DEVON LEVI started playing goal relatively late in life.

Found this in his wiki page tonight

"Levi began by playing street hockey with his father, and until he was 11 years old, his only experience in goal was on concrete."

Goalie is incredibly expensive. Many families can’t afford to have to buy goalie equipment every year while a kid is growing.

That’s a big part of it for sure, the gear costs are insane. My cousin’s kid wanted to try net and they ended up getting most of it secondhand, still ran them a fortune

I went to goalie camps/summer training camps and had rented gear. When the time came to buy my first set of gear, while in the store in front of pads, my step-dad looked at me and said “are you sure you don’t want to score a goal?”
Well yeah of course I did. As a goalie. Went on to play forward/centre next 10 years. Had a lot of fun scoring goals and pointed at him in the stands after every goal I scored.

Touching and your step dad didn’t have to remortgage the house. Win win.

True. My niece is a goalie in AA hockey. So much more expensive than my other niece that plays forward in A.

I was a goalie for a while when I was a kid, but it was only because the Minor Hockey association had a locker of pads for us to use. Although it meant I used to show up an hour early so I could get the pads I wanted. There was a really nice set of newer, more lightweight (for the 90s) pads that we would all fight over.

One criticism I've heard of Canadian goalie development is we specialize too early vs the Europeans.

The skills you need as a small child aren't the skills you need as an adult.

hockey in quebec is super expensive, my kids are most likely only gonna get to play dek-hockey or just non-competitive

I never want to hear or read the words “relatively late in life” and “11 years old” in the same connotation again 😂😂😂 even if it’s late for a goalie to start

I'll be honestly i thought about that myself and couldn't come up with a better phrase but it seems rather funny doesn't it
