Discussion Headline acts and pre-mixing (no hate)
I'm not hating on any artist for pre-mixing a set and just pressing play when they turn up on stage. I'm not a DJ but I think a pre-mixed set could have more thought and potentially be more technical, without the risk of mistakes live.
Watching Sub Focus's "Circular Sound": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqAvZujP8OQ
In this case, as far as I know, the lights can react with a live mix. But what's everyone's take on this Sub Focus set, is it pre-mixed or not?
Again, no hate if it is - if the lights aren't able to react to a live set, I don't see any issue with music and lights pre-programmed. And as a concert goer, would rather have the best set, than worry about whether it's pre-mixed or not. And apologies if this is a naive question, maybe most festival/stadium DJ sets are pre-mixed these days?

Discussion 1 800 PAIN - LEGO
Something a bit different - maybe someone else will like it as much as I do. It’s got a similar kind of tempo; no pressure to like it, though. Peace.

Discussion Haven’t touched the decks in months... finally got back to it
Hey everyone,
I hadn’t touched my DJ setup in months. Life got busy, lost a bit of momentum, and the decks were just sitting there collecting dust.
A few weeks ago I decided to step back into it. Spent hours re-practicing and it feels so good to play dnb again. So i just posted my set on soundcloud and i would love to have feed-backs from you guys.
I like to move on from euphoric, high energy tracks to aggressive and noisy neuro songs. You'll also hear some sweet harmonics liquid blends.
You can see the tracklist in the description, thanks to everyone who listens, i'd appreciate sincer feedbacks to improve !

Any recommendations for experimental drum n bass or other electronic music?
Hello fellow dnb lovers!
It's hard to describe what I'm searching for since it's all subjective, but I'll give it a try.
Although I like drum and bass a lot in general, I tend to love the experimental type the most, with good sound design, a lot going on and preferably a bit agressive. I love digging into artists and songs to try and find hidden gems. On the other hand I feel the songs I personally like are a bit of a niche, and it's hard to find really good releases. My friends don't really like it when the dnb has too much experimental beats, so I cant really ask them. Also, I question some songs would still be categorized as drum n bass.
To give an impression of the type of music that I like I give a sum up:
Culprate - Last 4 albums, big fan of his stuff
Noisia - Decloak
Sleepnet - Love no more
Mefjus - Correlation
Koan Sound - last 2 albums
More traditional sounding but still dig it a lot:
Circumference - Breath
Eluun - Soulchild
Rusty K - Orphan/Puppet
I also like some breakcore for the aggression part (like old Igorrr), but I find it often lacks the sound design.
Thanks for checking and let me now if anything pops up!

Metal & Early Drum 'n Bass
Hello all,
I've been in this group long enough to have seen many posts about metal and DnB. I've long thought about the similarities and why these go together so well. I wrote a piece on the connection between the two by looking at Black Sabbath and 90s Drum 'n Bass & Techstep, with a bit of a rambling anecdote.
There's a YouTube playlist here of tracks. Some standout recs below:
Descending Angel - Low Slung (Nu Black 1999)
On the No-U-Turn darker techstep label. This sounds like it could be a Nu-metal crossover; the rumbling of the bass sounds like a guitar riff.
Technical Itch - Heavy Metal (2000)
Sure, the clue is in the title.
NIN - Perfect Drug (Plug) (1996)
Okay, Luke Vibert IDM(y) sort of 160 track, but you can feel how NIN's hazy sound riffs well with the speed and the breaks.
The Dark Master - Darkness (1996)
A Dom & Roland alias, super atmospheric, with echo(y) hissing sounds throughout. Really has the quality of a gothic metal band.
Rufige Kru - Dark Metal (1996)
I mean, I've been quite literal on this one, but it has all the atmospherics of metal music. Also, Rob Playford produced it- Rob Halford, the lead singer of Judas Priest. Tenuous, sure.
Laibach - God Is God (Optical Vocal Mix) (1996)
Optical remixing a Slovenian industrial band, big crashing hi-hats on this one could be a trash metal drum solo.
DJ Phantasy & DJ Probe - Orders (DJ Reality Distortion Mix) (1999)
Big warping wall of sound on this one feels like one drawn-out long bass note. Quite similar to the way in which a band like Sabbath plays.
Henry Rollins, Goldie – T-4 Strain (1997)
Black Flag lead singer and legend Goldie - not metal per se but a crossover between punk and 160 for the Spawn soundtrack, which saw a lot of industrial/metal artists cross over with breakbeat.
Korn - Falling Away from Me (Krust Remix) (1999)
Quite a bit different to the others, more focused on the bouncier jump-up style of the time, so an interesting collab for that alone.
Some anecdotal comparisons between the two styles:
It was noted that around 1994/1995, the darkness into Jungle was the result of a self-inflicted ‘comedown’ from the ecstasy years of acid house. Black Sabbath's metal sound was characterised as the movement that 'killed the hippie dream'.
When DJ Trace first played his remix of T Power’s Mutant Jazz (said to be one of the first Techstep tunes), his partner in the booth described it as ‘Devil’s Music’. Obviously, the same hysteria that surrounded metal in the 70s- Black Sabbath- being seen as ungodly.
Geezer Butler (sick name), Sabbath’s bassist, described his music as that which would 'shake the floor'; Dillinja would say that the beauty of 90s sound was “People felt drum & bass how it’s meant to be felt. Not heard… Felt.”
Anyway, all this to say, I would love to hear some recommendations - feel free to post below
My tastes are 90s and 00s focused, so there is probably a lot of newer stuff I'm missing
