St Mary’s Girls School - 1890-1930

Hello! I’m currently researching St Mary’s Girls School/The Green/Ealing and have connected dots that my great grand aunt and great great grand aunt both taught here with one being headmistress. The school since shut down and I believe some archives went to the london archives but I was wondering if there was any more local Ealing knowledge, stories, photos etc that could be available if I asked! Thank you in advance

Moving to Northfields

We’re relocating and thinking of buying a property in Northfields. Not familiar with the area, mainly moving for the primary school. Both of us need to commute into central for work 4 days a week.

Would appreciate some opinions about the area from the locals, good or bad. What’s the demographics and culture like? Any street I should avoid? Given how big the primary school is I assume there would be traffic issues during pick up hours?

[IRL] [27/10/26] & [03/11/26] Beginner-Friendly Halloween Horror RPGs in Hounslow

Hi folks! 👋

Fancy investigating a haunted house or venturing into something that really shouldn't exist? 🎃

I'm organising a couple of horror-themed tabletop RPG evenings at The Hanworth in Hounslow over the next two weeks. They're a good opportunity to try something new, especially if you've been curious about role-playing games but never quite known where to start. 🙂

There are two adventures on offer, both playable as a single evening. You don't need to know any rules beforehand, and I'll make sure everyone has what they need to get involved.

🩸 Mystery Flesh Pit National Park - Candy Corn adventure

A weird horror adventure set in a very unusual national park. Halloween has arrived, an experimental device has gone missing deep within the Pit and the company sending you in insists that everything is perfectly safe. What could possibly go wrong?

👻 Call of Cthulhu - The Haunting adventure

Step into 1926 Boston and investigate a supposedly haunted property. The owner wants to get the place ready for rent, but first you'll need to find out what's really going on. Surely there's no such thing as ghosts... right?

🎲 When and where?

📅 Tuesday 27 October (Candy Corn)
📅 Tuesday 3 November 2026 (The Haunting)
🕖 7:00-10:30pm
📍 The Hanworth, 48 Hanworth Road, Hounslow, TW3 1UG

Hounslow is fairly straightforward to get to from Ealing, with the Piccadilly line and local bus connections available.

The sessions are completely free, with no minimum spend at the pub. It's a chance to enjoy an evening of dice, questionable decisions and hopefully surviving whatever horrors await! 😄

Each session has limited places, so if either adventure sounds like your kind of thing, drop me a comment or send me a message and I'll point you towards the sign-up details.

You don't need to bring anything or have played a TTRPG before. Just bring yourself and a bit of curiosity!

Hope to see some fellow West Londoners at the table! 🙂

West Ealing / Dean Gardens Safety

Hey all, appreciate this has been asked a couple of times before. We're close to buying a property in West Ealing, on Melbourne Avenue just below the Broadway/Uxbridge Road.

All my research shows there's mixed reviews on safety but I'm concerned by Deans Gardens which seem to be unanimously seen as a no-go zone in the evening. I'm worried about any spillover with it being so close to the property we're interested in.

Can anyone please shed some light on this before we pull the trigger?

We're a young family and it's a big investment. We'd need to spend even more on top to fix up the place so want to put my mind at ease before committing.

It went on for about 20 minutes from 8pm and the fireworks were way too big to be amateur. Anyone know what that's about?

Ealing Creative Meet Up Group

Fancy knowing more creative people who live nearby?

People to share ideas with, learn something from, make things with, or simply meet for a coffee and a good chat?

I’m planning a regular creative meet-up in the Ealing area, potentially starting in January 2027, or sooner if there’s enough interest. I’d love to hear from anyone who might like to join.

The idea is simple: meet people who share your interests, discover a few new ones and build friendships through getting together regularly.

Who’s it for? Anyone who enjoys making, designing, writing or performing. Photographers, artists, musicians, writers, filmmakers, designers, craftspeople, actors, dancers, models, stylists and make-up artists are all welcome. Whether it’s your work, a weekend hobby or something you’d love to get back into, there’s a place for you.

Perhaps you’re:

  • A musician looking for someone to jam with or help make a music video.
  • A writer wanting to exchange ideas or find people to read and discuss your work.
  • An artist or craftsperson keen to share techniques or visit exhibitions with others.
  • A photographer, model, stylist or make-up artist who’d enjoy planning a shoot together.
  • An actor, dancer or filmmaker looking for people to develop a performance or short film with.
  • A designer wanting a fresh perspective on an idea, or someone curious to try a creative hobby for the first time.

Or perhaps you’d simply like a wider circle of friends, feel less isolated and have something sociable to look forward to.

You don’t need a project, a portfolio or anything to prove. Curiosity and an interest in meeting people are enough.

We’d start with an informal coffee or drink and take it from there. Depending on what people fancy, future meet-ups could include sharing skills, trying something creative together, visiting exhibitions or heading to gigs.

Coming on your own? You’d be very welcome. Getting to know each other would be part of the purpose. I’d like this to become a group where you feel comfortable turning up, finding a familiar face and joining the conversation.

Interested? Comment below or message me with what you enjoy creating and what you’d like from the group. Feel free to tag a friend who might be interested too.

All my very best!

Chris

Ealing Council under fire over housing repairs failures and lengthy phone waits

Ealing Council tenants have faced telephone waits of up to 50 minutes to report housing repairs, while missed appointments, unfinished jobs and delays in urgent repairs have raised questions about the service they receive.

The problems were discussed at the council's Housing and Environment Scrutiny Panel on Wednesday (14 October 2026), where councillors questioned officials about the performance of the Labour-run council's housing repairs service.

In August, just 78.5% of repair appointments were kept, 79.3% of jobs were completed on the first visit and 79.7% of urgent repairs were finished on time. The council's target for each was 95%.

And it's not just repairs. Only 25.6% of tenants surveyed were satisfied with how the council handled complaints, while overall satisfaction with the council as a landlord was 57.7%.

Councillors also questioned why some repairs were being recorded as completed when tenants said the problems had not been fixed.

Council officers acknowledged difficulties with staffing and the introduction of a new repairs service. Opposition councillors have questioned why improvements have taken so long.

EALING.NEWS asked the council for further details, including the number of missed appointments and urgent repairs completed late in August, and whether September's performance had improved. Those figures were not provided in its response.

Could you help me with my infant observation, or know someone who might be interested?

Currently looking for a family to volunteer for an infant observation in London.

Hello! My name is Gareth and I have been studying a course about infant development at the British Psychotherapy Foundation. I have over 4 years of experience supporting children and alongside my studies, I currently work in NHS mental health services supporting children, young people and their families.

As a core part of my training with the British Psychotherapy Foundation, I am seeking to find a London based family, who would be willing for me to visit and observe their newborn baby from close to birth and up until their 2 year birthday.

The observations are typically for one hour, once a week, at a regular and convenient time for the first 2 years of your baby's life. Of course there is a lot of flexibility and weeks where a visit may not always be appropriate. This includes holidays, illness or any other circumstances that can be discussed throughout.

The purpose of my visits would simply be to quietly and non-judgementally observe your baby and their interactions in your home, in the completely ordinary circumstances of your day to day life. I would be completely in the background, just listening to you and observing how your baby is behaving and communicating during that hour. The observation would happen entirely at your comfort level, for example I could leave the room during any moments that your privacy is needed, depending on what you are most comfortable with.

Overall, this experience would help me learn deeply about the early development of infants and is a long established training component for child and adolescent psychotherapy training, which I am pursuing. Previous families report to have found the experience of hosting an observer uniquely rewarding, therapeutic and enriching: a chance to notice more of the small details of their child's early life.

If this interests you, or you know someone who might be interested, please contact me at: [gvinto01@student.bbk.ac.uk](mailto:gvinto01@student.bbk.ac.uk) for more information, or message me on here!

There would of course be no commitment until you had all the details you needed, including a chance to meet with me beforehand if you would prefer.

Any arrangement would be subject to approval by the British Psychotherapy Foundation who would also be able to provide a reference to any interested families. I also hold an enhanced DBS certificate.

Thank you!

Walpole Park theatre motion rejected as campaigners vow to fight on

Labour-run Ealing Council has rejected an opposition motion calling for plans for a 1,200-seat temporary Troubadour theatre in Walpole Park to be dropped, with campaigners saying they are now “more fired up than ever” to defeat the proposal.

The motion was led by Liberal Democrat Councillor Connie Hersch, the party’s culture, sports and communities spokesperson, at a full council meeting on Tuesday (13 October 2026).

Labour councillors voted against the motion after Liberal Democrat, Conservative and Green councillors raised objections to the proposed Troubadour theatre, including its impact on the park, the future of summer festivals and the financial risks involved.

Members of the Save Walpole Park campaign attended the meeting, while others watched online.

Save Walpole Park campaigner Marc Goodchild said: “Those of us in the room and who watched the meeting remotely are now more fired up than ever to defeat this unsolicited, untested, back-of-a-fag-packet proposal.”

Central Line Reduced Service

Hi all, just wanted to check with you all here. I’ve noticed over the past few months a significant change in the frequency of Central Line trains to Ealing Broadway.

I’m aware that TFL announced a while ago that they’d be reducing the number of trains running to EB due to the introduction of the Lizzie Line, but in that announcement they’ve claimed there will still be 6 trains per hour on weekdays. This has not been my experience at all, frequently I’ve seen wait time of over 20 minutes on a weekday. Many times arriving at North Acton at rush hour and EB is not even on the board.

I’m wondering if others are also experiencing this too? It makes travelling so difficult for us living in West Acton, unless you’re okay walking to EB or North Ealing for the Picadilly (which really isn’t much better). Would love to know others experiences with the line as of late.

Expecting a winter baby? A chance to be part of a 70-year tradition in child psychotherapy training

Hi everyone,

I’m studying for an MSc in Early Child Development and Clinical Applications at UCL and Anna Freud, a pioneering mental health charity for children and families. A key part of the course is a parent–infant observation, and I’m hoping to find a family in London who’d be happy to take part.

Why it matters: For over 70 years, observation like this has been at the heart of training for child psychotherapists. Watching a real baby grow within their family teaches us things no textbook can: how babies begin to communicate, make sense of the world and develop emotionally through their earliest relationships. By taking part, you’d be helping to train the people who will go on to support children and families for the rest of their careers. Many therapists say their infant observation was the most formative part of their training, and they never forget the family who welcomed them in.

What families say: The first visit or two can feel a little unusual, but research with families who’ve taken part shows that many parents came to really enjoy the visits. The early months with a new baby can be intense and sometimes isolating, and having a regular, calm visitor who is genuinely interested in your baby, every small change and new discovery, is something parents often value. Some said it helped them notice and enjoy their baby’s development more themselves, and many look back on it fondly years later.

What it involves: I’m looking for someone due between October 2026 and January 2027 (or with a very new baby). I’d visit for one hour a week during term time, at a regular time that suits you, from soon after birth until June 2028. There’s nothing to prepare and nothing to do differently.

What it isn’t: There are no tests or interventions, and we don't assess or judge you or your parenting. I simply sit quietly and take an interest in your baby as they grow, while your family goes about its usual routine.

I’m fully DBS-checked and follow UCL and Anna Freud safeguarding procedures. Everything is confidential: names are changed, so your family is never identified.

If this sounds like something you’d consider, or you know someone who might, please comment, DM me, or email the address on the flyer. I’d be very happy to answer any questions and provide further information.

Thank you so much for reading!

Please go eat at Pho Saigon in Ealing Broadway (a selfish plea)

I went to Pho Saigon on Saturday night and was really sad to see how quiet it was. When an independent restaurant is this good, a slow Saturday evening makes me worry they might close down.

I'm from SE Asia, and the food here truly hits the spot. They have something for everyone. If you're vegetarian, you will not be limited to a single, bland tofu dish because they have plenty of fresh options that taste authentic. Most importantly, their golden pancake is wonderfuI and I will genuinely be lost without it in my life. Even for takeaways, they make the pancakes fresh and ask the driver to wait.

They are also very family-friendly. The manager is lovely and has always looked after me, from when I visited while pregnant right up to dining there with my baby.

Please consider skipping the usual high street chains this week and paying them a visit so they stay open forever.

TL;DR: Pho Saigon in Ealing Broadway was too quiet on Saturday night. They serve incredible, authentic food (with great vegetarian options) and have wonderful, family-friendly staff. Please eat there more often so my beloved golden pancake stays in business.

Golds Gym Pool

Anyone use the pool here? Live close by, and looking for somewhere with a pool, but found Nuffield facilities very poor for the price, and it was 30 minutes walk for me to get there and then sit waiting for a space. Golds is 7 minutes walk, and cheaper.

Are they comparable/worse? And come on Ealing, why do we not have a proper pool locally for those of us who don’t drive/don’t want to travel out of the way to use one?

Generally I’m a runner, but like to mix it up with some swimming, and don’t enjoy strength training at all (not looking to build muscle etc). I’ll likely use a treadmill when the weather is too bad, but not looking for gym recommendations, just want to know how bad the pool is to pop in a few times a week for a swim.

Ealing Council report reveals no e-bike fines despite rising complaints

Ealing Council has revealed that it has not issued any fixed penalty notices for badly parked rental e-bikes since it introduced an enforcement policy eight months ago, despite growing complaints and concerns from residents about e-bikes blocking pavements and posing dangers to pedestrians.

The Labour-run council has said that limited staff capacity is one reason for the lack of fines. When it introduced the policy in February 2026, it said the scheme would be trialled using existing staff, with the workload monitored to assess whether additional resources were needed.

The findings are contained in a report written by Ealing Council head of transport Emily Shovlar and principal transport planner Eric Pisani, which goes before a full Ealing Council meeting on Tuesday (13 October 2026). Councillors will consider proposals to give officers stronger powers to remove dangerous or obstructive e-bikes from streets and pavements.

The report states: “To date, no FPNs have been issued, which is mainly due to the reporting requirements in the enforcement policy, ensuring operators are provided with a reasonable timeframe to remove bikes, in line with legislative requirements, and a focus on collaborative working rather than punitive action as a starting point to address obstructive bikes.”

It adds: “It is also due to limited staff capacity and ongoing work to identify and prioritise parking issue hotspots.”

The council says working with e-bike operators rather than immediately issuing penalties improved parking compliance for several months, but the situation has since worsened.

The report acknowledges that “there has been a significant rise in resident complaints” about bikes being left on pavements and other parts of the highway, obstructing people using them.

Although the council has identified limited staff capacity as one reason for the lack of fines, it has yet to establish what staffing resources will be needed to enforce the proposed stronger measures.

Its October 2026 report says: “Staffing and workforce implications would relate to the strengthened enforcement policy, and have yet to be determined. They will be assessed and noted for the General Purposes Committee report.”

When Ealing Council introduced its enforcement policy in February 2026, it said operators could face fines if they failed to remove obstructing bikes within two hours of being notified, depending on how serious the obstruction was.

At the time, the council said it was receiving between five and ten complaints a month about e-bikes, with Acton and Ealing among the worst affected areas.

The new proposals would extend the council’s existing highways enforcement arrangements by explicitly giving authorised officers powers under Section 149 of the Highways Act 1980 to deal with dangerous or obstructive e-bikes.

This would allow Ealing Council officers to remove e-bikes posing an immediate danger to the public and recover reasonable removal costs from operators. Where bikes cause a nuisance but do not present an immediate danger, the council would have to give notice and, if necessary, obtain a court order before removing them.

Ealing Council leader Councillor Peter Mason said on the council’s Around Ealing website: “The challenge is not e-bikes themselves. The challenge is making sure they are used responsibly and managed properly.”

Outlining the council's plans, Councillor Mason said: "These measures include more accurate geo-fencing to ensure bikes are parked in designated locations, additional rangers on the ground to respond to issues more quickly, and clearer enforcement arrangements where operators fail to meet their responsibilities."

Lime and Forest are the two rental e-bike operators with agreements to operate in Ealing, with a combined fleet limit of 1,800 bikes. According to the council, rental e-bikes now account for an estimated 25% of cycling journeys across the borough.

Ealing Council is also planning to replace most virtual e-bike parking bays with physically marked spaces on streets across the borough.

The report states: “Ultimately, the council intends to mostly cease using virtual bays and only use marked bays, which are planned for approximately 300 locations across the borough.”

The council says it is expanding designated parking bays following consultation with residents and ward councillors.

Ealing Liberal Democrats are calling for a review of e-bike parking bays that residents have complained about, particularly those near junctions or restricting access for disabled people.

In an amendment submitted ahead of Tuesday’s council meeting, the opposition party also wants Ealing Council to express regret over the lack of enforcement during the past eight months.

The amendment also criticises the lack of progress towards a comprehensive London-wide e-bike licensing system, calling on councillors to express regret that the Mayor of London and the Secretary of State for Transport have not taken all necessary steps to introduce one.

The council’s report says a London-wide e-bike licensing system is not expected until summer 2027 at the earliest.

If councillors approve the proposed additional enforcement powers, the strengthened policy will still need approval from Ealing Council’s General Purposes Committee.

Southall high schools

Hi everyone! 😊
I was wondering if anyone here went to any of the secondary schools in Southall, either recently or in the past.
I’d love to hear people’s experiences, what they thought of their school, the teachers, the general atmosphere, and what school life was like.
It would be interesting to hear from people who attended different schools in Southall and how they found their time there. Any positive or negative experiences are welcome.
