anyone using opensource posture tracking at home without handing data to amazon?
my pt clinic got a demo of one of those smart mirror rehab systems. the motion tracking actually helps when patients are doing their exercises wrong at home. the issue is everything goes to some third party cloud, the consent form is five pages of vague stuff, and nobody knows who ends up owning the movement data. feels like insurance companies will be buying gait datasets to deny claims before long.
spent last weekend messing around with mediapipe on a spare raspberry pi. it tracks posture okay for basic squats and shoulder work. not clinical grade but it can catch someone whose lumbar flexion starts collapsing at rep six instead of waiting for their next appointment.
the part that bothers me is how quickly people accept always-on cameras in their living room just because the device claims to help. same as the pet trackers. convenient until you look at what else gets logged.
curious if anyone runs local pose estimation for fitness or rehab and what hardware they're using. looking for something i could suggest to patients that doesn't need a corporate account or phone app to work.

No idea, but as someone who cares about their pts data more than they do sometimes, upvote for attention. Come on people who’s got the praxis for this?

the pi was a lucky garage find, been sitting in a box since before the chip shortage
consent forms are a whole thing. worked at a clinic where they'd slip in arbitration clauses in 4pt font. now i read every line twice before signing anything for the kids
if you do grab one, the power draw is almost nothing compared to the deck. runs cool enough to leave in the case

It seems like the problem here is to get something approved for therapeutic use would require an immense amount of work to test and review poses and set up a system for comparison against a medically approved data set.
The amount of work required to get that to an acceptable state for actual therapeutic use would be enormous. Now if that already existing data were made public, that would be a much easier situation.

Cerebral palsy programmer here who attempted to use mediapipe to track forward and side lean when walking. It worked okay from close up but couldn't make it work across the room. Maybe I'll dig those files back up because now I have AI to help me out with the missing things (I know it's a thorny topic, but I've successfully used AI to explain/finally understand other algorithms that I partially understood and/or had a weird bug in my implementation)
