I live and fish near here. As mentioned in the video one of the most biodiverse areas in North America. You can no longer really trust eating the fish in this area. I catch and release. What I grew up catching as a child 20 years ago and the beautiful/ colorful fish have turned odd colors, disfigured, and growing odd. There are also dolphins turning up dead and washed up on shore.
This area is also 80%+ Hispanic in Deep South Texas. Our government and community sold us out. We do not know the long term health effects, carcinogens, cancers etc from these repeated exposures in this densely populated area.
Texas has deregulated and turns a blind eye to the industries setting up here.
Not necessarily related to ecosystem but to also call out that US federal agents last year stormed a Mexico beach I guess assuming it was America before a launch to clear it out. (Link)

2nd most anticipated obituary in history... he's trying really hard to compete to be number 1 though.

SpaceX is the only reason the US is the most dominant nation in the space industry.

u/Loves-Me-Not- 4d ago
Huh, didn’t realize nasa didn’t exist in magaland.

u/StationFriendly2458 4d ago
Since 2020 NASA has about 20 launches compared to SpaceX 500+ launches
2
u/RobonianBattlebot 3d ago
Because the funded for NASA was diverted to SpaceX and Musk, America's best example of an "Illegal immigrant welfare queen"
Ironic, huh?

u/StationFriendly2458 3d ago
You’re making things up due to of your lack of knowledge. In 2025 NASA received $35 billion in funding. SpaceX received about $4 billion in federal contracts for launch services provided to the federal government

One thing is for sure. Him and any other right-wing douche will promise people all sorts of shiny things, but will never deliver. Only worsen before moving onto the next target.
They are parasites, claiming, devouring, destroying everything good and moving onto the next host mindlessly. They produce nothing, improve nothing. Never give them an inch.

u/aminok 3d ago
Socialists are completely useless parasites. Everything they accuse so-called right-wingers of is what they themselves are.

u/Sea-Hat-8515 1d ago
You coming in here going off relentlessly about socialism in an environmentalist subreddit reads as pretty unhinged

This is why he moved to Texas. Because the state is not going to take the side of its citizens in a dispute like this.

Talk about a loud neighbor. At least you get to watch a rocket launch for that one time it's interesting and not just a regular life annoyance due to excessive noise. Is there no daytime noise ordinance for stuff like this in proximity to residential areas? Of course not when money's involved I suppose.

What everyone can hope for is for Elon takes a one way trip to Mars . He can declare himself King of Mars . It doesn’t matter as long as he’s gone from Earth .

The best thing that can happen is for everyone who works at SpaceX and Tesla to strike, or otherwise quit. The next best thing is for everyone signing the Change petition to run for office in order to regulate TF out of the N*zi.
Short of that, the exploitation will continue.

Just as I thought, you change the subject because you know how absurd it is the cult that labels everything a disability and is diagnosed with every mental illness to be insinuating that others are dysgenic.
1
u/0CT0L0G1ST 2d ago
“Change the subject” there was no subject to change??? we’ve just been tossing insults at each other lmao
You can’t possibly think that anything you’ve said has any real substance to it, can you?

My comment is fully legal, like gassing the public with toxic turbines or not paying taxes.

I didn't say it wasn't legal. I said it's a product of a hate cult. Your next comment is the same, a product of the hate cult.

Butterflies and birds are splendid. Dont ruin Louisiana wetlands.

This clutching of pearls about Louisiana's wetlands, just because you see it as an opportunity to stick it to the hate cult's latest boogeyman, shows that socialists are not serious people.

Elon is this like one of your many alt accounts? Its unbecoming.

Best wishes for your exploration Elon.

Curious to know if the businesses on South Padre Island are having similar experiences as these folks. At the closest end of it, there are a few of resorts, as well as a Holiday Inn and a handful of restaurants to name some.

A powerful rocket isn’t all you need to get people to Mars. All the Elon fan boys actually believe this bs bait n switch. Manned missions are fifty to a hundred years away. No, there must be some other reason…

Not to mention the wildlife refuge??? wtf. That is the opposite of “refuge” that is hell for wildlife.

well, i am not a fan of musk or whatnot, but I think space exploration is a worthwhile long term pursuit. I would like to see more nasa funding and not less. How tesla has managed to survive and now spacex baffles me, it would seem to me that these companies cannot justify their massive valuations.
But in any case, it would be nice to have people championing private space investment who weren't musk. But is it even worth it? if a rocket destroys homes and habitats 20 or more miles away what is the solution? Should we have launchpads in remote idaho or wyoming? it's hard to imagine that at the least.
I just am curious as to hear what is the better way to do this.
1
u/aminok 3d ago
This is a carefully crafted narrative because Elon Musk spoke out against the Democrats. The environmental damage that a launch site does isn't even a fleck of dust relative to what human industry does on Earth. If anything, space exploration holds a promise to outsource almost all industry off of Earth. But these selfish parasites only care about one thing, which is to destroy anyone who speaks out against socialism and the parties that advance it.

O sweety that the whole world. Just sometimes it's in the air sometimes the water.
No one making billions is doing so without hurting a fly. Let's face it devastating on an entire ecosystem.
Tax and penalize companies into oblivion if they are not helping customers or the world. Hell loosen regulations in the slightest and they start poisoning the food immediately.
Down with mega corps.
We need to draw the line somewhere.
Judge dread, cyberpunk, it's happening right after they're done, installing their AI powered surveillance state.
Funny part is republicans were the ones who warned about all of this First and not they're the ones doing it and loving every second till it touches them.

And how are you going to stop Chinese industry? China's trying to create its own SpaceX. You'd prefer the U.S. lose its lead to China on rocket launches? Just the massive short-sightedness of the people who embrace socialism is what shocks me. Like, they have no understanding how the global economy works. And they have no conception of what the world would be like for them if the PRC was the dominant government on Earth.

What’s odd? Is that Kennedy space Center has a lot of wildlife around it, including endangered species like bald eagles.
Wildlife really loves when people don’t live nearby.
I will admit that testing up until flight 11 regularly involved explosions resulting in metal debris, and IFT1 Sure did leave a lot of concrete lying around.
But since flight 2, there hasn’t been a RUD at the launch site.
I hate Elon. He’s a K’d up edgelord and this whole ai thing might tank an otherwise great rocket company.
Don’t let that distract you from the good work being done out there

Maybe we could have concentrated our country’s space launch infrastructure in one place to mitigate ecological and human population concerns. But that would require not letting billionaires dictate policy.

u/HumanautPassenger 4d ago
I get the environmentalism part but the earthquake part.......all the shuttle/rocket launches NASA ever did caused bldgs to shake on liftoff and on re entry. It's nothing new.

Who on earth thought that Elon was going to be careful?
He bought his right to be there and he’ll just buy his way out of any lawsuits or code violations.

Elon said he plans to invest in Louisiana and have 30 launches a day. 😂 Enjoy it Louisiana.

I must stress that yes Elon is just awful but don’t let this put you off space as space can be a key part of helping the environment. People like Elon I worry will put people off it like how nukes and corner cutting put people off nuclear power.

I’ve been to Cape Canaveral. You knew what was there when you built that house. Not a fan of Musk anymore, but this is silly.
Edit: You can downvote all you like, but the launch pads are FAR from everything around. They make a LOT of noise when they are used. They just put them to use far more often than ever before. The area has been reserved for this activity longer than most of you have been alive. Should have been NASA scientists doing it, but here we are.

What a silly, nigh shitty, take.
The city of Brownsville (where SpaceX is based out of) was around far longer than Musk was, as were many of the people living there; what's more, it's got a pretty high degree of poverty. Saying "just don't live there" simply takes the responsibility off of Musk creating a disruptive industry, and instead attempts to put it on the subset of the population literally least likely to be able to not live there.
It is ignorant of the bigger picture, and suggests you're unfortunately falling for some falsehoods.
