Wanted to set up one of Wealthsimple's auto balancing accounts. Figured I'd ask what people thought of something simple like this before I go and fund it.

P.S. As someone who is also on r/justbuyxeqt, I think I showed a lot of restraint lol

37M - milestone on 15th year of corporate

So happy with some news that can’t be shared with anyone in real life. 700k after the market close feels surreal after basically working nonstop out of university 15 years ago. With about 100k in home equity and 100k in my cars, it truly feels like I’ve hit the target.

I grew up in a poor and frugal family, I don’t think I’ll ever shake off ingrained habits like analyzing prices on a menu and mass stocking up on groceries that are on sale. BUT I’m also looking forward to a new way of life and spending most of my leftover money after expenses and not feel bad or guilty about it!! (maybe starting January haha)

Deadline to Submit Claims on the Hut 8 $2.35M Settlement is in Two Months

Hey guys, if you missed it, Hut 8 has agreed to a $2.35M settlement with investors over claims that it misled investors about USBTC’s financial condition and the quality of key mining assets. The deadline to file a claim is December 5, 2026.

In a nutshell, investors accused Hut 8 of failing to disclose that USBTC was in much weaker financial condition than presented and that its King Mountain mining site had serious energy and internet issues.
After these issues came to light, $HUT dropped 23%, and investors filed a lawsuit for their losses.

Now, Hut 8 has agreed to a $2.35M settlement, and investors have until December 5, 2026 to submit a claim.

So, if you invested in $HUT at that time, you can check the details and file your claim here.
Anyway, has anyone here invested in $HUT? How much were your losses, if so?

How do we make the best of our position?

My partner[m32] and I [f33] are sitting around 1.1m when combining our finances, he also has 2 houses that are still being paid off. One with long term tenants and one with tenants until January when we will be moving into it together.

My partner takes home around 130k a year and is an extremely hard worker and great at saving money but I feel doesn’t exactly truly feel the importance of investments and compound interest.

He has 165k sitting in investments that he invests himself, the entire portfolio is up 2500 in 10 years lol.. he unfortunately invested a lot into weed stocks, didn’t pull out and is now constantly shifting back and forth between a net loss and a very small gain because he doesn’t want to cut his losses and move the money elsewhere in case America legalizes weed and they go back up. He also has 180k sitting in cash in his account. In his defence for that he had been planning on buying over 100k worth of shares from the company he works for but due to circumstances this year they’ve decided not to offer shares so now I’m really pushing on him that he has to find somewhere else to put that money.

On the other hand I take home around 40k a year at the moment building up a personal training business which is still building and scalable.
I got about a 100k inheritance at 19 that I’ve had a financial advisor manage since which has effectively doubled in 10 years and is now sitting at 230k between compound and me adding to it.

Our combined finances are:
180k - sitting in his chequing
160k - his own investment account (with essentially 0 return in 10 years)
336k - in his company shares
200k - in his RSP’s
230k - my investments
17k - in my chequing

Which puts us as at 1.1m, our FIRE number is around 2.6m which should be more than realistic at this point but currently 357k of that isn’t making any kind of compound interest which I know is hurting us big time long term. We’re on the fence about kids, leaning towards a no. At most we’d have one. If we don’t have kids our 10 year goal is to have him semi retire into some kind of hobby job while I scale my business up to enough we can continue to live off of since I like to work and he doesn’t. Since we haven’t moved yet I don’t currently know our monthly expenses but we’re both very frugal people, we love to travel but other than that we both game and like to stay home, don’t care about materialistic things.

I’m looking for advice on where to go from here? What would be the most effective place to move this money to keep working towards our future goals? Is him retiring in 10 years realistic if we make smarter moves with his money that’s currently not making any? At this point I’ve been pushing him to get a financial advisor to run his portfolio for him, I know there’s financially more responsible moves but even if he was paying 3-4% while making 10% we’d be in a much better place but I don’t know if that’s the best advice. He talks about buying another house but I’m also not convinced that’s the best place to put the money especially when he already has 2.

19M | If you were to start over with $10,000 to invest into a TFSA, how would you go about it?

Just getting into the realm of investing, and I’m looking for some solid advice on how to invest the first $10,000. The goal is to essentially build this portfolio long term.

I know what almost all of you are going to say…. XEQT. Totally understandable and definitely where I plan to invest majority of my first contribution. However, I am looking to invest into more than just one ETF.

Also interested in gaining some solid dividends that I can re-invest into my portfolio.

Looking for feedback on
- Endbridge (ENB.TO)
- Canadian Natural Resources Ltd (CNQ.TO)
- Physically Backed Gold
- NVidia Corp (NVDA)

Open to any recommendations / advice.

Hey guys, I’m 18 and building out my long-term strategy. Since I follow Islamic guidelines, I have to screen my investments to make sure they are Halal before buying in.

In short, I have to avoid companies that engage in:

  • Prohibited Sector Activities: Banks/credit providers (revenue from interest), alcohol, gambling, pork products, adult media, or defense/weapons.
  • Heavy Interest Reliance: Islamic financial standards (like AAOIFI) restrict companies whose total interest-bearing debt exceeds ~33% of their market value or whose interest earnings exceed 33% of their assets.
  • Speculative Instruments: Options, short-selling, and traditional bonds are impermissible due to high uncertainty or pure interest returns.

Instead of manually sorting through stocks, I use the Wealthsimple Halal portfolio (WSHR), which automatically manages my portfolio and handles all the halal screening for me.

25M in Canada making $80k in cybersecurity with $30k to start a business what would you do?

I’m 25M living in Canada, currently working as a cybersecurity consultant making around $80k a year. I also have one semester of school left before I finish my degree.

Financially, I’m in a ok position for my age:

$80k/year employment income

$50k invested in stocks

$30k in cash that I’m considering using to start a business or side hustle

Very low living expenses since I still live with my family. My only real expenses are related to my car.

My goal is to use this opportunity to build another source of income outside my 9–5 and eventually grow it into a legitimate business. Since I don’t have rent or many other major expenses, I feel like this is a good time to take calculated risks and invest in something with real potential before I eventually move out and have more financial responsibilities.

One idea I’ve been considering is buying and flipping cars through auctions. Buy them at auction, and resell them for a profit. However, I’m still researching how the process works in Canada and whether the margins are actually worth it after accounting for repairs, auction fees, taxes, and other costs.

I’m open to other ideas, too. Ideally, I’d like something I can start alongside my current job.

I’ve been focusing my new contributions to XEQT alone that’s why it’s relatively down compared to VFV.

Is Celestica Inc really that good?

Im checking on stockanalysis com's forecast from 22 analysts, the "low" is a +32,93% change in 1 year, is that actually doable for Celestica? The average analyst says to strong buy, is anyone buying TSX:CLS?

New to Investing with TD. Any help is much appreciated!!

Hey guys! I’m new to this group and investing in general, so please bear with me lol.
A little backstory: I grew up very poor and just turned 28. I’m really trying to become more financially responsible, build wealth, and give my children opportunities I didn’t have growing up.
I recently opened a TFSA and a family RESP through TD for my four children, who are all under five. I believe I selected the high-risk investment option for both accounts because I’m planning to leave the RESP invested for at least 13 years and my TFSA for at least 5+ years(unless there’s an emergency like my car breaking down bc I don’t finance vehicles).
Here’s where I’m a little lost…I don’t actually know how to start investing?

I’m not sure how to deposit money into my TFSA, whether TD automatically invests it for me, or if I’m supposed to be purchasing stocks, ETFs, or mutual funds myself.
Does anyone here invest through TD? I’d love to hear how you got started, what type of investment account you use, and whether you’d recommend TD’s managed investment options or something more self-directed.
I’m currently in school for accounting, and I’m really trying to educate myself about finances so I can eventually pass that knowledge down to my children. I was pretty much left to figure everything out on my own growing up, and I want to change that for the next generation.

I’m open to any advice, recommendations, or resources you guys think would be helpful!
Hope everyone’s having a great day! 🫶🏻

Hey everyone!

I’m 23, recently graduated university and just started investing.

I’m a firm believer in AI and tech being the future, hence why my portfolio leans heavily towards those sectors. I’m investing for the long term and plan to add more XEQT for diversification.

Would love some honest opinions on my portfolio. What would you change?

TFSA Portfolio

23M here, starting investing after I graduated university last year (would have liked to start earlier unfortunately but time in the market is the key hey?). I currently have an FHSA and TFSA. Planning to meet with financial advisor soon to discuss where I am at investment wise as I chose to manage both these accounts myself instead of having someone else do it for me (I wanted to learn about what goes into the investment of my money instead of letting someone else do the work). I invest small amounts ($100-$300 monthly) with occasional lump sum deposits as well.

In my Wealthsimple TFSA, I currently hold ZBAL, ZGRO, and a singular share of CASH.TO. I hold ZBAL for the moderate risk of it, I have seen some good returns with that. I began shifting my portfolio slightly more aggressively and also started holding ZGRO, my reasoning for this was the high bond percentage which has also given some excellent returns and I do want a little bit more volatility but I'm not comfortable with being extremely aggressive yet. 60% of my portfolio is now ZGRO and 37% is ZBAL.

I hold CASH.TO as it was the first ETF I was recommended to buy because of it's dividend yield but I haven't put any more than a solid $50 in it as I pivoted to focusing on my other holdings first.

My question is; am I on the right track? Am I doing anything wrong currently? I hear there is a lot of overlap between ZBAL and ZGRO so I am wondering if I need to cut down on shares of one of these and add something else to diversify.

Thanks!

48M w/$920k... can I FIRE?

I’m 48 and single. $920,000 in financial investments. No real estate, pension, or other assets.

My calculations are: investments grow 7% and withdrawals grow 2.5% each year. At 65, I add CPP & OAS and lower investment growth to 6%. My goal is to die with zero at 100.

What could I safely live on (for 50yrs) if I stopped working now?

My math says $48,000. Does that sound right?

I suppose most people here make this post when FIRE starts to look tangible, which is basically “can someone check my math?”

Finally reached it, but will cut in half just like that

Portfolio has crossed 1 mill in investments, its bittersweet though.

sweet because we finally reached it, but next month it will be cut in half, because we have to sell our TFSA'S and cash to put 500k down on a 4 bedroom multiplex unit.
