Wanted to show off some interesting results I’ve been getting with PS2 emulation on iOS. In the video: no JIT, and it hits up to 40 fps. The crazy part is that this is running on an iPhone 12 mini. On flagship devices things are obviously way better.
Just for comparison: the alternative with JIT doesn’t even reach half of this performance, and without JIT you’d be lucky to get 5 fps.
Sure, you won’t play long on a mini, but that’s not the point. If the mini can push this kind of framerate, it means on top-tier iPhones and iPads the emulator won’t drain the battery or run the CPU at full blast. That’s roughly 3x the playtime.
Am I saying a 18 Pro Max has any trouble with resources? No. But the fact that the App Store alternative gets 10 fps while my core can do 40 — that’s what I think is really cool.
Still in development, but it’s coming soon as a new module for the NAGORI emulator.
