Law, Rights & Society Delhi Police has spent ₹15.66 crore on Al-linked CCTV with no law and no SOP behind it.

Protest is a right. Surveillance without limits is digital authoritarianism.

Delhi Police has spent ₹ 15.66 crore on Al-linked CCTV with no law and no SOP behind it. That means protesters get tracked and innocent people get misidentified. Of the 3,000 people these cameras "identified," 20 were already in jail.

The Rs 15.7-crore tender for the installation of CCTV cameras with facial recognition capabilities. The tender, part of a modernization initiative, specifies 338 cameras for Central and New Delhi. Concerns have been raised regarding the procurement process and surveillance safeguards. Installation is expected to commence in December 2026 or January 2027.

The next time a woman in Delhi feels unsafe, all she has to do is pull out a flag and shout inqalaab jindabaad, a full team of Delhi police will show up immediately.

No no. They don't care about flag. The girl needs to ask resignation of someone in BJP. The police will immediately take her to a safe place where no one can find hurt her

These recent protests told a unique story in themselves.

They never use these techniques to catch the culprits, molesters, even rapists, etc.

And then, the anti-social elements were supported and shielded by them.

Now connect the dots. Why does crime happen in the national capital? It’s because of the incompetent and compromised police.

Surely the cameras will be reused to ensure the general safety and wellbeing of the public, especially women. Right????

Nope they did have a very clear SOP :

"Impose patriarchy"

in the times of record devalued currency, broken stock market, 0 global investors, joblessness and layoffs

Wheres the doubt?

How's this related to patriarchy?

Patriarchy needs a hand or two

Your safety is not as important as keeping power in their own hands.

Not just CCTV but I noticed a lot of cops with bodycams + they had official police photographers filming and photographing everything, they had cameras with zoom lenses up on the roofs of buildings and drones as well. So the amount of facial recognition data they've collected is insane.

Really great that Delhi police is modernising to deal with the next gen of criminals.

Problem is who owns this data? What are the rules around it? It's not an easy masterstroke their are inherent risks.
