You have one chance to introduce someone to Evanescence. What song are you playing for them? I'm choosing All That I'm Living For.
I'm curious what tracks you guys think represent Evanescence well, and what tracks you think can be appreciated by people who don't know them.
I think All That I'm Living For features aspects present in much of Evanescence's repertoire—heavy guitars and hard rock, strong vocals (including mixed chest belts), some electronic elements, and strings—while being a pretty hard song that hard rockers and headbangers alike can get behind.
What songs would you play for someone if you were trying to get them to like Evanescence?

I’ll start them like we all got to. Bring me to life. If I can watch them premiere live on vh1 and mtv, then someone new can start there too. Then tell them all of their stuff is amazing and their newest album is heavier and pretty incredible.

BMTL is the only answer. It ain't my favourite Ev song, probably not even Top 5, but it's elite-tier and to anyone who might not have heard of Evanescence before has to be the introduction to the story.

I like it. I steered clear of BMTL only because someone might think they have a male backup vocalist. It actually took me a little while to realize that only happened on one song.

I see. That’s something you mention when speaking to a newbie. Even tell the story about how he was forced on them because they didn’t want a female lead solo singing.

that's why you play either the demo or the bliss mix as they're superior to the album version.

I was not a fan of bring me back to life. I didn't get into evanescence until later because of that song. The rapping dude completely turned me off. I thought it was super cringe. I use to make fun of it because the dude felt so out of place. I hate the fact that it's their most popular song because so much of her music is way better than that. But I guess it works on the normies or maybe guys who are hesitant to listen to female artists.

Maybe Your Star. I feel it should be something that represents a little of everything. I think Sanctuary would also be a good choice.

maybe i am just biased, but whisper. heavy opening, choir, catchy chorus, amazing solo, chanting ending, simple but nice lyrics. kind of encompassing all the albums to me

Imaginary, Haunted, Tell Me When You’ve Had Enough, better without you, the rapture, the change, your star, made of stone (should have been the lead single)
They have so many songs in their catalogue just underutilized!

If I can only choose one it would be Sweet Sacrifice. It goes hard while still showing off the beauty and power of her voice.

I think I’m going:
- Tourniquet
- Bring Me To Life
- Rapture

Ooh.. probably either BMTL or My Immortal, but that’s just because MI has its hooks in me and always has.

I feel like Who Will You Follow represents them perfectly. It showcases the soft ballady part of the band in the first few seconds of the song, and also shows the heavier moments as well.

This song is amazing! I think it could totally get modern rockers into Evanescence

Oceans every time. I have an “Intro to Evanescence” for the people who get in my car and make the mistake of saying “are they the ones who did that wake me up one?”

this really depends on what the person is into! my partner didn't know about ev3 so the first one I showed him was Made of Stone and he loves it. later from TBT our special song is FFH. my sister for example is a romantic soul so my immortal would be the right answer. people who love experimental would be perfect target for calm down / self destruct IMO. sooo many options really

My favorites that I've seen that would make a great playlist for someone who's new but doesn't want to/doesn't have the time to listen to all their stuff:
What You Want Rapture Imaginary Your Star All That I'm Living For

Bring me to life first and then Who Will You Follow second. That way they get the gist that after all these years, Amy still knows how to make banger songs

I'd go with my last breath from fallen, the only one from TOD, oceans from Ev2011, Far from heaven from TBT and Rapture from Sanctuary

Tourniquet. I'm staying away from the mainstream stuff until the end.

Like You because it has both a softer side with piano and ends on a big full band chorus. Best of both worlds from Evanescence

I got my now husband (then boyfriend) into them back in high school! This was back in 2005 lol but I got him with Anywhere haha, I sang it for the school talent show and he asked what band it was so I made him a mixed cd of all the songs I thought he’d like. He ended up coming to the Boston show for the open door tour the next year, we had such a good time!!
