Networking opportunities+ getting hired through the conference?
I'm about to attend an EAG conference in Melbourne in the next couple of months, and given I've never been to one, I'm wondering how realistic it might be that I'll made good and relevant connections? I have recently quit my job and I'm now looking to pivot into sustainability, ideally in a government/think thank/NGO sector. That said, I am open-minded and curious about other problems that might be more worth my attention. Keen to hear from people who have been to the conferences, what was your experience like? Have you made meaningful connections, and have any of them eventually led to employment?

Spend some hours going through the attendee list and reach out to people for 1:1s. Try to be specific of whit people why you think meeting them in particular would be interesting for you, them, or both. Schedule in some breaks as well. It’s an intense way to network. Also, recommend people you meet to each other if you think it’s relevant, and feel free to ask people you meet if there are anyone else they think you should meet.

Do lots of 1:1s. You’re unlikely to straight up get a job offer. But if you put yourself out there for volunteering or doing side projects etc you’ll get chances to build a track record and trust etc, which can convert into jobs
