Hi Dukes!
It's been so great to see the community here grow recently, and we'd like to keep that going. The more people are here, the more useful this forum becomes.
Towards that end, I've created this flyer to advertise our community!
Please help us out by printing and posting around campus! Feel free to print in black and white of course -- I've tried to make it high contrast so that it will look ok that way.
I realize a PDF would probably be better for printing, but it's much easier to share images on Reddit, so so be it. If this is a problem for you please let me know.

I’m looking to hire a local college student or recent graduate with some hands-on research experience for a small grant-funded polymer/materials testing project.
I’m especially interested in someone studying chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, polymer science, or a related field who is comfortable running experiments, keeping good notes, and helping develop a repeatable procedure.
Pay: $25/hour for an initial ~16–20 hours of work, with possible additional paid work afterward.

Hey guys, quick look at where the Dukes stand on the bye week.
First, since it's in the title: we run a free weekly college football pick'em. This week is 10 games, pick the winners, nothing to buy, $135 in prizes. Picks lock Saturday at noon ET, so here's something to do on the bye week.
https://www.mainmarket.com/c/college-pickem-wk5
Now the Dukes. The record says 1-3, but look at the first three: at Air Force, at No. 10 Youngstown State and at Washington State, all on the road against FBS teams or a top-10 FCS team. They finally got to play at Rooney Field last Saturday and shut out Rio Grande 53-0.
The non-conference grind is done. NEC play starts Oct 10 with homecoming against LIU, then at Stonehill and Wagner at home. In Schmitt's 22nd season, the NEC title is still the goal, and every conference game is still ahead.
What are you guys seeing? Does the road gauntlet pay off once NEC play starts?

Looking for a Collaborative Drummer for a Jazz/Punk Cabaret Duo
This is an original, experimental art project, not a corporate gig. I am looking for a younger creative partner (18-30 preferred) to help build and arrange this material from the ground up over the next few months.
I am handling the writing, the charts, and the advertising, as well as 100% of the rehearsal space and rental fees. I have a massive sounding subwoofer for the bass (in my left hand) and clavinet or overdriven Rhodes (in my right hand).
Song lyrics are loud, odd, funny and dramatic. All future gig payouts/door splits will be split 50/50.
If you are a jazz student who wants to move beyond the 1940s and try something different DM me. Thanks!

Hi! I recently applied to Duquesne University’s Second Degree BSN/ABSN program and it is currently my top choice. I’m really hoping to get accepted and was wondering if anyone who was recently admitted would be willing to share their stats.
If you were accepted, what was your cumulative GPA and prerequisite/science GPA? Did you still have any prerequisites in progress when you applied? Also, how long after your application was complete did you receive a decision?
I know admissions decisions depend on more than just GPA, but I’d love to hear from people who have gone through the process. Thank you!! :)

I’m starting my graduate program this fall and I’m looking for recommendations on where students usually purchase textbooks at better prices.
Are there any local bookstores, websites, student groups, or other places you would recommend for finding graduate-level textbooks at a good price?
Thanks in advance for any recommendations! 😊

I was just hired to teach a section of first-year writing this fall. This is my first time at Duquesne and I want my class to be as helpful as possible.
What are some of the most useful things you’ve gotten out of first year writing?
What do you wish there’d been more of?

Hi there!
I am an incoming grad student at Duquesne, and I just took a look at the student parking rates. I almost couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that it was $1100.00 for a full academic year, especially given that my last institution offered free student parking.
Is it really necessary to pay such a fee to park near campus? What other, cheaper or ideally free options might be available? I'd be willing to walk 15 to 20 minutes if necessary, and most of my seminars will be in College Hall.
Would you recommend public transit?
I'll be living in Squirrel Hill South, to give a reference for distance & advice.
Thank you

Hello. I’m a soon to be junior at Duquesne. I major in psychology and I will finish all requirements for that major at the end of this semester. That said, a recent life switch has made me desperately want to pursue my dream of becoming a secondary level science teacher. That said, I’m really worried about classes like chemistry and organic chemistry. Bio and environmental science come naturally to me. Some parts of chemistry and physics are also easy for me, but I’m worried that the math and problems will be too much. Honest opinion: are the STEM programs at Duquesne too difficult for someone who just wants to be a teacher?

My niece is starting at Duquesne next semester and will be living on campus while rowing on the crew team. I went to school in Pittsburgh 25 years ago and loved it, so I couldn’t be more excited for her and an excuse to visit the city more often.
What I’m wondering, from the experience of people who went to Duquesne and lived on campus, what’s that one item or service that you wish you had or known about freshman year? Her birthday is right around the start of the semester so I’d love to give her a gift I know she’ll use and appreciate.
I greatly appreciate any suggestions!

My grandfather went to Duquesne in the late 50s and we both had to take a logic course but he said it wasn’t called logic then. If anyone has potential ideas it would be a great help. He said he hasn’t been able to think of it for years.

Hi 👋🏽 Incoming grad student currently out of state apartment hunting like crazy before August rolls in.
I'm back at it again this time to ask about the Western part of the city.
If anyone has experience living in Crafton/the Western side and taking a bus to campus/downtown:
What is the commute like from Crafton?
Seems like there are a number of bus lines to choose from, which would you say is the most reliable and/or less lengthy ride? Least reliable and/or longest ride?
How are the buses at rush hours? Crowded? Longer commutes than estimated?
Any hidden pros/cons to living in Crafton/the West despite the majority of my daily activities being downtown? Am I crazy for looking this far out?
Would you recommend the Western side of the city for apartments for a student relying on public transportation or should I prioritize looking elsewhere?
I don't mind long commutes (to a point) but I do need reliability and consistency so I'm trying to get a sense of that by getting as much on the ground info as I can. Any help is appreciated!

Hi all! I'm an incoming grad student without a car virtually apartment hunting from out of state.
I'm currently entertaining the idea of signing with a place out in Carrick bordering Brentwood with the 51/51L bus as the only transit to downtown, about 51 minutes per the Transit App. Another place that I am considering is in Dormont very close to the Red Line (though I like this place a little less despite it being closer). But the Dormont commute is not that much better from what I can tell, hitting about 45min per the Transit App.
Every other listing so far has been a bust or does not meet my criteria- and I've been searching since April! You can imagine my desperation.
I am feeling so conflicted because I like the Carrick apartment! It's clean and not years old, the rent is exactly what I can afford (which has been ridiculously hard to find), the neighborhood has some nearby groceries/convenience stores that are close to my cultural background, it seems like a cozy quiet spot, and I honestly don't mind long commutes. Long commutes are fine BUT inconsistency, uncertainty, and the high chance of being late are not.
I have been trying to research this bus line specifically and the Red Line but I keep getting mixed reviews about whether the 51 and 51L are consistent with their lateness/on-timeness and whether the Red Line is always delayed/under construction/using shuttles.
TLDR: Is the ~51min commute on the 51/51L from Carrick/Brentwood to campus worth it to live in a decent apartment at a good affordable rent?
Or will the chaos of the buses and commute cause me a greater headache and make me wish I paid more/lowered my living standards to be closer to campus?
Are the buses consistently late/early or is it a coin toss?
Are the 51/51L commute times typically longer/unreliably variable?
Is it a bad idea to rely on the 51 buses as my only transportation to downtown aside from infrequent rideshares/carpooling? If I go with Dormont, is it a bad idea to rely solely on the Red Line?
Is the Red Line more overall reliable than the bus routes?
Should I avoid this entirely by only focusing on listings in the east, even if they don't meet my criteria?
Thanks if you read and answer this post, much appreciated!!
