Question I cancel Disney+… and come back a month later every time.

When using Disney+, I always repeat the same pattern: I cancel my subscription because I don’t use it often. But a few weeks later, a new show airs, or I suddenly want to watch a particular episode again, so I subscribe again. I tell myself that this time it’s just for that one show, but in the end, I end up browsing around and forget to cancel the subscription. When I see the bill next month, I cancel it again, and the cycle repeats. Now, it’s no longer just a subscription service,it’s become a habit I can’t break. Is anyone else trapped in this cycle?

Nah, I subscribe when it first came out and I've never unsubscribed.  Having any and all Star Wars just one click away is worth it for me.

This. We do the Disney/Hulu/Max. Always something for different members of the family.

Hulu/Disney/Max are the three best, Hulu and Disney for anime and Disney content, Max for AEW and Studio Ghibli

I use that Disney, Hulu, Max bundle, it just sucks that HBO Max isn’t premium with 4K with the bundle.

Yep. And no option for it either. The only way is to sign up for HBO Max separately.

Seems short-sighted on their part, to me. I imagine there are plenty who would gladly pay extra for 4K. But not enough to pay through the nose for HBO Max alone.

Or, if you're like me, you cancelled your HBO subscription for now because of this very thing.

Disney+ and Hulu+ are the two most used streaming apps for me. I could cancel all the other streaming services and be fine with just these two.

I'd say if you just do it for Star Wars, then just buy the star wars... but they come out with a new star wars series at least once a year, and I don't think they sell DVD's of those... >_>

In most instances the shows you want to watch will be there later.

You can let things stack up then pay for a few months and cancel again.

I drop a few services in the summer months because I am outside more then pick them up again as it gets colder. or sometimes not at all.

That’s what I do. Subscribe every year or two for a month or two. Watch what I want and cancel. Also only subscribe when there’s a deal unless I plan to do one month ad-free.

Cancel immediately after the purchase so if you need it next month you can just subscribe again and avoid the charge

I only subscribe if I have a current deal

Maybe learn self control?

Yea this is totally fine. Cancel once you watched everything and resub when you want to watch again

I only sub if there’s a 3 month promo or there’s a new season of a show I want to follow up. I’m being more conservative this time. There’s a james marsden film, daredevil born again season 2 and X-men 97 season 2 I want to watch altogether. Maybe mid august I’ll resub

I tend to sub when they have a Black Friday deal, watch everything I want to watch, then cancel and let some shows build up again so that when the next promo comes around, I have a reason to sub for more than a month. Basically, alternate a year at a time instead of alternating one month at a time.

Unsubscribe, wait until there's a few shows you want to watch, resubscribe and watch all of them in a month. Profit.

I do have Disney via my bank as a perk so not an issue, but with other service when I want them for a short period I resubscribe, the payment hit my bank account and I cancel immediately, got one month to view but not automatically cash take out the next month

Just sign up for a year and forget about it.

No. I keep Disney as the primary and then pay for one other one that rotates.

To stop the cycle, pay for a month then immediately cancel in the same day, then it won’t charge you again and you still have the month to watch what you want.

Honestly I love having Disney+. I got the legacy bundle when it first started and I never left. I did eventually change it to Disney+, Hulu and HboMax because that bundle was better for me and cheaper than what the legacy bundle with ESPN was. Also I use all 3 sites very often watching a show on almost each platform every month. TV is my retreat and down time every day when I relax so I am happy to keep this as a subscription because it helps my mental health tbh. I just count it now into my monthly budget. Plus I pay for without ads which is $10 more and so worth it to me. They have every Disney movie and whenever Im sad I watch OG movies & tv shows I grew up on. Although I wish they would stop increasing the price every few months. Just because they can without loosing people doesnt mean they should! And we should be allowed to share it with at least 3 households if we want.

Just my opinion OP but if you feel the cycle is continuing on and on again. It just means you are enjoying using Disney plus and want to watch the shows. I think its better to just keep it at this point because you are losing money and causing stress for yourself going back and forth. They have rewards and perks for longer time use too that you will miss if you cancel and redescribe again and again.

After rereading and realizing that maybe you just aren't watching it often and want to dave money I agree with buying bundles and doing 1 annual subscription then canceling. Also using deals and promo code times to get your subscription. They always do a black Friday sale. Making sure it doesn't auto renew. You can also buy for one month then cancel immediately the next day and still have the month to watch so you wont forget.

I pay annually because I have everything I need via Disney+

I would advise just writing a list of new stuff you want to watch, when it get to be about a month's worth, subscribe for a month and cancel immediately after paying, so you don't forget.

No one NEEDS to watch something immediately after it comes out + it'll almost always still be there in a few months, particularly if it was recently added. Happy streaming, friend!

I always tell myself “just one show” and somehow it turns into a whole month

1

u/danielfletcher Apr 23 '26

Cancel immediately after subscribing. It stays active for the month that you paid for.

1

u/ClaireM68 Apr 23 '26

I share my account with my aunt and my mom so we have the annual subscription splitted 😅 It's the only platform I use tbh

I buy random months when i feel like i want to buy, i cancel membership after few weeks and then subrcription ends, i may switch to other streamung platform to watch shows and then again few months later i get back to disney+

1

u/Baikeru Apr 23 '26

I do that with Netflix. I resubscribe a couple times a year and catch up on everything they released since last time that I want to watch. As for Disney+, I have the $30 Disney+/Hulu/Max bundle, and there's always something on one of those three I want to watch, so I keep the subscription active.

1

u/Kbennett1965 Apr 25 '26

Not me. I just subscribe and stay subscribed. It's too much of a pain to churn when the services are bundled. I watch enough content between Disney/Hulu/HBO to make it worthwhile just keeping them, plus I get decent discounts between my phone carrier's free Hulu and using an AMEX to pay so the price stays reasonable for all three services.

1

u/SentenceFew7211 Apr 26 '26

It comes with our cell phone deal. I have it, but I forget i have it all the time. Then I'll watch something for a week or so, and then forget I have it again.

u/Razman-87 Apr 27 '26

I canceled my annualsubscription. Just dont watch it enough, to justify paying their price. Monthly is the way to go if anything

I cancel the moment i sign up, no need to remember

u/segascream Apr 21 '26

Once a quarter, cancel everything, then just resub when there's something you want to watch.

There aren't a lot of shows that are worth watching RIGHT NOW anyway, so just wait until there's either an offer or there are multiple shows you're interested in, then either cancel as soon as you subscribe or at least put a reminder in your calender to cancel in time.
