Convicted killer attending McGill law school divides students over safety, 2nd chances

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/convicted-killer-mcgill-law-school-9.7382625

The guy "sexually assaulted and killed one woman and, less than six weeks later, beat and choked a 15-year-old so severely that she was paralyzed and disabled for life" and no one told the students that they'd be in class with him.

various clinical assessments ranked Ewert’s risk of reoffending as moderate to high

The extension to Ewert's day parole was granted under a variety of conditions, including not to enter a drinking establishment, to immediately report all sexual and non-sexual relationships with women and to allow his case management team access to all his telecommunication activity.

The parole board added the latter condition because Ewert had been viewing women's profiles on social media, starting discussions with them, and exploring a dating site without notifying his case management team.

Ewert’s day parole — first granted in February 2025 — was temporarily suspended in May 2025 because he had contacted and collected the phone numbers of multiple women, and after the counsellor at his community residential facility took issue with his attitude and behaviour.

On the Threads account, Ewert is actively communicating with women, commenting on images of women, many of which appear to be altered or created by AI. Below one image, he commented “hotties like you drive us crazy.”

There is nothing that can convince me that our society doesn't hate women.

That guy belongs locked up for life, not at an university. He got several chances and still does not follow the rules. Does another women need to die first before they realize that?

In what universe does a murderer get day parole to go to university to get a law degree???  The Canadian justice system is really screwy.

This isn't just a McGill issue, here's an example of another shocking case in Montreal:

Bono pleaded guilty earlier this month to criminally harassing Anastasia Boldireff, 31, in 2019, when he followed and harassed her on two different occasions while she was walking near Concordia University's downtown campus.

Bono had previously pleaded not guilty to the criminal charge in 2019.

At the time of the events, Boldireff was a student working for the university. She reported the incidents and later discovered Bono had been found not criminally responsible on two charges of sexual assault on two different women less than a year earlier, in December 2018.
(...)
Prosecutors and the defence lawyers representing Bono had submitted a joint sentencing recommendation of a two-year conditional discharge, requiring Bono to continue undergoing treatment. Details of that treatment are covered by a publication ban.

I'm all about second chances, but sexual predators have been shown to be unrehabilitatable

How can anyone uphold the law, when they have clearly broken it? I don't know what Law Society will accept him or what firm will take him on for articling.

2 innocent women’s lives cut short for no reason. The 15 year old was asleep on his parent’s couch when he attacked her, the other was hitchhiking. He says he’s a different person but he needs to be restricted or supervised as women, particularly young students, are still at risk around him.

Society clearly hates women. This POS does not deserve rehabilitation! There’s no rehabilitating evil, this isn’t someone who grew up poor and robbed someone or accidentally shot someone during a turf war. He raped and killed/ paralyzed two young girls.

Guess who cant attend law school? Those two girls.

But but but "false accusations" ruuuuin liiiiives 🙄 Meanwhile this convicted mysogenist rapist and murderer seems to be able to do anything he wants and no one is willing to say "no, he's an active risk to women, so he doesn't get to take classes with them." So fucking sick of this!!

Why is he allowed to attend University in the first place is my question.
