This was extremely common place in the 70s and 80s, and plenty of cars, trucks, busses etc run on compressed natural gas. I don't know what fuel is in the thrusters, but it's not really that dangerous. I work in the compressed natural gas sphere, have a fleet of trucks that have cannisters just like these.
