Aqib Talib destroys Ryan Fitzpatrick in defense of Bo Nix

u/MultiPass21 1d ago
It’s great to see our players, current and former, rallying around their QB.
It’s weird that I read a comment today on our sub from a lad who wants Bo to play poorly the remainder of the year so that’s his 5th year option will be cheaper to pick up.
What is you doin, baby girl?

Thats the same type of dude who wants to make less money so his taxes are cheaper. Some people would cut off their legs so that they can save money on buying pants. It's crazy.

Lol. 4-2 after playing 5 of the best teams in the NFL. And, some nephew wants us to tank? Because Fitzpatrick, a journeyman QB who couldn't even stick with the Bills when they were an absolute dumpster fire of a franchise, talks some.post game shit?
Alex smith was 4x the QB Fitz ever was and Smith was 2x the game manger that Bo played as. Jfc.
There are real concerns for this offense and for Bo. He doesn't seem healthy and his confidence does seem jarred. He's still had more success as an NFL QB than Fitz ever had and is only year 3 though.
3
u/MileHiSalute 1d ago
Hey now, Fitzpatrick has a six pick game to his name, Bo hasn’t even come close to that
7
u/thunder_cats1 Demaryius Thomas 1d ago
Fitz has more picks than starts in the NFL.
He moved around to bad teams could tank for picks, which kept him in the league for 14 years.
That's a disgrace to the QB position.

As bad as Bo has been this was my exact reaction to Fitz’s comments
Can’t believe we let Fitz and Dan Orlovsky critique NFL players in any kind of disrespectful way, if Tom Brady wants to say Bo is an insult to the position then fine I’ll accept that. But Bo did more in one game against the bills than Fitz did his entire career

The weird thing is bo played very well the first half. He didn't play well the 2nd half. I know there's been talk about his play this year, but he's hardly the first quarterback to have one good and one bad half. There were probably multiple quarterbacks who did that last week. Bo does it himself most weeks, just the inverse with the 2nd half being the good one.

u/separeaude DT 1d ago
Ad hominem is a personal attack that’s inappropriate when we’re talking arguments not based upon personal qualifications. What Fitzpatrick did was “I was an NFL QB for years so I can say what I see is disrespectful…”
In which case his qualifications are absolutely up for debate.

u/rossta410r Shannon Sharpe 1d ago

10
u/onewonyuan 1d ago
By that logic, zero people in this sub are allowed to critique and/or have opinions on the NFL, since we’re not NFL players ourselves. That’s utterly nonsensical.
34
u/cuu8 1d ago
I think anyone is allowed to critique, we all know Bo needs it right now, but to proclaim that Bo is disrespectful to the QB position is just wrong, especially coming from Ryan Fitzpatrick

I do think this is probably a good difference for a player thinks about the qb position. fitzpatrick was a gunslinger who threw a ton of picks and made a ton of mistakes as talib points out always on bad teams. its kind of like last night sam darnold had a much better statline, but his two picks probably cost his team the game. Bo has to play way better though. its been really bad this year.
60
u/tomfoolist CJ 1d ago
Fitz would have preferred 300 yards and 3 turnovers in a loss. "Disrespectful to the position" is such hyperbolic garbage from a guy who lost a lot more than he won
33
u/natziel 1d ago
Yeah you know who knows ball & who doesn't depending on which quarterback people are complaining about this game. I remember when people were on here begging for Fitzmagic to be our next QB when he was available.
In other news, I rewatched the game on all-22 and Bo did flub a few plays, but no one is giving Seahawks defense enough credit. Like, everyone is shitting on Bo, but why is no one pointing out how good the Seahawks defense is?
Several plays had a ball blocked on line of scrimmage or defenders just flat outplayed the WRs. That one ball to Waddle should’ve been a PI.
I’m more worried about the trend than one game. He has been playing scared.
6
u/Pazo_Paxo 1d ago
Its been a common thread this season that people don’t seem to be able to comprehend that Bo is struggling and we’ve been playing against top tier defences who not only exaggerate Bo’s issues but shut down other areas of our offence.
Two things can be true: Bo has the yips and clearly needs to work on certain habits and is also having to play against top tier defences in a brutal slog with few mini byes. But everyone would rather absolve Nix and the offence of all responsibility or pin it solely on Nix.

I got torn to shreds saying the same thing in the nfl sub thread yesterday. Bo has already had a better career than fitz. He can criticize his play, but you can’t say he’s disrespected the position when you weren’t shit

u/CheapParking2944 1d ago
That's fair. Criticism is completely justified imo but the "disrespected the position" piece when Fitz was just chaotic and unreliable is a bit rich.
8
u/LameSignIn 1d ago
Just listening to them during the game last night was to much. I don't know how many times they said Nix to to take care of the ball while ignoring what we were doing game plan wise.
Yes we all can agree it was bad play. Let's not include the penalties, dropped passes and the horrible run game. Feels like that injury is really in Nix head just by how he ran when he did.

u/Bright_Efficiency_87 13h ago
This is the right take. It’s not the criticism that makes no sense, it’s this self righteous attitude that fitz has when he was a mockery at the position his entire career. Literally named fitztragic because he blew games
21
u/VorpalBlade- 1d ago
I was actually shocked at the media dog pile on Bo. It’s like the script writers needed something to latch onto. Shit talking bo for playing careful and not getting turnovers? Jackass Darnld had two terrible interceptions and got sacked 6 times and LOST.
Who’s the disgrace here now? Bo did his job and didn’t fuck up and we won. If he had thrown two bad interceptions well then that would have been disrespectful to the defense who was balling out but he didn’t and he managed the game to a win.
I’m sure he’s still not 100% after his injury and is working through it. You think Sean P is going to tell everyone gee hey Bo is a little ginger in his ankle still so take it easy on him haha. SP is a master of deception guys.
And we’re 4-2 after a gauntlet and now we have some steam running down hill. And we have injured players that will come back and have gotten some experience for replacements and younger guys thereby strengthening our team.
This whole shit storm over Bo smells like Thursday (worst day) night football manufactured drama to me.

He threw more TDs than Nix one time.
He threw greater than or equal INTs to Nix 8 times.
Hes 28 games under .500. Never won a playoff game and he choked in the biggest moments.
He had 13 4th quarter comebacks and 18 game winning drives in his entire 17 year career
Nix has 11 fourth quarter comebacks and 13 game winning dives in 2 years and 6 games.

I mean, Fitz was not wrong, but I think his comments were a bit over the top. It's been driving me nuts reading all the comments supporting him and nothing really laying into him for being as ass as he was. Sure he had his moments, but overall he was a terrible QB. There is a reason he played for half the league - because he was a great backup, terrible starter. If he was a good starter, teams would have kept him around. Talib probably could have said this more eloquently rather than just repeating "you suck", but fucking THANK YOU for saying exactly what I was thinking when I heard Fitz going off last night 🙄👏👏👏

I'm okay with Fitzpatrick having his opinions and trying to generate buzz, but hot damn that might've been too explosive a commentary. You can't say a QB's play is disrespectful to the game and then try to throw in a caveat of he might be injured. Did he say the same thing about Drake Maye during his slump? Bro, you played with Tua and understand what injuries can do to a person physically and mentally. Absolutely not giving Bo an excuse, of course. He needs to heal up if injured and regain his aggression. I need the "I fear no one!" Bo back...

Nix's average pass went 3.0 yards downfield Thursday, a stunningly low number. His furthest completion downfield was 8 yards, and he's averaging 4.9 air yards per attempt. That's not just the lowest in the NFL; it's the lowest by any player through six games in the last 20 years.
The Broncos finished with a measly 168 yards, their fewest in a win since Week 1, 1983 -- John Elway's first start. Denver is currently 31st in yards per game and 32nd in yards per play this season but has a 4-2 record after Thursday's win, a remarkable testament to the defense.
3
u/methtical13 1d ago
So in that case, literally everyone on here needs to sit this out and can't make any criticisms of an NFL players play. There can only be maybe a few dozen people in history that can make a comment on Bo's play by that standard if they needed to not only be a an NFL QB, but an above average one. I love Aquib but he's defending the person, without acknowledging the points Fitzpatrick made that were on most everyone's mind already.

Acknowledging that you can criticize Bo is fine but “disrespectful to the Qb position” is the issue here. It’s just an attempt at getting shock value for a headline and it’s a dumb statement. Especially when Fitzpatrick himself has been more than disrespectful to the position.

I happen to think Bo Nix sucks but completely agree with this if he’s gonna say his play is disrespectful to the quarterback position then he’s going beyond the pale of criticism and effectively slamming/mocking the guy. It’s one thing to have criticism and to point out flaws. It’s another thing to say what Fitzpatrick said. Ryan straight up came for Bo’s throat with that comment, it’s an attack for the sake of relevancy.
Forget the fact that this kid is coming off of a broken ankle 9 months ago and has zero run game to lean on, forget the wins and comebacks and amazing play against Josh Allen. No, Ryan just wants to shit on this kid without considering the fact that he himself has failed where Bo has seen success. No need to call Bo’s play disrespectful because it’s anything but that. He’s out there putting his body on the line and taking more critique than Darnold who literally threw the game away.
Give him time to heal and try is stretch of games agains weaker teams and yall will be eating your words
