Hell yeah. Fuck yeah. Edmonton shows up.
First we vote, then we rest up for the provincial campaign next year… to send these seppie UCP back to the Wildrose days.

u/Fun_universe 22h ago
Let’s do it 🙌🏽

We cannot forget.. they’re gerrymandering as we speak.

u/awnawnamoose 19h ago
I’ll never forget this bullshit. I am like to spread the wealth and give those in need the services they need, but that doesn’t mean I won’t fight tooth and nail for this country.

In my rare defense of the conservatives, this referendum has brought bonding amongst both sides. I had a shocking conversation with my boomer dad today that he was not in support of separation. He is a long standing blue blood con, and he is disgusted by this whole process.

u/swiftb3 16h ago
Yeah I know some pretty right wing people and family and, if not all, almost all are for staying in Canada. If any of them are separatist, they're keeping real quiet about it on social media and conversations, which isn't exactly a seppie trait.
•
u/Limp-Newspaper3937 2h ago
I do think there's gonna be a spike of voters who were smart enough to know their position is stupid enough to be quiet about it, but still stupid enough to vote for it anyway. It won't be large, but I think the votes to separate will be MARGINALLY higher than what we might expect for that reason. Not many people sit on that rare balance of intelligent enough to be aware but stupid enough to still not think
•
•
u/susulaima 5h ago
But he will still vote UCP?
•
u/Mcpops1618 1h ago
Irrelevant to the point I made
•
u/susulaima 1h ago
I'm not arguing with you, I'm asking a simple question. I'm curious to know whether or not he's still voting for UCP next time given your discussion. Let's not act like a bunch of robots that only answer to exact prompts and can't pivot from context.

You know what Im reassured. I don’t recall separatists having rallies this big. That being said, make sure you vote tonight, tomorrow or on Monday. This is a moment in time where the children of today and the generation yet to be born will judge us for if we are right or wrong, we need reassure the future that we didn’t throw it out for the whims of a few deluded individuals.
The torch must be passed forward, not put out because a few people gave up.
Edit: Monday not Tuesday my bad.

Monday!!!

u/pookiemook 21h ago edited 21h ago
Seriously. Referendum will be over by Tuesday
Edit: a word, because I do not want to contribute to confusion on this. If you don't vote in person by end of poll day tomorrow (Saturday), then Monday will be the last opportunity to vote.

u/Red_Danger33 21h ago
We’re going to be stuck listening to the separatists for the rest of our lives though.
6
u/Unicorn_Puppy 21h ago
We’re gonna be stuck listening to them howl about how it was rigged and I’m sure whoever comes after Smith is going to oblige that sort of stupidity.
2
u/Red_Danger33 21h ago
It’s already started. I hate this timeline.
1
u/Maelstrom_Witch 19h ago
We will find out soon by what margin they are going to lose.
I was concerned that people weren’t going to bother.
I hope it’s a landslide.

u/datgoh69 19h ago
as a child of today (even though i’m gonna be an adult within the next 2-3 years), this matters for my future. your future. my family’s future. my sibling‘s future. my children’s future. everyone future
SO GET UP AND VOTE!

u/Alberta_Flyfisher 19h ago
Every parent, since the beginning of human kind, has wanted their kids to have better than they did, growing up. More food, more leisure, more safety, etc...
If the seppies win, we will be wiping away that hope.
My kids had more than i did, and I will do part to make sure my grandkids will have more than they did.
Anything less feels meaningless. Whats the point in money or cars or big homes, if we leave behind garbage for those who come after us?
If the rally tonight is any indication, its going to be an overwhelming victory. Just a few more days to go.

Separatists are having a rally at the legislature tomorrow. Think I heard 2Pm on the news. Let’s go make them feel extremely unwelcome Edmontonians!!

Took my son to show what voting means and how this vote affects his life more than mine.

u/scottnow 21h ago
Please VOTE. No excuses. I know it gets easy to shrug it off, or say, my vote won't matter. That is not the case for this referendum. Every vote counts. Remember, it's all up to you. YOU.

The cheers were especially loud when it was brought up that we wont be the 51st state and will not be so dependent on the United States going forward.

Some great speeches tonight. I moved here from. BC 3 years ago and while I have a lot of issues with Alberta politics, I love Edmonton and the community I've found here. I don't usually consider myself very patriotic day to day but I showed up for this because I am a proud Canadian. Personally I think some of the loudest cheers of the ralley were in response to quotes about us not becoming a 51st state. Get out and vote everyone! And shout out to anyone who was here tonight with me. I hate crowds and I was exhausted and hungry (came straight from work) but it was worth it to be surrounded by the love and support of this city.
4
u/Fun_universe 19h ago
Same!! I moved here from BC 4 years ago. I agree with all your points.
4
u/polkadotfuzz 19h ago
I'll admit as a BC girlie born and raised I've had my fair share of poking fun at Albertans before I moved here. But at the end of the day we are all Canadians first and we are stronger together especially with the international political climate as it is. I think for the first time since moving here I can finally consider myself a proud Albertan. Made a lot of noise tonight to show the whole country who Albertans are and what we stand for ❤️

I voted today.
The line took an hour, because only one of the key personnel (the one who actually witnesses the vote being put into the boxes) showed up. They had planned for two. (They had about 8 other workers, but they were there for identification/etc jobs) (I heard the second worker was going to make it for the evening)
When I left, the line was 150% as long as when I arrived, meaning a 90m wait time. The voting itself only took like 5 minutes.
Even if both workers had been there, that still would have been a 45m wait.
I told the line it took me a hour.... And not one person left the line. That little fact makes me kinda proud of us.

Don’t leave it up to chance! The seppies are still going out to vote on MONDAY.
There is still some time to get your vote in by MONDAY with advance polls still open for tomorrow! ( Last day of advance voting! )
Or go vote on MONDAY! 🇨🇦

My wife, daughter and I voted Tuesday.
Three votes to stay.
15
u/CartoonistFlat3943 21h ago
Same.
The fan at the Oilers’ game last night with the Alberta flag wasn’t waving it when we acknowledged the service of a Canadian vet with a standing O.
9
u/hamtronn 21h ago
I hate when flags are weaponized.
7
u/__Beelzaboot__ 19h ago
Flags have always been symbols of allegiance, they're literally something to rally around.
It sucks when the values of the people now waving a flag you used to wave are anathema to your values, for sure. But it was their choice to use the Alberta flag to represent their side, and poison it's image for the rest of us.
Fuck em. We'll make it ours again soon enough.
3
u/Martin0994 17h ago
We've already seen a turn when it comes to how people see/approach a Canadian flag after the convoy. No reason why we can't do that again.

u/SyrupVeins 10h ago
My grandma moved to Alberta from Ontario and is staying in long-term care due to physical ailments. She’s been in Alberta for about 6 months and has voted to remain.
It makes me happy knowing that would cause a separatist to go in a tailspin.

JK that's awesome, thanks Grandma.

We moved here two years ago. We've been fortunate to live in a few different places across this great country and so far Edmonton has been simply fantastic! The rally tonight was the perfect combination of Edmonton community spirit, Alberta pride and Canadian strength.

I advance voted yesterday, was very encouraged by the long lineup. Lots of younger people too.

I drove by this last night and saw two guys in big pickup trucks blowing black smoke and causing a ruckus just outside the EXPO Centre.

Does anyone have pictures of any of the separatists rallies? Please post. I'm curious to see what the turn out is like?
•
u/vyvanseandvodka 31m ago
My employers have been hassling all the staff to vote or to leave work to go to the closest polling station asap. So no excuses to not go.

Hope we don't end up with a whole Martin for class president situation going on.
•
u/geogirl83 10h ago
Sadly, I’m worried that this election will not shut up the seppies but only make them bark louder.

What we really need is a solution to this problem. I'd suggest work camps up in the Yukon, and we just deport the traitors there, permanently. Flag anyone who votes for separation and send them off.

u/Benromaniac 21h ago
Social media systems are troubleshooting their way through various growth/capture strategies in order to divide everyone. It’s the nature of CRM/Algos to do this, and it’s proven to work long term.
We can try to find human ways to work around it, but it still cannot be dismissed.
•
u/ukrinsky555 10h ago
Seriously zoom in and count the white top boomers. Who will attend these when they are gone in 10 years?
•
u/Fun_universe 8h ago
There were actually a lot of people 30-50 at this event! Lots of boomers too but lots of younger folks I promise haha
•
u/LumpyMcKwiz 6h ago
That's a lot of white hair in that crowd.
•
u/Fun_universe 6h ago
And??
•
u/LumpyMcKwiz 6h ago
The Elbows Up crowd out in force does not represent the voter base. All of this is for nothing, The Separate question will be lucky to hit 20%
•
u/Fun_universe 6h ago
I know, option 1 will easily win. I don’t see how that means “all of this is for nothing” 🤷🏻♀️
-12
u/Dodsy_84 19h ago
That's a lot of boomers
13
u/Alberta_Flyfisher 19h ago
Admittedly there were A LOT of seniors there. To be expected, they are the biggest voting block there is.
But you would be surprised. There were plenty of people in all age ranges. In fact I was a little surprised to see as much youth as I did. These things arent normally high in the list to attend at that age.
Great turnout and plenty of energy (even the old folk were into it)
Sad to see a few people tossed for trying to make a scene, but thats also to be expected at events like this.

u/ReplaceMeZaddy 19h ago
it's so nice to get the retirees out of the old folks homes for a nice rah rah ladder pulling up sesh
-22
u/vVengencev 19h ago
Bunch of grey haired retirees, the same elbows up crowd who continue to say fuck you to our future generations
5
u/MZillacraft3000 Ellerslie 18h ago
There was a lot of people, not just elderly people.
SOURCE: I was there in the front floor row.
6
u/Salt_Band_9528 19h ago
You’re a moron. There were people from all demographics there. Including a small handful seperatits waving their Alberta flags outside.
1
u/MZillacraft3000 Ellerslie 18h ago
Pretty sure two separatists got in. I mean, there was that one person who got kicked out for yelling something at Carney and another wearing a hat that says something about Carney.
1
u/Fun_universe 19h ago
I don’t like boomers either but glad they are voting to remain in Canada at least!

The fact that elections ab expects 80% turnout for the referendum is amazing. The only chance that leave had was hoping for a low turnout which they could saturate with their votes
