Meme F1 25 Co Op Career Question

So my friend and I both got this game for free on the PS5 and have been having a blast playing with it. Trying to see who can successfully remove their assists the fastest while still finishing, etc.

Anyway the question is, my friend is the second player in our career and he has no contribution to the tech tree? Like the points HE earned in practice don't matter and he has no say in what gets upgraded. Is that normal or are we missing something? Its a lot less fun for him now that he knows his practice sessions don't matter.

We don't normally play racing games so maybe its something obvious, or just working as intended. Thanks you the help!

Are you running in one team or different? IIRC, when both players are in one team only first player has ability to decide what upgrades whole team will get. When you play in different teams both players have this available.

We wanted to do the same team since it was our first racing game in a long time. First f1 game for sure. We can do different teams next time I guess... Just thought it was odd that only one person contributed. I mean they actually still have an AI making some decisions on our team. Seems like those AI picks could have gone to him, ya know?
