Hiking Hikes before the upcoming rain?

Howdy everyone, wife and I come up every year for our anniversary. Unfortunately looks like the weather is going to be pretty poor next week. Any tips on hikes for possibly Sunday or Monday before the rain picks back up? Looks like most of the trails are listed as muddy right now. But wanted to see if anyone local to the area has knowledge of some trails that might dry up quicker or are generally less muddy.

Nothing will be dry. Pure mud now with heavy rains anticipated mid week, again. Sorry but this isn't the time to hike

Thanks for the insight. Sounds like we’ve just gotten lucky every year we’ve come out. Anything else you recommend doing while we’re in town? We typically just hike for most of the day. But sounds like we’ll need something else to do.

Nah we never get rain like this, you're just unlucky this year is all. It's been absolutely nuts amounts of rain for this time of year the last few weeks. I've been here for 6 years and this is by far the most rain I've seen.

That’s good to hear. Because we plan to keep visiting every year around this time.

I actually think today and saturday will dry out a lot of in-town trails quite a bit. Junction creek to Gudy's rest is a classic.

Glad to hear it. We were hoping the weekend would dry it up a bit.

Yeah, town should mostly be good for the weekend, mid country, so up to around 9k ft will probably be ok on Sun and Mon, higher than that is a no go though.

Agreed. Yeah I wouldn’t be discouraged especially after a full sun day today. Lots of trails will be manageable and wonderful.

Its going to be hard to say exactly what is dry without looking up individual places. Dove creek/cortez got snow yesterday so mesa verde and that area is probably muddy, which would be my best guess…maybe Aztec. Everything has been getting soaked the last three weeks. Multiple inches of rain over numerous days.

Appreciate the insight! Sounds like the mud may just be unavoidable. We may just have to stick with the easier hikes around town then.

Gudy’s for sure. May be muddy in a few spots only

We’ll definitely be sure to do this one then. Another person also recommended it.

A little out of town, but regardless of how rainy it is Lake Eileen and Vallecito Creek trail are always pretty good. I remember being on Lake Eileen trail the weekend that Vallecito flooded out last year and it was just fine.

We’ve actually done the Lake Eileen and it was a nice little trail. Thanks! Glad to hear we can probably head back to there. I’ll put it on the list.

Aspens should be around peaking over there too this weekend. We live right down the road. Have fun!

I'm not sure where you were planning on hiking, but today Saturday, all the in town trails are dry. I think mid country would also be ok, with just some mud spots.
