MK7 Strong fuel smell inside (on start) and outside

Hey all,

When I start my car (2013, 52K miles) I get a strong fuel smell inside the car but only when starting. When I open the bonnet you can still occasionally get a whiff of lean fuel. I have no visual leaking such as dripping.

Any help would be much appreciated

Probably gonna get that EVAP system code pretty soon and find that you can’t just buy the solenoid, you’ve got to replace it as an assembly with all the lines and stuff, or you can be like me and ignore it because it never affected driveability.

If you search EVAP on the sub your bound to find a few posts with the same exact question as yours

Appreciate the response! I'll have a look and just like you said, it doesn't effect driveability at all it's it's been this way for a while now.

Not replacing and fixing your purge valve can lead to fuel dilution. You should absolutely fix it soon.

I had the same, turns out it was a injector leak from when they replaced rocker cover gasket a few months ago, may be work taking them off and look
