Picture Neighbor Complained I Wasn't Using My Flagpole
First time since buying my house I've actually used the flagpole. Neighbor kept complaining that I never put a flag up and the rope had rotted away. So I replaced the rope and flag clips. Next step is to make a metal mininuke to replace the ball on top.

19
u/SquashSquigglyShrimp May 06 '26
Was going to say, they're worried about a flagpole but not the neighbors driveway that looks like it was at the epicenter of an earthquake?
43
u/The_Autarch May 06 '26
was it a real complaint, or was your neighbor just like "why does your son in law have an ugly, decaying flagpole in their yard if they never use it? maybe they should just get rid of the eyesore."
37
u/dixonspy2394 Mr. House May 06 '26
He's been saying every year since he's moved in that he was gonna put up a flag since I don't use it.

When our busy body neighbor complains about our property at summer camp, we devise ways of pissing them off more. Example complaints: placement of a shed (the town's property inspector told us it was the only location acceptable), placement of tv antenna and small dish (i told them to look the other way), culvert under the road between our properties (they thought it was our responsibility to fix), condition of the unpaved road after we remodeled the camp (we paid for the entire road to be treated/serviced even though there are 7-8 responsible parties). It is pretty frustrating. I try to ignore them.

Haha well I have a fo4 nuka cola on my inner arm, vault boy riding a bomb near my shoulder, a platinum trophy near my wrist on the same arm, then a death claw on my right calf and a NCR ranger veteran on my left calf. Flag came in a bundle I bought from another collector I met through marketplace, but it's like $10 or $15 on amazon.

14
u/dixonspy2394 Mr. House May 06 '26
Its insane how many people will just come watch someone doing work in their own yard
6
u/atle95 May 06 '26
That's obnoxious, I appreciate places where you'd get shot for that
7
u/fondledbydolphins May 06 '26
Eh, often times it's not malicious at all.
We had to have a perc test run in a neighborhood like that. It was like no one's ever seen a backhoe dig a hole before.
There were 6 dudes just standing out there drinking beer:
- watching a backhoe dig a big hole
- watching a dude fill the hole with a hose
- watching the water slowly drain from the hole
I see it as less of a nosy neighbor situation, more of a "Oh... humans are just animals and this is the zoo they live in" type of deal.
Animals at the zoo do the same damn thing when you do work in or near their enclosure haha

I have one hanging in my bedroom in a not-California state. Stereotypical close-minded "dont California my Nevada" is rampant here so I'm little afraid for my property if I hang it outside because people aren't the brightest lol.

Between castle doctrine and 2a protection in this state...people tend not to do things to or on other's property here. Never know who's packing around here.

Don’t even need an HOA. I live about 15 miles from a town and get hassled by neighbors.
One common one are people mad about the lot next door that I don’t own. I mow it to help out the people that do own it, but people come to my house to complain, even after I explain that I’m just being a nice neighbor. Even then, they criticize me too.
The other is about our yard. Four years ago, my mom died when she was thrown off a mower and run over by it. Mowing became a less enjoyable chore, so I started leaving the back half alone because we’re never there, it creates a habitat for things we like, and most importantly, because I don’t want to. My spouse got the brunt of it and she’s too polite to make them feel as awkward as they should feel, especially when half the point of living rurally is to be left alone.

Right? My brother and I looked up lawn mower deaths and they are SUPER rare. We were all dumbfounded. I had just visited the weekend before and she was in fine health and doing great with her recovery. When her husband called me to tell me, I assumed I had left a phone charger or something

u/AnAdventurer5 May 06 '26
Maybe there's a more reasonable reason they're in the area, but I can't help but imagine people either driving 15 minutes to your house specifically to complain, or stopping in the middle of traveling just to knock on your door and whine a bit.
Also I'm sorry about your mom 🫂I live in a hilly area, and I basically refuse to mow over any sort of incline, that's too scary to me.
5
u/optigon May 06 '26
The people who complain are closer to me than the towns. I mostly emphasized the being away from town to illustrate that we’re nowhere near an HOA would normally be. Like, we’re not in a suburb or something.
We live on a lake with a small beach maintained by a nonprofit who owns the lot next door. They have absolutely no money and so everyone is just sort of volunteering what time they have. Meanwhile others in the area complain that the lot the free beach is on doesn’t look like a golf course. It’s stupid. The nonorofit always invites them to join the board and contribute, but they never do.
Thanks about my mom. It really sucked. For her, we have generally settled on the idea that she likely had a medical event, if anything to save us the worry that she suffered. She was on the end part of recovering from hip replacement surgery and was riding toward an embankment on a zero-turn mower. She had her seatbelt off, which was unusual for her, and when she hit the embankment, it threw her off and the mower rolled over her.
My belief is that she had a blood clot from the implant that hit her, she may have noticed something was wrong, unbuckled, but fell forward on the handles, sending it full-tilt toward the bank.
I say that just to clarify that it was likely not something that would happen to others, though it is very important to be careful, of course.

😂 that's hilarious. Githyanki is one of the few races I haven't played as in bg3.
10
u/yamirenamon May 06 '26
I loved playing as a gith. The race specific dialogue options were great especially since it’s one of the rare times you don’t have a history in the city when you reach act 3. At one point you can tell an npc “Do I look like I’m from around here?”

When we first moved in, the previous owner left a badly faded American flag on a porch mounting.
We were literally in the middle of moving in, and the neighbors down the street marched up to my wife and i, didn't introduce themselves and started telling us off about our lack of flag etiquette. We had words and they left in a huff. Our next door neighboors walked up, introduced themselves, gave us a bottle of wine and with a smile, the wife said, "We see you've met the ahole and c*nt."
We're still friends to this day. 😄
