Existential FOMO about the future.
I find myself getting so mad at the fact that I won’t be here to see how society advances technologically, economically etc. Like wdym I can’t witness cars flying around through cities or. Like I wanna be around when jet suits become something so normal. Imagine flying around like Iron Man or being around when Interplanetary travel is accessible to the public.

Funny thing is, we’re already living in a future that people 100 years ago could only dream of.
We carry entire libraries in our pockets, talk to people across the planet instantly, and have AI answering our questions.
Yet somehow, it all feels ordinary.
Makes me wonder if flying cars would eventually feel just as normal.
Maybe the real magic isn’t in the future we’re missing, but in how extraordinary the present already is.

Chill, Don't worry!! people of that era(people like you)will still miss something that they don't have.

Why not just learn about history? Or watch some science documentaries? Then you will realise how simple things used to be and that we ARE living in the future and there is tons of crazy things happening right now! 100 years ago the plane had only just been invented and now we have space ships! You used to have tj be rich to fly but now you can fly anywhere in the world and that doesn't amaze you? If you were in the future with flying jet suits being the norm you wouldn't appreciate it if you don't appreciate today's current technology.

I think about this all the time. One reason I’ll hang in there. I recently read an article about solar systems with stars that give off a less damaging, longer lasting light than our sun. Scientists have become very optimistic there are Super-planets where life would be much more bountiful and comfortable than that on earth. Imagine living in a time where other planets are populated by living creatures and perhaps some contact with them.

With pattern recognition it seems like we will soon go through another event like what happened when the printing press came out. So sit down and injoy the clown show thats in the process right now

Ai music seems lk dope, I’ve been impressed what they can already come up with given its early stages.

Always sounds completely soulless and devoid of intent to me... y'know because it wasn't made by a living creature. Also not as technically skilled in most cases.

The soullessness may be because a lot of the songs coming out now are from tech guys making music. Once the real artists get into it I imagine it might take off. Living is relative, have you seen some of the zombies out there these days?

Real artists are the ones making music? AI slop will lower the quality of any art, since AI can't create, but just do a lazy scrape and copy/paste.

Real artists in combination with ai. Also there are many artists that are immensely talented but don’t have access to recording studios, bands, producers etc and ai can fill in their gaps so we might see some new stuff emerging like how electronic music changed the landscape when it came out enabling artists to create with merely a laptop.

I mean, in my experience, the zombie-like people are the ones latching onto AI because they lack (or refuse to acknowledge) some own light behind their eyes to drive them through life. They'd rather delegate their thinking and creative process to a machine that doesn't think or create, but rather generates based on training data and the prompt it's given. I also don't think pointing them out is going to make the AI's output look good.
"Once the real artists get into it" is kind of an oxymoron. I have quite a few musician friends and they all actually... enjoy the process of making music, it's literally the entire reason they do it. I've not heard an AI song that sounded even as technically proficient as a good human artist. Really, the use I can see is because it's fast and takes no musical skill, so it would be great for someone trying to make money off of music that's catchy but of questionable quality (a pop star, for example) or someone who's not a musician but insists on making music anyway, but doesn't want to practice making music and get good at making music because they're not a musician. I think that's mostly who uses it anyway.

Isn’t this the same as putting down dj’s and electronic music? People claimed that wasn’t good and maybe it wasn’t to start but with time it’s become a genre. Even the electric guitar once held a stigma since it wasn’t the classical wind and string instrument…

I don't see how that's accurately comparable. People who make electronic music are directly making music with their creativity and skill, people who DJ are live remixing and often putting on a show with their personality and visual style. They also have to have good taste in music for their audience and know how music interacts so they can mix tracks together and such.
People who use gen AI to make music are typing words into a thing and then listening to the result, and re-prompting to get a slightly different result... then they'd maybe do their own post-processing on the output. The skill involved is wrangling the AI to get it the way you want it to sound and then polishing the output, not... directly and actually making music. I guess it's closer to DJing but DJs are well-loved because of how they creativity pick and mix together beloved, popular songs. Someone doing AI music would completely lack this cultural clout element.
I think if you need some simple background music for a project it's probably fine. But also, royalty-free music you can use without copyright issue has existed for decades, and a lot of it is pretty good... I would recommend anyone with a song in their heart who wants to get it out to learn to sing or play at least a simple instrument, they'd be much happier doing it themselves even if they suck... the point is to get the song out and not just make machine-produced but fully-formed copy of it that you can listen to, one that doesn't even have your own heart and soul put into it.

Ai is just a tool. As you stated the process is as complex as the user invests the time and creativity for. One artist will not put out the same type of song as a different artist might. It’s true the process of creating the music is ENTIRELY different, words and prompts and reiterating but personally I like the idea that words could transform into music. Sure now there’s some ai slop songs coming out but people will figure out ways to tighten that up. How about an app that can create an entire soundtrack by scraping your own personal digital diary.. for example. Take you back through the years of your own life. For a long time I’ve been wondering why am I listening to other people’s thoughts? Stories about other people’s relationships and experiences. Sometimes it’s cool, but I think it’d be cool to listen to only my own story sometimes too and that seems feasible with ai music.

I mean you are life itself, you are the organisms at the beginning of time and you are the scientist developing flying cars. And you are the drunk guy crashing a flying car. There's nothing to miss because there's nothing that is outside of you, you are it all. Unless you are like 90 years old you will most likely experience these things in your current life if you look at technological advancements.

I really hope that I can witness the manned mars landing (cmon Elon, do something)

If you're putting your faith in Elon you're so lost it's not even funny.

Well, I don't see anyone else even trying so 🤷♂️. It's either space x or maybe china if they suddenly aim for it

I'm struggling to see how you can look at the current world and the way it's run (and the types of people who are in charge) and think those things are going to happen. Sure, maybe if we get some different leadership in there and shift the entire focus of the tech industry and government...
