The guy in the thumbnail is Trevor Rainbolt, an internet famous geogussr. I think he's won competitions and stuff. Anyway it's more than just a hobby for him to identify locations just from a single picture.

As geoguessing has become more mainstream people have started reaching out for help finding personally meaningful locations from photos, it's becoming kind of a part of the geoguessing community. A lot of the time it's from deceased relative's photos or childhood photos.
