General Feedback/Getting Started Q&A Thread
This thread is for questions that are typically not permitted elsewhere on /r/DIY. Topics can include where you can purchase a product, what a product is called, how to get started on a project, a project recommendation, questions about the design or aesthetics of your project or miscellaneous questions in between.
This is a judgement-free zone. We all had to start somewhere. Be civil.
A new thread gets created every week.

Just moved into a place where every single wall is painted the same sad beige, I need to break it up but I’m paralyzed by all the color choices. How do you even start narrowing it down without wanting to redo the whole room three weeks later

Look at pictures of rooms. Lots of them. Keep the ones that you like in a file folder or notebook. After collecting pictures of decorated rooms for a couple of months, you will have some favorites. Use those colors.
Look at the colors of things you already own. If you have some furniture, pillows, artwork, or decorative items that you like, you will want to coordinate some of those colors in your new decor.
If all else fails, you can hire an interior decorator. Be aware, though, that you might not like the result. There are some who really should be called "inferior desecrators".

if anyones lurking and not sure where to start, just pick the smallest annoying thing in your house and fix that first. scope creep kills motivation on first projects more than anything else
