Serious If you could explore one moment from Finnish history, which would you pick?
I'm putting together a map in HistoryGuesser and would love to hear your ideas. Which moment from Finland's past would be most interesting to step into, and why?

I would want to join Sibelius, Gallen-Kallela, et. al., on one of their multi-day drinking benders in the 1890s.

The time before Swedish crusades into Finland, because there is not much knowledge of Finnish tribes from back then.

And how much they interacted with the people crossing the sea from Roden (Ruotsi) to what would become Åbo/Turku. The area is called Roslagen in current Swedish language. Before christianity spread to Sweden, they practiced asatro and believed in different gods.

Well this isn't a short moment, but during the Golden age of Finnish art in 1880-1910. It coincided with the national awakening of Finland, when Finland was still part of Russian empire.

You should read book from Teemu Keskisarja: Vihreän kullan kimallus, biography about Gösta Serlachius which will include many anecdotes about Akseli Gallen-Kallela.

I'd like to be transported to 0 BCE southern Finland and see if people around me speak Saami or a Finnic dialect that I can understand.

The most interesting thing would be to travel the entire coast and see if Finnic was only confined to southwestern Finland or whether the Karelian branches of Proto-Finnic had already spread to southeastern Finland.
It would also be interesting to learn about the dynamics of the settled Finnic people and the nomadic Sámi in the south and whether they differed from the eventual dynamics in the north. The population density was extremely low and the entire country probably had under 50k people (Sámi included).
The Sámi and Finnic languages also should have been much more mutually intelligible at the time than they are now. (Still not intelligible, Finnic and Samic probably split about 1000 years before that year)

Very nice game. 14500 XP with first free round. This is something I would like to experience with more richer AI scenes that you can play and browse more freely. Also with possibly to select the time and location and have closest events virtualized in time and location domain with AI generated characters as close s we know the history.

The sinking of the Estonia in 1994 was not about Finland, but Finland played a major role in the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in European waters.

I think the Finnish Civil War in 1918 would be interesting to experience (somehow safely) although it probably wasn't a fun time to live through.
I have to admit I don't know that much about it except it tore the nation in two and was very brutal, with a lot of executions and war crimes committed just for holding opposing political views. It was a dark time for Finns.
From what I do know is that you basically had to pick a side or a side was picked for you based on your professional background. My family background would have probably made me one of the whites but ideologically I would probably find the socialist ideas more appealing.
There are still bullet holes and marks on a lot of architecture in Helsinki which are remnants of the Civil War, like on the "Pitkäsilta" stone bridge from Kaisaniemi to Hakaniemi for example, which was one frontline at some point I think.
A crazy and crazy scary time to be alive for sure. But would be fascinating to understand it better by somehow experiencing it in person.

To add to my original comment:
Russian bolshevik involvement may have complicated the question of picking sides beyond just differing political views on how to organize Finnish society.
Anyway, hopefully someone who knows better can correct me if I'm mistaken on any bits.

And also imperial German involvement, though it was practically a thing only in the latter part of the war, after the arrival of the Jägers and the German landings in southern Finland.

1 000 swedish volunteers fought for the white side as well.
A couple of swedish veterans even returned to Finland to participate in the winter war, but that time as commanders for the swedish voluntary corps.

In the context of historyguesser, it should be one concrete, memorable moment from Finnish history. Like:
- murder of Bobrikov by Schauman 1906
- battle of Bomarsund 1854
- battle of Napue 1714
- Helsinki olympics 1952
- Mäntsälä rebellion 1932
- bombardment of Helsinki during WWII
