened a CMA with them to put my cash in. I was planning to downgrade the sapphire to one without a AF cause of the nerfs to point redemptions, and just focus on a general use card where the points can be used on investments.

Don't have much history with robinhood, and only opened an account for the robinhood gold waitlist.

So far, I'm leaning towards staying with fidelity with the only drawbacks being the low credit limit and 2% return vs the robinhood 3%, but there's no guarantee the robinhood gold will have a higher limit.

I don't plan to apply for anything else in a while so I don't really care about credit score for now.
