The Arthur Pugification is particularly ironic because the first book was literally about Arthur wanting rhinoplasty so his friends would stop making fun of his nose and he learns that his nose is fine the way it is.
I mean he kinda did, 2 years after the last skylanders game they remade the original trilogy with an updated version of his ps1 design and now they have a new game coming up where he's aged some from his old design
Real talk i fucking love when series have the characters keep scars or wounds. It annoys me to no end that a character can take some insane beating that forces them to have to do something drastic and three episodes later they look fine. KEEP THE WOUNDS AND SCARS, theyre legitimately signs of growth or past struggles, its rad. Marvel's thor did this, he lost an eye. Looked rad, fit thematically and showed his growth and past failure. Then they give him a new robot one that looks the same! It was such a good look and it would have had anyone who skipped the movie either go back and watch to see how it happened or look it up, either way they're more invested. I hate it!
That's Rom Lim, who was a main artist when Penders was a main writer on Archie Sonic. His art was distinct for really emphasizing Sonic's huge mono-eye and also for drawing his spines long and flowing down.
Even as a kid, I remember being so sad when they first changed their fairy design because they took my girls Technas full bodysuit. The first designs were so nice and simple - then they just got so overcomplicated and started to lack any personality
Iggy (Jojo's bizarre adventure) he started as this "putrid" looking dog (in a good way) but as the time went on his face got more consistent and cartoon-esque
I do miss how sleek, graceful and cat-like he was in the first movie, but I just headcanon his changes as him aging. He was still a juvenile in the first movie, while he became an adult from HTTYD 2 onwards. Maybe that's just what adult Night Furies look like.
Although, if so, I do wish they had stuck with his HTTYD 2 appearance. They went a little too far in 3, he looks awful.
It may also have to do with Toothless being at least partially "domesticated", so he may have put on a slight bit of weight proportionally do to having more reliable food access. The changes to the bone structure may well have to do with aging, as Night Furies might grow denser and more rugged bones to improve defense capabilities at the cost of speed, like other animal species.
I wouldn't even care that she got whitewashed (I HEARD SOMEWHERE SHE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE RUSSIAN, IF NOT THEN DISREGARD), but the titty expansion is just sad. They did it to every single female character and it sucks...
You know for all the shit One Piece gets about how it designs women, at the very least the second picture while sexualised sure looks like a human instead of a crushed soda can
Tbh I'd rather 1st design over the 2nd one bc while it may look like a crushed soda can at least it's stylization and not generalization.
Both to me do not look like (healthy/non outlier) human beings but at least the 1st pic it's due to a very distinct recognizable style, while in the 2nd it's just a generically drawn "hottie". Yes the waist is wider in the 2nd one but in no way it makes it look 'closer' to human.
My point being, both designs represent a hot baddie, but the 1st one is def more style less sexy while the 2nd one is just sexy.
(Sry for yapping but I have a gripe with one piece for this reason specifically, and stopped watching pretty early on bc I got so disappointed by the upcoming change in women designs. I loved pre time skip Nami and Robin designs)
One Piece is the poster child of ruining every single interesting gal design just for ridiculous cheap fanservice, and literally not caring about the female fans opinions. Characters barely look human.
Tbf, she had been living in a desert nation and white people do get more tan with exposure to sunlight. Her leaving Alabasta could cause that much change.
During the summer my sister would get so dark she had people assume she was mixed race, and she'd challenge Snow White for paleness in the winter.
The way the men look relatively the same just in a different artstyle but the women just got made more conventionally attractive and more noticeably softened design wise
To be fair if i am not mistaken they are supposedly propaganda picture of rebel army, here is how Marco is depicted in Metal Slug Tactics (last released game for now) for example
Xenovia from Highschool DxD. Every character was hit with a downgrade but Xenovia got hit the worse. It feels like the designers did complete 180 on her design.
He was always that color. The only reason it looks different in the earlier seasons is because Season 1 was done on cels, and Season 2’s master tapes had some problems when they were digitized for TV.
Even in the character model sheets for the original pilot, he was a more neon yellow.
I think Stolas pugfication happened after Helluva Boss pilot. In the pilot he was intimidating pervert and he looks intimidating, while in the actual show he became more of a miserable pathetic twink and his design makes him look like it
the pilot was recently redone too because that original version is pretty much non-canon to the main story now, so now his character in there aligns better with the love interest narrative (a lot actually changed in the new & official ‘pilot’ lol)
For me one of the worst cases had to be Blue Box. The faces became wider and more triangular and the eyes became huge. And in Taiki's case, it feels like he ended up getting a receding hairline.
Recent scientific studies of raccoons show snouts shortening over time as they move from wild areas to urban areas. "Domestification" happens to real animals, not just cartoon animals.
Can someone please explain to me, someone who doesn’t watch helluva boss why people are so upset about this specific shot of Stolas? I don’t understand how it’s pugification considering he is literally looking up. The eyes are also not different cause his eyes get bigger in the pilot that people are comparing the shot to. The only real difference is his outfit and I know that Stolas is living with Blitz based off other shots I’ve seen so of course he wouldn’t be dressing like a prince anymore? I genuinely don’t get it
I don't get it either, since this is him just a frame later. (The white pupils only appear sometimes).
I think it's more about people finding his fit jarring and just hating the scene in general. He made bad decisions that episode that pissed some people off.
Can someone explain to me what pugification means because I literally cannot decipher it. Characters that had their faces flattened? Characters that got made ugly? Characters that had a style change?
I believe it's "characters that have certain features exaggerated over time until they look almost completely different from their original counterparts"
for example, for komi, her bangs become much larger and her face gets squished down
A pug is a breed of dog that specifically had its snout shortened and it's eyes enlarged over decades of breeding as each new generation looked "cuter" than the last. The point is that now pugs as a breed suffer extensive breathing problems and difficulties because of how flat their faces have become.
This is talking about characters that have slowly degraded or changed over time until they're completely unrecognizable, using examples of characters who literally got their faces flattened and eyes enlarged (Pugification / Pugified).
