Hi hi hi!

We’re really glad you found us :)

If you’re new here, this will help you get started. And if you’ve been around for a while (or longer *wink wink*), consider this a refresher.

We’ve also included two (2) visuals in this post. They give an overview of what our sub is all about and how things work here~

Ok so if you’re looking to get feedback on your work, you can do that by joining our open Review Exchanges (REs). It’s the best way to get a feel for how exchanges work and what’s expected in the sub.

Before jumping in, please take a moment to read through the rules and guidelines in the sidebar and our Wiki.

If you’d like to create your own post, you’ll need to be active in the community first by taking part in discussions, activities, or REs – as we have a sub-karma requirement. Please note that we do not allow individual self-promo posts requesting feedback.

And if you’re interested in hosting your own exchange or searching for a beta reader, just make sure your post follows our templates and guidelines.

For ‘Outside the Sub’ posts—such as surveys, sign-ups, or events hosted outside this subreddit—please reach out to us via modmail for approval before posting.

DA LINKS:

If you have any questions or need clarification about the sub, feel free to drop them in the comments.

As always, thanks for being here and for helping make this sub what it is <3

Activity Meet the OC

Soooo next weekend we have the OC fest, and I thought it would be nice if we got to meet a bit about them beforehand! If you're not joining the OC fest, that's okay! Let's meet your OC too!

Tell us their name, why you chose that name, where they are from, what's their role in the story, any powers they got if it applies, their relation to canon characters if it applies, and anything else you'd like to share!

Activity Out of the Comfort Zone!

Hi, lovely folks!

I decided to host this activity partly to prove to you (and myself? 😁) that I'm still very much alive -- and given that we're approaching Halloween season, perhaps there's reason to wonder! đŸ‘» (Things have just been unusually busy for me, and most of my writing has manifested in quick bursts across planned chapters. 😂)

So, for this activity, the goal is to challenge yourself out of your comfort zone. Pick a quote from a movie/book/TV show, what have you, and post it. Then, respond under someone else's quote with an 'excerpt' that you create completely from scratch! Here's the kicker -- this cannot be for a fandom you've previously written for, ever. (Which, in my case, might be my subconscious trying to finally trick me into writing for a beloved show that I can't seem to write for at all.) For the sake of clarity, a fandom in this context doesn't mean pairing, but rather the TV show/book/film itself.

So, completely new! Written on the spot! And it needs to, in some way, relate to the quote. If you want to be extra-fancy, you may feel free to challenge yourself for the fandom from which the quote originates!

Don't worry about it being too short, or not an exact match or whatever. The goal is just to have fun, and try something new!

Ooh, and don't reveal the source of the quote. Let folks guess and have fun! With that said, those are all the rules with the most important being to just have fun!

Journeys...we all go through them, wether physically, emotionally or mentally. They can be long, short, or eternal.

So to celebrate them....here's a exchange about Journeys!

Share up to TWO (2) fanfics or chapters that contain some kind of journey.Just remember to include the following in your entry: link, fandom, rating, wordcount, a summary, and maybe tell us a bit about why the characters are dancing! Please spoiler any trigger warnings!

If you submit your work, you're required to review two (2) works from two (2) different authors (leaving kudos would be nice, too). After you've left them a review, reply to their entry here to let them know. Feell free to review more than the requirement if more stories catch your eye!

. Reviews should be genuine and thoughtful; at least FIFTY (50) WORDS LONG. Concrit, and mentions of ‘fandom blind’ and ‘from Reddit’ are opt-in only.

Exchange 🍁Long Deadline Profile Exchange🍂

Post image
21 Upvotes

.

It’s Friday, and you know what that means
time for another round of the Long Deadline Profile Exchange!

HOW IT WORKS: This is a weekly subreddit event where everyone shares their AO3 (or FFN) profile along with a bit of information about the kind of stories they write. Then, fellow participants browse each other’s profiles, read a one-shot or chapter of their choice, and leave a comment on one of the author’s works (a kudos wouldn’t go amiss either, of course).

DEADLINE FOR ENTRY is Sunday, 18th October at 10PM BST

DEADLINE FOR COMPLETION is Saturday, 24th October at 10PM BST.

Timezone Converter

What Are the Rules?

Post your profile link and a short summary of the kind of stories that one might find there (fandom, genre, rating, etc.). Please spoiler anything triggering or NSFW.

Once you enter, you will have to review at least 4 stories/chapters from 4 different profiles (one from each). Please include in your submission "Reviewed 0/4" so we (the mods) can keep track.

Your reviews should be thoughtful. The writer should be able to tell that you read the story. Say what you like about the story. Did something crack you up? Were you brought to tears? Did you have a favourite part? TELL THEM ABOUT IT! At least 50 words per review. Here's a link to a discussion what makes good RE comments, and some examples, sub members have shared of great comments they've appreciated receiving in exchanges.

ConCrit, stating you are "fandom blind" and/or "from Reddit" are opt-in only. After you've left a comment, reply to the author’s post on here to let them know.

Only reply to an individual entry when you’ve read their fic or if you want to ask a question. Also, please refrain from adding gifs and images to these replies as they are not relevant to whether you’ve reviewed a story. We’re happy you’re excited about reading, but please be mindful of cluttering up the thread.

If possible, it would be nice if everyone read at least one person who is new to them.

If you enter the exchange, DO NOT delete your entry. You must complete the required reviews for the exchange.

Please message the mods if something comes up, and you have concerns about completing your reviews in a timely manner.

But above all, have fun and happy reading and reviewing! 💚

Venting Farewell

Since I have review commitments that I am frustratingly unable to fulfil – the fics on offer in the relevant exchange are great, but I'm incapable of writing a fifty-word-or-longer comment for them that I can convince the editor in my head is rules-compliant – I must, with regret, bid you all farewell, for I will never be able to join another exchange.

Thank you for all the lovely stories you've shared and the lovely comments you've left.

Good night, and may your god go with you.

Write it and they will come. Very, very slowly. 😂

Fic General Poll out of curiosity: genres you like to read vs. write?

I read an interesting insight a while ago, that some authors enjoy reading and writing within the same genre/mood/type of story, while others prefer to read things that are vastly different from what they write. How about you? Do you gravitate toward the same genre as a reader vs. as a writer, or no? Or maybe it varies from day to day?

Exchange The Discovery Exchange

Post image
33 Upvotes

It's time to 🔎discover🔎 authors you haven’t read before! 😄

For this exchange, you’re required to read and review 3 fics from 3 different authors. At least 2 of those must be for authors who are new to you.

The third review can be either another new-to-you author or a long-time favorite.

If you’ve already read something by everyone participating, please review authors whose work you’ve read the least. Feel free to review more than the requirement if you want. Leaving a kudos is super nice too!

You may submit up to 3 links and include: title + link, fandom, rating, summary, word count, and any necessary warnings (kindly spoiler triggering and/or NSFW content), etc.

Or simply link your profile or a collection and share what you write :)

As always, your reviews must be genuine, thoughtful, detailed, and a minimum of 50 words about the fic itself. The author should be able to tell you actually read their story.

Constructive feedback and mentions of being “fandom-blind” or “from Reddit” are opt-in only – please don’t include any of these unless the author explicitly says you can.

You should leave your reviews on the works itself (AO3, FFN, or other fanfic sites), then reply to the author’s entry here to let them know.

Please don’t forget to include your review counter under your own entry, like “Reviewed: 0/3” or something similar.

And do not delete your entry once you’ve joined. If you need an extension or have any concerns, contact us via modmail.

Entry Deadline: Friday, October 16th, 11:59pm EST

Review Deadline: Sunday, October 18th, 11:59pm EST

Take a chance and see where it leads 👀

If you’re new and need guidance on how to participate in exchanges, please read and follow our sub rules and guides: How to Join Review Exchanges and Review Guidelines & Resources, which cover our review expectations along with examples.

But above all, have fun and happy reading and reviewing! 🎉

Exchange Long-Style Comments Exchange

EDIT: This exchange is now closed to new entries.

This RE is inspired by my own tendency to leave long, essay-type comments on fics. 📝

Therefore, there is no specific story theme, but the requirement is to make each comment you give 200 words or more.

To enter, you may submit up to 3 links and in return you must read and review 2 chapters/one shots by different authors.

Please include in your entry: Title/Link, Fandom, Rating, Word Count, Summary, Warnings (use spoiler for NSFW or triggering content), and a Review Counter (ex: 0/2)

Entry Deadline: Wednesday, October 14, 9pm PST

Review Deadline: Sunday, October 18, 9pm PST

Reviews must be genuine, thoughtful, detailed, and a minimum of 200 words about the fic itself, demonstrating that you have actually read the story. Constructive feedback and mentions of being “fandom blind” or “from Reddit” are opt-in only. Only include these if the author has explicitly stated they are welcome.

You should leave your reviews on the work itself (AO3, FFN, or other fanfic sites) then reply to the author’s entry here to let them know, like “K&C” (Kudos and Commented).

Do not delete your entry once you have joined.

I look forward to reading your stories!

Activity Character Propaganda

Look, I honestly don't know how else to describe this, but....

Is there a character or ship that you feel you pretty much write propaganda for? As in, maybe they're not as beloved in the main fandom, maybe they don't have such a big role, but still, you make sure to show them extra love. To show others how good they are

And hopefully, to get them more fans!

Miiight apply to fandoms too

Exchange Unconventional Format RE

SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED!

Usually, we write our fanfics like we write a book. But what about when we don't? And that's what I want to celebrate here.

Now what do I mean by "unconventional format"? Well, like I mentioned, most fanfics are written in the same way a typical book is written, so an unconventional format is when a fanfic is not written like that. It could be written like a script, a series of letters, diary/journal entries, or other epistolary forms, group chats. Anything that isn't the typical literary/"book" format counts.

For this exchange, you can submit up to two (2) fics featuring an unconventional format of some sorts. Make sure you have the title, fandom, rating, content and trigger warnings, if needed, as well as how the fic is formatted (is it a script? a series of journal entries? etc.). And in turn you have to review two (2) fics by two (2) different authors.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Wednesday, October 14th, 11:59 PM EST

REVIEW DEADLINE: Saturday, October 17th, 11:59 PM EST

Happy reviewing, everyone!

Fic General Darkest fic you've ever written?

Authors can have really wild imaginations, and sometimes, our imaginations can take us to dark places. And sometimes, it can take us to REALLY dark places. So it's got me wondering, how deep into the darkness has everyone's minds gone? What's the darkest fic that people have written, published or not?

Exchange Fresh from the Oven: Long Deadline Profile Exchange!

Post image
25 Upvotes

EDIT: CLOSED TO NEW ENTRIES! Happy reading and reviewing!

G'day, mates!

Happy Friday! We have a fresh batch of profiles ready to consume in this week's edition of the Long Deadline Profile Exchange!

What's the Long Deadline Profile Exchange?

This is a subreddit event where everyone posts their AO3 (or FFN, etc.) profile with some information about the sorts of stories they write. Then, participants look through the available profiles, and read and leave comments on stories (one-shots or a chapter of a longer fic) by authors who catch their fancy. Leaving a kudos would be nice too!

DEADLINE FOR ENTRY is Monday October 12th 3pm EST (GMT+10)

DEADLINE FOR REVIEWS is Sunday October 18th 3pm AEST (GMT+10)

Here is a time zone converter if anyone needs it - especially since this permanently exhausted pigeon from the Land Down Under is in a part of Australia that doesn't observe daylight savings. (Pigeon me is also going, 'Ooh, bread!')

The Rules

Post your profile link with a short summary of the kinds of stories one might find there (fandom, genre, ratings, etc.). Please spoiler anything triggering or NSFW.

Once you enter, you will have to review at least 4 stories/chapters from 4 different profiles (one from each).

Please include in your submission a counter such as "Reviewed 0/4" so we can keep track of the number of reviews you've done. There's no need to also note which stories/authors you've reviewed in your entry.

After you've left a comment, reply to their post on here to let them know. For anyone new, 'K&C' in a reply stands for 'Kudos and Comment'.

Your reviews should be thoughtful. The writer should be able to tell that you read the story. Say what you like about the story. Did something crack you up? Were you brought to tears? Did you have a favourite part? TELL THEM ABOUT IT! At least 50 words per review. ConCrit, stating you are "fandom blind" and/or "from Reddit" are opt-in only.

Please only reply to an individual entry when you've read their fic or if you want to ask a question. Also, please refrain from adding GIFs and images to replies as they are not relevant to whether you've reviewed a fic. We're happy that you're excited about reading, but unfortunately these make it hard for users (and mods!) to navigate the thread.

If possible, it would be awesome if everyone read at least one person who is new to them.

If you enter the exchange, please do not delete your entry. You must complete the required reviews for the exchange. Please talk to the mods if something comes up and you have concerns about doing something in a timely manner.

But above all, have fun and happy reading and reviewing!
