Ferndale schools

Wife and I plus our 3 year old are ready to move closer back home in Oakland county where we are from. I grew up in Troy and would like to suck it up and move there for the schools, my wife really likes ferndale and I do too especially for the cost of a home, but I am concerned about the school district. I was a 2012 grad and I remember visiting ferndale for sports all through high school and it felt pretty ghetto to me, the city looks like it’s changed a lot , but how are the schools really? Please people with kids in schools reply only

Your choice of language is incredibly problematic. Feel free to stay where you are. Our district doesn’t need your bullshit.

Just curious cause I read an article about how potential gun violence keeps showing up at ferndales football games. That was a shocker and I’m not sure I’m comfortable with a school district in an area like that

I think it said oak park and Ferndale can no longer play games against each other due to gang type violence

Edit: Woops sorry I don't have kids but I'm a teacher in TSD and live in Ferndale. Just thought I'd give some perspective!

I do think comparing Ferndale and Troy School Districts will be very different. The public data shows a large gulf from Ferndale to Troy or Athens. Of course, Troy would then offer an inroad to International Academy (rated #1 and #12 in Michigan and nationally respectfully). Of course Ferndale probably has some great teachers but the learning will be a little different. It really depends on what you want for your kid. I think Ferndale would have a great experience and a fun neighborhood school, Troy will give a lot of great academic stuff.

In Ferndale with kids.

But honestly, If you think Ferndale in 2012 was “ghetto” just move back to Troy. 2012 Ferndale was fun af and why I resided here….from Troy…which is basically Southfield 2.0. City of Tomrorow, Today. 😂

If you can’t tell already, you will be cancelled for not drinking the kool-aid in Ferndale. Unless you can demonstrate max virtue signaling in your comments/speech you will be trolled endlessly. Berkley, Royal Oak, Clawson all better choices if you want good schools and a milder political climate. This is coming from (liberal) school teachers who live in Ferndale. Also, your taxes will be much lower in those communities.

I don’t have kids but live in Ferndale. I would move to get my kid(s) in a diff school district personally.
