Linda and Bob from bobs burgers. Usually, at least in adult cartoons- dad's are portrayed as the outgoing fun ones that get up to mischief. So it's nice seeing it the other way wrong. God, I love this show lol

u/sno0py_8 1d ago
I would say that King of the Hill has a similar dynamic: a reserved and antisocial dad and a fairly outgoing mom.

Really good anime. Really like how every character gets a spot in the sunlight!
16
u/Ginrar 1d ago
Yes it was really good and fun to watch and it's not every day when you see animes with multiple couples that each getting their time with no harem and stuff.
9
u/BlatantConservative 1d ago
It actually used to be more common. I swear harem stuff was relegated to only late night nonsense back in the day.

I started rewatching this show and I do NOT remember there being that much fan service. I mean, DAMN.
20
u/BlatantConservative 1d ago
This is basically how I felt after switching to the anime from the manga.
You'll notice this in tons of anime and manga, the excessive fanservice is usually in the first few chapters or episodes and then once the series becomes stable the editors stop forcing it.
14
u/Da_biggest_Boy 1d ago
Yeah started it because a friend said he likes it and stopped at the measuring szene like bro I wanna see 2 people be cute with each other not the browserhistory of boy in puberty
35
u/Dust45 1d ago
I mean, the author is a woman? She did state that she was intentionally trying to appeal to boys who "wanted a cosplay girlfriend." She also made good as her "ideal man." There is a lot of fanswrvice, but it is also, fundamentally, a female perspective on body confidence.
3
u/Da_biggest_Boy 1d ago
I am not saying it is bad to be confident in ones body as a female or to hide it, but the szene i was talking about is very heavy on using classic male gaze framing and emphasising on animation that supports that (wich isn‘t a factor in manga obviously) but i would argue that the Szene isn‘t really a paragon on supporting woman in feeling confident in their body. More that they will be fetishized if they are showing their body to a man (even if he is uncomfortable in the situation and trying his best to be not ,,wierd“). I didn‘t read the manga so U don’t know how the anime is diffrent in showcasing the szene but the anime is definitely not doing a good job there

Jesus Christ that’s worse than I thought. Like I knew she’d be underage, but I thought she’d be like 17 so she can turn 18 by the end of the manga, 15 is wack, why is she younger than me 😭

Couple aside, I love that the author was just a massive personal fan of Creepy Nuts, made the manga and named it after a Creepy Nuts song without collabing with them at all. And then when the anime came out they did all the music.
Then they became popular and I was seeing them in all of my friend's Spotify Wrapped and stuff this last year. Even people who have no idea what anime is.
Gotta be one of the most powerful fan moments.

Ah yes, the singularity point holding the FNDM together.
||Even if Nora had to take a break to figure out who she is without her man. She never said she didn't love him or want to be with him, just that she needed to figure out some things about just herself before they can get back to the storybook ending path.||

I hate this because you rarely see it the other way around and it seemingly normalises the infantilsiation of women as well as the parentalisation of their male partners

u/TexasAvery 1d ago
https://giphy.com/gifs/Q04okRDxoiItBwM2gDBut when it happens, it’s great

u/PaddywackShaq 1d ago
See, even then they're both goofballs and April is just as quirky as Andy.
I don't think you really see the quirky, hyper BF with the chill, sensible GF without it being that she hates that he's quirky and rolls her eyes at it sitcom wife style
1
u/TexasAvery 1d ago
That’s what I liked about April; she takes absolutely NOTHING seriously at all, just while being deadpan instead of hyperactive. A refreshing deviation from the Belaguered Sitcom Wife (tm) trope.

Or when it’s the other way around you’d say it pushes the female partner into being more of a mother to the Chud boyfriend or something like that.
It’s cooked either way if you want there to be a problem with the troupe. It’s a dumb ass troupe and that’s all it’s meant to be :(

u/IceWallowDeesNuts 1d ago
I mean have you seen dating subs. Like the way women talk about men if you’re not perfect and I’m not talking about the whole “women want men who are 6ft” shtick.
If you ever see a woman complain about how their boyfriend is “hyperactive”(in this case we don’t necessarily know exactly what it means because each definition is different from person to person). Women will come in from the depths of hell, to comment about how shitty of a men he is.
I understand women aren’t a monolith and my experience is anecdotal at best and a goomba fallacy type thing.
But it’s like, I understand I should be myself or at the very least the best version of myself when with a gf. All it takes is one and I mean ONE thing, word, anything for you to do that does not fit in line with her. Next thing you know she breaks up with you and you’re spending the next 20 years dating trying to find a woman who even glances at you.
4
u/cschelsea 1d ago
You should probably not use dating subreddits for setting realistic relationship expectations. Hyper-analysing your behaviour and words because you think your partner will break up with you over anything could easily become a self fulfilling prophecy.
