AI Expectation Pants From SHEIN
It’s so ugly 😭

I had a coworker one time who said she "spent 500 on shein for a new fall wardrobe."
I said "aren't most of sheins stuff complete garbage?"
She said "that's why I buy a lot. At least half of it has to be good."
People are so lost in the sauce. If you have 500 to spend, why not just go to the mall, try on clothes, and buy what you actually like and fits? And in the meantime you can check the quality...

u/Embarrassed_Key_4539 Sep 04 '26
And think about the environmental impacts of this behavior ugh I just hate where things have gone with society

u/Junior_Response839 Sep 04 '26
That had to be a ton of clothes too, shein sells shit for 2-10$. And to think she just threw half of it out (or probably more) OR donated it to a Thrift shop where it will rot for 10+ years until someone finally throws it away.
This is part of the reason why Thrift shops suck in this day and age too.

I'm guessing you haven't been to the mall lately. $500 would get you 2 pairs of pants and 4 shirts...
27
u/Mammoth_Classroom626 Sep 05 '26
Okay but you wouldn’t have to buy an entirely new wardrobe of clothes every autumn if it was normal quality lmao.
6 items of clothing in a season is more than most people buy. Then guess what next year those clothes will still exist and you can buy 6 more.
27
u/CowAggravating7745 Sep 04 '26
Which sucks, yes, but you also don’t need dozens of each article of clothing. People have gotten into this mindset where every day needs to be a fashion show of clothes they’ve never been seen in before. I’d rather have 6 good quality pieces than 47 SHEIN pieces that look like cheap garbage and can only be worn for one season before they fall apart.

One of my friends that I flatted w for ages would buy clothes online and not check measurements, they'd come too small and id get free clothes 😂. I joked that she actually shops for me/half my wardrobe she got me

u/newfaithlessn3ss Sep 04 '26
Not to mention how every single item that company produces is destined for the landfill. Such a blight on our environment.
64
u/Frondstherapydolls Sep 04 '26
NPR report said these fast fashion places can dole out 2000+ NEW designs a day. Completely unsustainable and so ugly.
21
u/DrKittyLovah Sep 04 '26
Yes, because they steal content from independent artists who cannot afford to fight them!
15
u/smcl2k Sep 04 '26
And from established designers and other companies who can afford to fight them but are just incapable of staying on top of the stream of shit.

Me. lmao I order pretty much exclusively from SheIn because I'm fat and broke in Japan, and they do not cater to my size here. You can find good quality clothes, or at least the same quality you'd get at the mall, as long as you actually read the material description and reviews.
452
u/RaeaSunshine Sep 04 '26
Also fat, and when I was living in Japan (pre-SHEIN), I had to buy a bath suit. I knew it would be bad, but it was SO much worse than I expected. I eventually found one from a brand called ‘Love Calories’ 😭
94
u/savageexplosive Sep 04 '26
Oh god this is so bad
222
u/RaeaSunshine Sep 04 '26
Tbf it was a very flattering bathing suit. And it was better than the time I was in South Korea for work and the airline lost my luggage. I had to put together a capsule wardrobe at the only plus size store called ‘Fat Cow Moo’. It’s been a long time so I might be projecting the Fat part, but it definitely had Cow and Moo in the name lol.

Omg! You have no idea how validating this is, for years my friends in the US have thought I was kidding or exaggerating. I’m 100% pulling this up on the big screen at game night tonight. Thank you!!
73
u/Venus-Smizing Sep 04 '26
'Love Calories' ?!?!?! What, was 'This Is All Due To Your Terrible, Gluttonous Life Choices, Porky McPorkface' already taken as a brand name?
40
u/RaeaSunshine Sep 04 '26
at least in China those stores have smiling cow mascots. Love Calories didn’t even give us that :(

I was in Thailand and found this store with beautiful sequined gowns. I am an 8/10 in the USA and when I asked if they had my size. They started digging in bins and came up with 2XL. I poured myself into it. LOL

I was traveling in Vietnam and had to buy underwear. I'm not sure how much I weighed at the time but I was in great shape and a healthy BMI, I was probably a US pant size 6. The retail workers laughed at me. I eventually bought some undies but they were too small.

First mistake is ordering from SHEIN, second mistake is not reading the reviews which will always out this kinda stuff

This is on you, dude. You don't know by now that they AI the shit out of their pictures? Stop supporting this shit.
332
u/crochetmypain Sep 04 '26
Please think about how they make those pants for you. The literal slave labour and chemicals used with little regulation should give you cause to reconsider if you need yet another pair of pants you'll wear one time.

For years now we've seen comments on reddit like "individual people shouldn't care about their carbon footprint because of oil companies and Taylor Swifts jet"
I'm CONVINCED that was all a guerilla campaign by companies to convince people it's fine to buy garbage like this
10
u/velvedire Sep 04 '26
Absolutely it is/was.
And it's not like any company exists just for the run of polluting. They pollute because customers pay them to.

Seriously, why should personal accountability out the window because corporations are bad? And also how do we think these corps are going away or bettering themselves when we all buy their shit regardless?

u/AnOutcastedAlgorithm Sep 04 '26

I tried to have this debate with my in-laws who tried to argue back with 'they earn more money than you think because of their currency being different' and 'we are in a cost of living too so we need cheap items'.
She also tried to say their working conditions aren't that bad and if we got rid of their jobs, they would just find others in similar factories. Yet she apparently doesn't agree with the wages being minimal. For some reason she thinks all the workers are well off.

u/flaffleboo Sep 04 '26
I’ve come to think the problem is that people don’t have a stable set of values that they’ve committed to.
I bought from shein once years ago. As soon as I learned about all of their unethical practices, I stopped buying from them. I told my family about it too. Only one of them stopped buying from there long term, but it seems she’s more concerned about the poor quality of the products than the way people are exploited to make them or the impact they have on the planet.
With the other family members, I’m now trying to approach it from an angle of “these clothes contain toxic chemicals that can harm you”. Not sure I’ll have any success though tbh.

Should rename this sub at this point. 95% of this sub is just people posting Family Dollar level quality products, with AI advertising. And the comments are 95% the same everytime, with the top comment being someone saying "you deserve this," as if most post aren't someone finding Temu listings and ripping the pictured reviews

The SHEIN and AI of it aside, people need to learn that you will never get embroidered, beaded or bedazzled anything for cheap. Particularly things like these jeans where the embroidery appears to be extensive. These are usually time intensive processes that result in expensive items.
6
u/abyssal-isopod86 Sep 04 '26
What did you think was going to happen?
The first image is either:
a) AI
Or
b) a stolen image of some clothing artists/designers entirely hand embroidered and appliqued jeans and you thought that's what you'd get for that price? 🤣
8
u/LitCockBumble Sep 05 '26
People who get scammed by this because they think hand embroidered pants are gonna be 20 bucks are legit stupid and deserve to have their money wasted.
7
6
u/Acceptable_Cut_7545 Sep 04 '26
Buy some jeans and learn to do embroidery, it's slow work but it's not hard.

All you need to do is get a nice pair of jeans, and learn how to do intricate embroidery and ribbon appliqué and beading by hand. It will only take several years to reach that skill level.

u/wolftick Sep 04 '26 edited Sep 04 '26
All the what did you expect comments have a point.
...But I always think with these AI generated product images that no reasonable selling platform that want people to buy from them would side with the seller with a return/refund not as described claim on this, and no seller would be willing to stomach the cost of actually having them returned as well as having to refund the purchase price.
If everyone who orders items that are nothing like AI generated image on the listing claims a refund this stops pretty quickly. I assume enough people don't bother that it still makes it worthwhile for sellers.

Do they even have real pockets? A coworker of mine showed us a pair she bought for her grand daughter and they had images of the pockets where the pockets should be, like photo realistic pockets 🤣😂

u/KenraScar Sep 04 '26
Idk what y’all are expecting. You’re not getting embroidered jeans from SHEIN.

u/ClearBlue_Grace Sep 04 '26
Slave labor clothes that end up in a landfill almost immediately. Stop buying this fast fashion crap and expecting high quality products, especially when it is clearly ai.

If you shop at Shein on purpose, knowing they do shit like this, you get what you deserve.

u/ultrablanca Sep 04 '26
People are being really high and mighty about them recognizing AI and the OP didn’t huh
Sorry you got swindled OP. I understand SHEIN is a lot more affordable than other options so people still buy from them, but try not to. Also, they host a marketplace of sellers so this item is probably not directly from SHEIN and from an independent seller that may already be removed and will probably try to set up a new shop to swindle new customers. Pay attention to the name of the sellers and shops from where items are coming from.
