Hi. I am new. I have a brief question. Among modern church worshipers there seems to be a common characteristic. They raise their arms high during the worship/praise music, and yet they *don't* raise their arms during the message and reading of Bible scripture passages. Why is that? Why don't they raise their arms the whole time?

"Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have." - 1 Peter 3:15
Hey guys,
Quick background story: At 18, a chronic pain condition blew up the life I had planned. I tried every doctor, too many drugs, and years of depression and found no relief from my 24/7 agony. Because it was stripped from me at such an important age/time of my life, I was convinced that my health was the only thing standing between me and happiness. After 7 years, through discipline and a strict recovery routine, I clawed back a good part of that health, but the happiness I'd been waiting for never showed up and the emptiness I'd blamed on being in pain was still there. That was when I realized the problem ran deeper than my body.
I started following Jesus before I fully believed and let my faith grow out of obedience. The chronic pain is still with me but it is quieter now and I've learned that God doesn't waste suffering...He redeems it ... and that's why I want to help others share the hope that changed my life. He redeems it, and I've seen Him do it in my own life, and my only regret is not turning to Christ sooner!
I've felt called to share my story and the good news of the Gospel for a while now, but reciting verses and explaining my complicated past without trauma dumping never came easy to me. When you're talking with someone whose heart may be just slightly open (like family members who had long written off Christianity), you might only get one good shot at getting the message across, and I always wanted to be ready for those moments. Scripture is the foundation but I wanted a way to actually practice: to rehearse those real conversations and find the right words and build confidence.
I don't mean to plug myself here, but I'm really excited about this!! I built Gospel Quest to help with this exact problem, it's brand new on the App Store, and I'd love to get feedback from as many people as possible :)
I made it as gamified as I could, so it's a fun place to come back to and sharpen your evangelism skills. I like to think of it as Animal Crossing meets Duolingo meets Bible study lol

Hi everyone,
I’m an independent journalist from the Netherlands, currently producing a video report about healing evangelists and people who believe they have been given the spiritual gift of healing.
I would like to speak with people who have direct experience with faith healing. Perhaps you believe you were healed during a service or through prayer, have attended healing services, practise healing prayer yourself, or simply know more about how this works within Christianity.
I’m hoping to conduct a recorded online interview that may be used in the video report. If preferred, you can remain anonymous, and your identity can be concealed in the final video.
My aim is to understand these experiences and the beliefs surrounding them directly from the people involved. I’m approaching the subject with genuine curiosity and respect.
If you are open to having a conversation, or know someone who might be, please leave a comment or send me a private message.
Thank you!

I ran across the following doctrinal statement from a church: "That all Christians have the ministry of reconciliation and are called to share the life of Christ, living it as well as speaking it. (Col. 1:10-14; 2 Cor. 5:18-20; 2 Cor. 7:1; Matt. 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-16)"
Can someone please explain their interpretation of what precisely is meant here by "the ministry of reconciliation"? This statement confuses me.

Help! 18 Year Old Struggling with Family Relationships
I am so upset over my home life. For context, I am an 18 year old. But when I was 14 I started struggling with self harm. I told my parents about it, but in these past 4 years they have never once loved me enough to have a difficult conversation about it.
They "love" me but only when I am fun and easy to be around. But the thing is I'm only human and I get tired and sad and angry and I have off days and I have character flaws and I make mistakes and I fall short and I have a bad attitude sometimes. I feel like as soon as I fail to "have a good attitude" for one little second they react as though I have done some terrible thing.
Spending dinnertime with my family is the worst part of my day everyday. I hate feeling like I have to pretend and preform. I count down the seconds untill I can run away to be alone in my room where I can have a bad attitude all I want and no one will shame me for it.
I feel like they don't actually love me, they just love what I can give them. Their love is so conditional, when they dont get what they want they dont want me anymore.
I'm working very hard to invest in my future, but I won't be financially secure enough to move out for another year or so. I'm hating my life so much right now. I literally just went to the bathroom during dinnertime and cried out to Jesus asking him to save me from this suffering. Please pray for me and send me words and Bible verse of comfort. 🙏🩷

I have been reading this book - or rather listening to it on Spotify audio. To be honest I have always struggled a bit with the idea of hell as we are taught it. I have put the link to the book on Amazon above.
But this guy is a Jewish scholar and he throws a completely different light on it. He argues that the idea of eternal conscious torment as preached by Calvinist and most evangelical churches is a long way from what the original Jewish Christians ever believed. He says that we have failed to understand the Jewish Bible and its culture.
Another factoid that interested me was that this guy shows that most Christians even upto the 4the century did not believe in eternal conscious torment either. We got that idea frol Augustine of Hippo and later Calvin. Luther never challenged any of it, and here we are - centuries later with the wrong end of the stick.
If you want to listen it is on Spotify for free if you have the usual subscription.
This guy is also a pretty dedicated messianic Jew doing a lot of work to evangelise Jews in Israel.
Has anyone else read this?

I would like to understand why when arguing for salvation by atonement, people cite the letters of Paul a lot, but they do not seem to take into consideration what Jesus himself says about the subject (e.g. Matthew 25 and the sermon on the mount). Why is that?

This is simply so I can gather a general sense of what the Reformed tend to think about how Luther taught on Justification. I am not in for a debate, but would humbly ask your thoughts. Please no googling; just your thoughts and opinions as it stands. I simply need a general synopsis of what you believe that Luther taught on justification. This is for a school project. Thank you for your time, and God bless
