As an elder emo,

Home Like No Place Is There fits so perfectly into the genre. What an amazing album.

Lost my cat about 2 months ago. I was closer to that animal than almost any human I’ve met. Had to pause my project I was working on for my mental health while still going to school acting like everything’s completely fine.

I listened to that freaking album on repeat and cried for days. Put it on getting ready for the day, put it on before bed, put it on while moving her stuff out of my room, etc.

Still haven’t completely coped with it and I can’t put it on without crying, but that album is like an auditory embodiment of how it felt and it’s one of my favorites for that reason

Wild to me that loving Hotelier would define someone as an elder emo. That must make me a senior emo? Or a one foot in the grave emo?

I think you’re misreading what I implied.

THOUGH I’m and elder emo (I graduate HS in the early 2000’s) HNLPIT fits perfectly into the genre I grew up listening to as if it were created alongside of them as opposed to almost two decades later

At 45 I prefer Woodson and four minute mile

Genuinely a case for it as a top 5 all time emo album

man i slept on the hotelier for soooo god damn long. they were just okay. if they came on i wouldn't turn it off. it was not my thing

then 2026 happened. your deep rest comes on almost daily. i spin home like no place at least once a week. i hate that old me did not appreciate them for over a decade.

Exactly how I felt. They came on a couple of times on my Spotify Daily Mix and was meh about them.

Was seeing Foxing and they were touring with them. Gave Home another chance and after a couple of times it clicked and love them now

I still kick myself for not seeing them tour sometime in 2016-17 when they were in town opening for Jimmy Eat World. I’ve gotten to see them since, but so soon after Goodness would’ve been a dream

I only got my copy a couple years ago and it wasn’t until earlier this year that I fell absolutely in love with it. Dendron lives in my head daily.

I had the chance to see them live this year at a relatively small venue. It was wonderful.

The end of Dendron is sooooo good.

Still everyone sleeps on how great Clarity is, or it’s such a given that no one talks about it

My fav album of all time.

Not even being argumentative but who sleeps on that likes emo music? It's always considered one of the best emo albums of all time. Saying it's slept on is like saying Through Being Cool or Something to Write Home About are slept on

Old head here. Can someone explain the difference between My Hotel Year, The Hotel Year, and The Hotelier ? I remember My Hotel Year from back in the day....I still have the composition of ending and phrasing on CD.

Two different bands. I also have My Hotel Year’s album on CD but haven’t listened to it in a while

1

u/liamjonas 20h ago

I listed 3 bands though

The Hotel Year and The Hotelier are the same band.

1

u/EliThackerTaylor 20h ago

Yeah, they changed their name from The Hotel Year to The Hotelier because it was too similar to My Hotel Year.

I think I still have my Tell All Your Friends cd somewhere. 16 year old me couldn't get enough.

Great collection! I'd love to get a few of those CDs myself one day :)

I remember getting Tell All Your Friends the day it came out. I felt so cool. I still do too though

I hated that something to write home digipack because I stood on it, broke the little things in the middle and the cd forever fell out. That packaging was the worst.

2

u/EliThackerTaylor 23h ago

Same with my copy above. I’ve been meaning to pick up 2009 edition with the DVD for a while.

2

u/liamjonas 20h ago

I think there's a Vagrant 25th anniversary edition too from a couple years ago

2

u/greg0rb 8h ago

Welp I think standing on any digipak or any physical media for that matter is not the artist’s fault… 🤦‍♂️

1

u/motherofshorkie 8h ago

Not the artists fault but I just always hated that packaging, it broke easily and if it was well loved the spine and edges would look all crappy like an old book. Not designed for messy adhd teenagers. Thanks to streaming, all media is now safe from my clumsiness.

What is wrong with wanting something you love to look like it was well loved?
