Things antis say Steam NextFest discourse is full of Anti-AI folks

Yeah, I've had enough with the Antis bitching about it being on NextFest, it sounds like gatekeeping because, it is.

How? Look up "Steam NextFest" on YouTube and count how many videos bring up AI, yeah, it's embarrassing how this just exists now, but oh well.

At least some do make points (like the low-effort ones and stuff), but still, it's basically a digital trade show, let's not be too harsh here. (I just want to post it here because, yeah, I'm honestly sick of the discourse)

Defending AI Problems with the Argument AI Art Is Theft

Thumbnail

I think most of the moral outrage AI art gets has to do with the claim that it’s theft, but that argument only works if we treat learning differently between machines and humans.

In education, it is customary to use material to which you don’t have permission and you didn’t pay for. I’ve worked in education for 20 years. I’ve encountered no impediment in that time. Yet when it comes to AI, someone conjures up a new rule that you must have permission and you must pay for it. These restrictions are applied only to AI. And these restrictions are the basis for the claim of “theft” where there wasn’t one before.

Another point to consider is from the learning/training side. I am less familiar with art than with writing, but the same rules apply. I have read thousands of books in my lifetime. I’m sure much of what I write I encountered first elsewhere. Influences are normal and probably unavoidable. Yet AI is not supposed to have access to what we do or operate in the same way of choosing within the parameters of its training.

These special restrictions are the only way to claim AI art is theft, and it’s an easy fix: stop allowing people who don’t like it to set the rules to exclude it.

Defending AI Permeantly banned from a work related sub due to AI association.

I was permanently banned and muted from a teaching subreddit because of my association to AI.

This is ridiculous.

I was asking for genuine advice and the post was instantly removed. When I DMs to ask why they linked to an old post of mine and said "you are a software developer". Some computer science teachers tend to have a side hustle due to teaching not paying enough compared to the industry. So yes, i teach and develop software.

I asked what rule was broken and I was permanently muted. I did not break a single rule for the subreddit, there is no way to appeal it, and I cannot get any advice for my teaching job that I needed genuine advice for.

I can't believe how self-righteous people think they are. These moderators on a Reddit power trip are probably the same people that bully kids. Jee guys, I wonder why there is a teacher shortage in my country . What is the Gestapo is this.

Turns out people don't care and will be swayed if ypu make something pretty/cute/hot enough

Defending AI Why do most ANTI even care if Create == AI in Art and Vibecoding != Create in Coding?

This is kind of the dilemma Pro-AI always have in many context situation. Like if you are creating an Art using AI, most ANTI always assume you use AI, and thus what happened? You get harassed, accused, witch-hunted. And that is only in Art subject.

The same goes for Coding subject but this time, most ANTI think that vibecoding is not the same as you create, where in fact YOU actually create it even with using AI.

Think about it in coding situation, you create a tool using AI (a unique tool pure from your own idea) and when you publish it and you said "I create a tool to help people". What happens? You get accused of vibecoding, people don't believe you create it via skill (typing manually), you get harassed because you didn't label your tool AI created.

Both of these cases lead to one conclusion, YOU STILL CREATE AI or NOT. So why does it matter for ANTI to even argue if you create an art via hand drawing or AI? Why does it matter for ANTI to argue if the program or tool WORKS flawlessly without bugs even if it is vibecoded? YOU STILL CREATE. Even better if it contributes society, so is it a crime now for vibecoding? Is it a crime now to make art via AI?

Has anyone ever felt the same situation above?

Other AI has allowed me to bring to life ideas which I had for years... but now I have a problem :)

Don't know if this is the right location to post, and still not sure if I am doing the right thing writing this, but here it goes.

I am a software engineer by trade, with more than 15 years of experience. My views on AI are... complex. But AI allowed me to bring my ideas to life. Ideas which I had for many years, long before AI was even a thing. It helped me bridge the knowledge gap I have and speed up development a lot. Naturally, I open-sourced everything. (A small side note, I have an open source project which is older than the AI craze, and I always wanted to contribute to the open-source community)

I started with a Text-to-Diagram engine (PlanUML and Mermaid alternative, for those who know such things) which I wanted to build for many years, but never had the time or knowledge to make it how I wanted too.

I build my own authoring and publishing software suite (I am trying to become a published author) since everything out there was incomplete and expensive. And now more than 100 aspiring authors are using my application to help them draft their stories. (Small note: For writing I only use AI for research and grammar correction, but the text is all mine and the application does not incorporate LLMs). It would have taken me years to get this out, but AI helped me deliver the first version in just a few months.

I also made my own Git client, just for fun, and it rocks.

I am working on a game, an idea which I started, scrapped, restarted several times, with the first line of code actually being about 17 years old. I never managed to bring my vision to life, but now thanks to AI I feel that I can bring it to life exactly as I envision it, since if I don't know how to make something, AI does.

Plus, many other small tools that I needed.

But I also "developed" (pun intended) a small problem. I see so many other things I could make, even if just for me. 4 of the 8 apps that I have opened right now are my own which ai developed with the help of AI. And in many cases, even if I don't have something I need... I can either build a prototype in a day, or find someone who already did.

Exciting times. A bit scary as well, but exciting nonetheless.
