Bouchard at 14 points is just filthy

He is just sooo freaking good. Itās not even the offence (which is all world). Itās his D.
His defence / denying the zone / stick checks / physical play / positional play / board work, both zone keeps and forcing forwards into errorsā¦
It is just unreal. 16 EV GF, 2 EV GA.
Six games into 26/27, Evan Bouchard is + 14, 6G, 8A, 14P, and 89% EV GF.
Early days, but this start is historic.

They really needed the hard ass coach apprently
2
u/v13ragnarok7 3d ago
Honestly, coaching is a big part of this. They are getting pushed to be their best, and their best is VERY good.

I guess the only question is, how sustainable is it if that's the case. Season just started, if the team gets burnt out closer to playoff, it might backfire no?

How did we lose to the Canucks in the 1st game!

Something about playing the canucks brings out the worst and best in the oilers.

working out the kinks in a new system with a bunch of key players out with injury might be my guess

Because weāre the best team in the league, weāre just letting everyone else get a head start duh

I get the joke but Jarry let in several awful goals in short order. Probably why he lost the starter spot.

Save Nuge and Hyman for playoffs.

u/CartoonistFlat3943 3d ago
Nuge needs to pass Lowe as most Oilersā games. Then put him in bubble wrap all you want.

What happens to the league if the oilers never lose in the regulation time?
18
u/absboodoo 3d ago
Bettman will personally jump into the rink and forces a 6 on 5 in every single oilers playoff game

u/CartoonistFlat3943 3d ago edited 3d ago
Bettman will require the ice to be removed in āOilers shoot twiceā end of Rogers and then declares that end āOilers shoot thrice.ā

u/kjinternational 3d ago
He will jump on the ice and dance like Rumpelstiltskin to distract the squad.

What is different this year?
We have the same core guys
Babcock?
New goalie(sss)?
3
u/KingDave46 34 HAND 3d ago
Honestly I think exactly what McDrai said when they defended hiring Babcock. People buying-in from day 1 and accountability
I donāt think Iāve seen a single shift where Iāve been able to point to a guy half-assing it. Weāre missing so many dudes to injury but havenāt missed a step cause every guy top to bottom seems to be ready to play every shift so far

Oh FFS!!! Now youāve gone and cursed it!!! Itās ok to think these things, but for the love all that is holy, donāt say it out loud!!!

This scares me. Oilers with a hot start end up playing like shit in the final half of the seasonā¦

We also have the lowest depth in the league right now
3
u/CartoonistFlat3943 3d ago edited 3d ago
Take out the first two games, and I would argue (1.25 GAA) we have the best defensive depth in the league, especially for a team missing an entire second line and a Stanley Cup Champion goalie.
Do you think that 18,93,22 will make the team worse when they come back? Now aināt the time to worry about depth.
Our Oilers glass should be half full - or more.
Edit - update GAA.
