I purchased a Lilly white from Josh’s frogs , and it was dying as soon as I opened the box, and was dead by the next morning. Josh’s frogs is telling me that it’s my fault and that they cannot give a refund. I didn’t even have the gecko 10 hours yet it’s my fault? I genuinely do not know what to do, I paid $250 for her
ime, its best to always record a box opening of live animals. this way theres no dispute if something happened during transit, and condition can be noted upon arrival. i havent ordered from josh's frogs, but maybe you can try contacting your bank for a charge back? there is typically a live guarantee time period. contact your bank asap, but why did they deny it in the first place? did it sit for a long period of time outside or anything?
I met the ups driver at the truck and immediately unboxed the gecko. I am currently trying to dispute the charge as a last ditch effort. They tried to say that it was because I needed UVB, but I had the gecko for just a few hours so that is obviously not what happened. I’m just so devastated
UPS is absolutely not the shipping service you should be using for live animals. Their trucks can get up to 120 degrees or more in the summer, even in milder weather like now, the sun can heat up that brown truck to way over cresty limit. If you want an animal to survive shipping, you either do expensive next-day FedEx, or USPS Priority (or better). USPS is the gold standard for shipping live animals, they have departments dedicated to it, and they will hold it in their air-conditioned office for you to pick up.
I dont think they offer a choice on shipping. From my experience (again not with JF), shipping is preset or prearranged with the buyer, with the choices as either FedEx or USPS. UPS should have never even been an option from the seller, as they should know better. Always better to also insure your packages and build that into the shipping price, for reasons like this.
Definitely start the dispute, and honestly I would keep arguing with them. UVB is great, but it isnt critical, and it isnt even an instant cure. When you go through your bank, make sure to have times/any proof of delivery you have and the times any correspondence with JF happened. Even if it was an error on UPS's fault, thats still on them to fix while refunding you. Thats what shipping insurance is for.
The breeder should have sent to the store and you pick it up like FedEx store where ac is on and it doesnt have to gp on the truck. He should know better.
UVB?! As if it got MBD in 24 hours WTF?! That is some bull.
Newer best practices suggest that having UVB light is good (I use it), but still they can thrive without and it take a long time to have issues even with no calcium.
Not that I’m aware of. And yes I would have been adding uvb once I put it in the permanent enclosure but i always quarantine for the first couple of weeks for this very reason. I usually just give d3 while observing them.
I would also request to speak directly to Josh if he’s still a part of his business. I’ve only purchased plants from him so I cannot vouch for the health of his reptiles.
As previously stated though, a lack of UVB (lighting) is a ridiculous excuse for a crestie death. They get Vit D primarily through diet.
There's literally nothing that could kill her that quickly that is your fault. She must've died in transit.
Record all of your communications with them. If they still refuse, take a screenshot of the guarantee and terms and conditions and send your bank the agreement and the proof(chat logs, emails, etc.) that you attempted to have a refund from the business and could not get one
That gecko was unwell. It was already clearly underfed and had problems. Contact at least 5–6 major breeders and explain EVERYTHING that happened, including every detail, and attach the photos. Also contact Lil Monster, who is very knowledgeable, and forward all the responses you receive to the person who sold you the gecko.
Anyway, I bought a gecko from Korea once, and it suddenly died at the breeder’s facility for no apparent reason. They refunded me 100% of the money I had spent. The person who sold you this gecko is incompetent, and I’m sorry to say that.
I don't know if you've been able to resolve this horrible situation Josh's Frogs caused for you. This just makes another awful story I've heard about them recently. I'm sharing this on Insta in hopes that some of my mutuals can help. I'm so sorry this happened to you! Shame on Josh's Frogs.
I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. Please keep us updated. I’ve heard iffy things about them a lot lately, and now after this post I’m not going to order the frog I was planning to order. They’re ridiculous.
This is what she looked like. There was clearly something wrong with her out of the gate. No one will listen. I just hope that my bank can get the money back.
That is a picture of a crestie with MBD & malnutrition which cannot happen during shipping. Therefore it happened while in the custody of Josh’s if you only had her for 10 hrs. There is no other explanation. They owe you a full refund and an apology. Shame on them not only for letting any animal get in this condition but also for selling it. Makes me wonder if they actually even saw this animal or if they contracted with some breeder somewhere for her and never saw her prior to shipping. That’s the only thing that makes any sense at all. They’re listening to the breeder and not to you? Breeder providing pics of a different animal to them? Or they’re outright lying & just no longer care about the animals they’re raising, selling and their reputation. Sad.
The package didn’t sit at all, I met them at the truck. They wouldn’t ship FedEx, they did UPS, and I didn’t find an option to hold at a facility. The gecko was dying when I opened the box. I don’t use UVB because I prefer to supplement d3 once a week and Pangea has all the vitamins, so I can control the amount they are getting. I have a digital thermometer and hygrometer that show that the conditions were perfect, and the animal was already dying and died within ten hours, which would have literally been impossible even if my enclosure was wrong, but I have provided all the proof that it was good and they just refuse to fix it. It also had a major kink in the tail that I was not made aware of and its back was crooked.
Definitely not. Every time I’ve ever gotten a crested out of shipping container it has been bouncing and hopping around and this little one just laid there. So small as well, it was 4 months old and basically hatchling size
Animals should not be allowed to be shipped in boxes. It causes them severe stress and needs to be made illegal. Josh's frogs needs to be held accountable for this.
