Question/Advice My first failure

Drive disconnected mid use so I restarted the pc and now it's clicking. Its a 12TB WD Ultrastar DC HC520 I've had for like 2 years now. Its full too. I don't mind buying another harddrive but I'm praying nothing is lost and it's all recoverable. What are the chances it's not before the tears start flowing. And before people say "you should've kept back ups". This was the backup, OF THE BACKUP. Assuming this is a mechanical / head failure. What are the chances my data is
gone. Is it more than likely that my 12 TB are untouched

2 years? RMA that thing and pray they dont try to give you the money option and actually replace it.

Do you mind PMing me or elaborating here this? How would I go about this? I got it from Amazon 2 years ago so I'm sure the return window has closed and because it's a used Enterprise drive I doubt there's warranty on it. This was the exact listing I bought from. https://a.co/d/01AGA8yY

yeah the money option is such a slap in the face when you actually need a replacement

If this is the backup of the backup then you should have two other copies of all the data: working data>backup of working data>backup of the backup. So why are you worried about data loss?

Because this is the solid organized backup. All other back ups are spread in the 40+ other terabytes located SOMEWHERE in my room. All on different drives ssds.

You keep using that word, “backups”.
I do not think it means what you think it means.

For the future, if you have the capacity, exact replication is the best strategy. For example, my storage is a two-disk raid1 that gets a block-level copy to the backup. Though RAID is not a backup, it still gives me three copies of the data with automatic bitrot repair and other data integrity benefits.

So separate drives with the same exact contents as the other? It makes sense for sure but I wish I had the money to be able to use multiple drives for the same reason.

Yep, it's as simple as
rsync -avP <source> <backup>.The whole point of ZFS and Btrfs is being able to combine multiple drives into one filesystem. btrfs is extremely flexible: mismatched disks, shrinking/growing a storage pool, etc.
With either, you can do incremental block-level backups locally or over ssh. Much more efficient than rsync and guarantees an exact copy of the filesystem. They also have data integrity benefits like snapshots, checksumming, and automatic bitrot repair.
