Support Base Fedora Kernel with RX 9070 XT

I’ve been having an issue with just about every fedora install and different fedora based distros like bazzite. In all of them, it’s not detecting my VRR monitor. It only does this on fedora based images. On Cachy OS it works and even Fedora with the Cachy OS kernel work, but the base Fedora kernel just won’t work. I really want to switch to Bazzite, but the VRR not working is kinda making me reconsider.

Monitor: KTC M27T6 with Display Port

Edit: Don’t know if these are entirely related but here’s the rest of my specs.

CPU: Ryzen 7 9700x
GPU: PowerColor 9070xt
Motherboard: ASUS TUF B850

It sounds like you're looking for help. Please note that r/Fedora is not an official support channel for the Fedora Project.

For best results, be sure to include all relevant details in your post, such as your Fedora edition, version, and hardware specs. You can edit your original post to add more info as needed, and spotlight (pin) a solution from the comments. You might also find the answer in our support wiki.

What does bazzite do that kinoite doesn't for your configuration? And have you tried aurora dx? Might be a better fit.

I originally had base fedora with Cachy kernel ( Because it was the only way to get my monitor to pop up as VRR ), but wanted to switch to bazzite because I use it mostly for gaming and kinda just wanted something plug and play. Something in the fedora kernels is just not working with my monitor for some reason. It does this anything based on fedora.

Also thanks for the suggestion on Aurora dx. I was looking for something for work on my laptop and that distro sounds perfect.

What kernel version are you using? What's your Mesa version? What Fedora release? Something is definitely off, cuz VRR should work on Fedora 44 GNOME with a 9070xt as that's what my setup is.

Maybe it's not enabled on your system for some reason? This command enabled it on older versions of GNOME: gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['variable-refresh-rate']"

I don’t know with GNOME but with KDE, which I use it seems to work on a 9070.
