Discussion Is there a guide online for new drivers?

I was wondering if there is like an online guide out there for new drivers? A guide on what kind of orders to accept, staying with your zone etc….I noticed from a lot of post on here, newer drivers struggle with such and I decided to create pdf guide for us gig drivers who may have only 3 to 4 hrs to spare and how to make the most of it. Not sure if there’s even interest in such but I place examples 2 pages from the pdf guide. Obviously it can be tailored to your market because I know there are markers were $7 under 3 miles doesn’t come so often.

News How to file arbitration for doordash

I previously created a step-by-step guide on how to file arbitration against Uber & Lyft, some reddit users reached out and asked me to create one for doordash as well, so I have done so. If you ever have an issue on doordash and you can't get it resolved with support you do have a legal way to force doordash to communicate with you directly, and this is for pay disputes, deactivations, etc. You can find the article here: https://middletontech.com/blog/questions/doordash-arbitration/

So tonight I got this order by itself $5.50 for 5 miles into nowhere. Quick decline. Get it again, stacked with some other slop, decline. Get it a 3rd time for $14, stacked, which made it takeable. Pick up this customers dairy queen, then wait about 5 minutes at Burger King for the other order. Get to the drop-off for burger king, and I get this message. As you can see, I wasnt rude, just vigilant. Called customer service and blocked the customer while i was on the way. Support asked if id finish the delivery and since i was only a coupke of minutes away i said i would. Get to this customers house, put the dairy queen on their front door, then get back in the car and some little hillbilly comes out the side garage asking where his food is. I tell him the front door. He goes, this is the front door, pointing to the garage door. I gave him a "pfft" and started driving away and said have a nice night. Then thats when he goes full psychotic and starts running towards the car... over some fucking ice cream. Now I get the frustration because DD are some slimeballs to pair ice cream with another stacked order, and I will say that this isnt the first time or 50th time ive had ice cream stacked with another order.. but its the first time some dude went wacko over it. Called 911 using the app and filed a police report to cover my ass. Its some BS we get put in these shitty positions because of tony xu's greed

I've never seen that you had to present an ID to pick up a non-alcoholic order from a store... 😭

Story 📖 12,500 deliveries over six years. Retired today.. because today was too much.

I do UberEats and DoorDash at the same time. Had a great Saturday. $225 in eight hours.

Today.
UE: Home Depot didn’t say it was a larger order. couldn’t fit in my car.

DD: Target but it’s all Halloween crap already picked through. unassigned two orders.

UE: IHOP. someone already took your $15 for 5.6 miles.

DD: Cashier has diarrhea and disappears for 15 minutes. Unassign

DD: Standing here for 11 minutes at McD. unusual as we have good McD here.

12,651 between the two. Used it to pay for tuition for two kids in college. They made it without debt.

As I hit the “unassign” button, this 20 hour a week side hustle since late 2020 is done. Had a good run. Don’t need to do it anymore.

Stay safe out there, friends.

App Issues Waste of time

I'm sure i can add this to the list but please remove this. Complete and utter waste of time.

You know who's job it is to verify the contents of the order? The restaurants.

I'm the delivery driver. I take it from point A to point B. I don't verify contents EVER. Just remove this.

What Happened Here? Contract violation for app error?

How likely are you to have a violation for an app error taken away? I had such a weird situation, I had a stacked order but when I completed the first order, the second had disappeared and started searching for new orders. I figured they had cancelled and I just hadn’t received the message yet. Well, this was my last order so I headed home. I was dashing in a city near mine and the way back is all highway, I get a HELLO? Message like 15 minute later and I’m not clicking on it because I’m driving on a highway, under construction, in the dark. I click on it when I get home and I’m like what the hell?? I can only see the message notifications but not actually in my app and I was never connected to this person through the app. Just received a contact violation for it and disputed it, first time that’s happened to me. Super weird.

Came to do a super low mileage double at the Papa Johns that was insanely backed up and had only one guy working the whole place.

Was about to unassign but then for the first time I see this merchant delay pay. Since it's 2 orders, I got an extra 4 bucks out of it to total 16 bucks in 30 minutes.

Hope this'll be a thing I see every time from here on. It's super annoying when a slow order still has solid enough pay to start putting me on the sunk cost fallacy path.

I Need to Vent! 🤬 Haters man🤣🤣🤣

Was assigned for 3 customers to do shop around and deliver in Walmart…that’s Instacart btw too.. I had 27 items to look for. Everything done but only 4 items left to fill my cart.. and guess what this guy looked at me some type of way, almost as if I did him wrong(I don’t know that guy)..and once i distanced myself away from the cart to look for the other 4 items and returned to my cart, that thing(my cart full of supplies), was gone,disappeared.. y’all could fill in the blank who stole it…all that hard work man 😒🤦🏽‍♂️ almost spent and hour in that store too to look for items cause you know how Walmart is… Carefully guys keep your cart always by your side…

I Need to Vent! 🤬 DoorDash support doesn’t support its drivers

Long story short, I’m queer and outwardly appear so. Yesterday during an order (handoff with pin) a customer decided to call me a slur and harass me due to my identity. While maybe not the best choice I immediately pulled the order away (edit since I said I pulled it from hand), drove straight back to the store and returned their order. Notified support of the situation and they said I was wrong to deny the customer their order regardless of the way I was harassed during delivery. I’m probably going to quit DoorDash if this gets me a contract violation.

(Update for yall) dash support came back and revised their choice to say I was wrong. For those of you have haven’t read your contracts and decided to say “well you did something wrong or “you just need to toughen up” literally singed onto this job because they promise protection for my community against harassment. Absolutely heartbreaking to comment in a Reddit geared towards people who are supposed to know what they are talking about but plenty of commenters have a clear prejudice against people in my community.

You know you're done Dashing for the night, when you see two police cars parked in one of the lanes on the road, and there's a dog laying there. Definitely not something I wanted to see tonight.

Earnings Equals 10$ per hour!

I have about $23 to go to make it to my weekly goal (a goal I never set) and Door Dash says I’ll make my goal in about 2 hours. This job has such shit pay, I quit accepting every dash and am now down to Gold status I was Platinum but haven’t seen a difference in the orders I’m sent. Same bullshit!

Nothing worse then DoorDash Customer Service asking you to provide more information & having to explain all you have access is to your Ratings..& that if you actually had access to address, photos or Handed Order to Customer you could determine if there was a flooded road or the customer met you outside….but their resolution is to tell you they don’t have the ability to correct anything on your account but that you can “Just Keep Dashin”

Discussion 1 Week Old DD driver (but experienced IC shopper) with some questions

First, I am an Instacart Shopper with good metrics, and so am used to this type of work. I joined DD as I was curious about it, and thought it'd be good to have another means of income, even if as a backup.

I am in BC, and so we get guaranteed hourly pay, and most customers never tip (and tips are low), if that helps add any context.

What I've noticed so far of DD compared to IC in my area:

- 100x easier than IC in terms of responsibility and skillset (you just pick up and deliver food; I don't have a Red card for Shop and Pay yet).
- Obviously it's mostly driving, and short distance city driving at that, and I can "feel" it eating away at my car
- If I'm in an area near restaurants, I will definitely get offers pretty quickly. If I am not, I will be waiting 10x longer for one.
- The offer pay approximately matches what I would get paid for hourly pay; since hourly pay is based on "Active" time only. Compared to IC though, this effectively means mostly driving, and you don't get paid for driving away from the customer's house. This also means I'm not getting paid while I drive away from a customer's house, back to somewhere with restaurants; with IC, you can get orders even if you're not near a grocery store, so you get paid to drive to the store.

So for now, IC easily beats DD. However, I am not sure if the types of orders get better as you climb up the ranks.

Questions:

  1. As I say, I'm only about 7-8 days in now. Is it harder to get good orders when you're new to DD?
  2. I've only seen small orders so far (mostly food for 1 person, sometimes 2). Is that normal? Is it because I'm new? I assume you're more likely to get tips on the bigger orders.
  3. Have you noticed a correlation with higher tips if you deliver farther?
  4. I do not have my physical red card yet, but it should be coming in the mail in 4 days. However, I somehow have the red card in my Google Wallet (I forget how it got there, but I must have had the ability to add it when I initially used the app). Can I use that Google Wallet red card for orders that require a Red Card? Because so far I've been having to cancel any orders that come in for the Red Card...
  5. Are there ever any large grocery shops on DD? My guess is that most are 1-5 items, while on IC I'm used to do sometimes doing 100 item batches. It'd be nice if I could utilize my IC skills on DD, if people tip better on DD.

Thanks!

Tips and Tricks How to keep track of who tips what.

Obviously when the app gives you a stacked order, you usually cannot see what each order pays. It just gives you the total for both. You can sort of work around this though.

Sometimes the app gives you an order. Then when you are on your way to pick it up, it gives you another order to add to the route.

Each time you receive a single order, you can tap the gear icon in the top left, tap the message icon in the top right, and it will tell you the name of the customer for that order.

This way if you get a second order and are waiting a long time for one of the orders, you know which order to wait for and which one to unassign from.
