Looking to transfer

Currently at SUNY New Paltz looking to transfer to farmingdale if anyone could offer me an insight on the campus culture. I plan to be living on the dorms. Just a few things I wish I knew before attending New Paltz I’d like to avoid.
1) how is the town?
2) what is the job market for student ?

FSC is a commute school, so weekends and weekdays evenings are straight up dead. It can be hard to make friends someone who is a commuter.

Farmingdale downtown is great, with active bars and its proximity to the train. Its not a college town level that you would see in upstate colleges, but theres other towns on the island that have similar style if you're looking something like that.

Market on LI is tough.

I can't answer about the first two but I will say this:

I agree with those in the comments who said FSC's dorms are shit. There are only three resident halls you could end up in; Dewey, Orchard, and Alumni (keep these names in mind).

Dewey - I'm a current freshman and am living in Dewey right now. The room is nice, but comes with no A/C and a radiator/heater that may or may not work. I do not know who my RA is, nor the RD, but at the moment it is pretty loud. You will not have a private bathroom, but instead a communal bathroom which is shared with 50 or so other men/women. The building had renovations in 2024, but did not address ANY of the issues that residents had, all they did was add the CMHS(Campus Mental Health Service) office. There's construction ALL over the place, and getting out is very annoying as you will need to loop around the building, cross a temporary bridge (construction blocked off the path to the campus center), and figure out where you will wanna go.

Orchard - I've stayed in this dorm building and it is nice. There's 24 hour security, an Amazon Locker, kitchens on all 4 floors, larger washer/dryers than Dewey, etc. Orchard has single, double, or if availability exists, triple suites for students. Mainly upperclassmen live here, but freshman do as well due to Dewey being overcrowded. You do get your own bathroom, but instead of sharing it with 50+ people, you only have to share with 2-5 other students. Since you are a transfer student, you have a higher chance of getting into this dorm than Dewey.

Alumni - Old ass building, smells musty, but they have a security guard, a lawn, and a kitchen (built in the 50s). It's also undergoing renovations.

If you'd like to learn more about the dorms, Farmingdale's website has some decent information on it. I've linked it below for your convenience: https://www.farmingdale.edu/residence-life/residencehalls.shtml
