Tourism Any tips on how to actually make friends and meet locals?
Moi! How is everyone doing?
I just arrived in Finland for the first time and I’ll be staying here for the next two months (around the Helsinki area). While I definitely want to check out some authentic Finnish spots, my main goal is to meet people and make some friends while I'm here.
I know Finns have a reputation for being a bit reserved at first, so I wanted to ask for your best advice on how to break the ice and socialize here. Are there specific social events, board game cafes, language exchanges, apps, or local hangouts where people are actually open to chatting with newcomers?

Thinking of getting weight loss medicine
Hi,
I have access to Terveystalo from my employer. I talked to terveystalo about weight loss and their doctor said you are eligible and you can make an appointment and we will start the weight loss program. I asked about the price and he said it starts from around 100 euros per month.
I want to ask others who have been on weight loss drugs. How much is it costing and how much did you need it? Also anything else I should be familiar with? I’m planning to get mounjaro which is more effective? Are injections better or tablets? I hate injections but I should be able to manage.

Is it true that there are Swedish speaking areas where the locals don't know Finnish?
I heard that there are areas of Pohjanmaa that are very Swedish where the locals don't speak much finnish.
How do they work without knowing Finnish and go to shops, get healthcare etc without Finnish language skills?

Serious What does this mean in Finnish, to people in Finland?
My partner and I were going through her late father's old photos from an album she recently came into possession of. He was a Namibian diplomat in the 80s (before Namibia was a country) who traveled the world doing diplomacy and whatnot in the name of fighting the South African Apartheid government which them controlled Namibia. We've been able to identify the time and place and purpose of nearly all the other photos he's in, from Uzbekistan to the US to Norway to North Korea, but this one remains a mystery.
What about a blood orange? Sliced? What does it mean? Outspan who? Google is no help here so I appeal to the people of Finland to help us figure out what he was up to in this series of photos (that's not him in the photo, obviously; this is a rare one he took, instead of posed for).

Are Black Friday (or Black Week) deals good? Planning to buy a new phone
I’ve saved up for quite a while and I’m planning to replace my iPhone 12 since it’s slowing down badly to a new 17 pro. Although I want to get it on the cheapest time possible. If I were to buy one, when should I buy one?

US President Remarks on Finland: Heavy metal and good governance
The US president was quoted as saying
https://www.npr.org/2016/05/17/478409307/president-obama-is-familiar-with-finlands-heavy-metal-scene-are-you
""I do want to point out, that Finland has perhaps the most heavy metal bands in the world, per capita," he said, "and also ranks high on good governance. I don't know if there's any correlation there.""

Gift from Finland
Hello folks.
I’m going on a business trip and need to buy Finnish presents for partners.
Can you recommend a shop where I can purchase a ready set of something as a gift? Like a collection of dried berries, local treats. Something presentable and worthy.
I visited souvenir shops, nothing found there.

Serious Kontio Motors
Can't really find any decent reviews or info about the company and product quality but their cruiser scooters seem quite common. Does anyone have any info about them or personal experience? would love to get a scooter from them but I first must know what I'm getting into and what longevity to expect.

Tourism driving in Finland early summer
Hello guys.
I have troubles finding reliable weather data, maybe locals can help me.
i am planning to drive the full length of Finland at the beginning of June 2027.
Can you please help me with average temperatures during that time?
i found some data stating that the lows are ~10 degrees during night.
My biggest concern is what tires i am coming with. at lows of 10 during night, are summer tires usable in your country? ( in Romania i can comfortably drive summers at that temps - i wont be driving during night, only late evenings, maybe)
should i come with all seasons , or even winter tires? ( for sure, not nordic tires)
Thanks for the help

Parking fee
I understand that I have to pay there for parking between 9-21 on weekdays and between 9-18 on Saturdays. And I can set parking timer to 21 if I parked my car at 20:31 on a weekday. Do I pay for half-an-hour or not?
I think no. But I just want to make sure. Thank you for your time.

Finnish Citizen Calls for Ministry of Joy
A Finnish citizen has called on the government to establish a new Ministry of Joy, arguing that the country's reputation as the happiest nation on Earth should be reflected in its institutions. The proposed ministry would be tasked with promoting happiness, encouraging social interaction, organizing public festivities, and ensuring that every Finnish citizen has access to moments of genuine joy. “We have ministries for defense, finance, and education, but none dedicated to the simple pleasure of being alive,” the citizen explained. Critics have questioned whether joy can be effectively administered by the state, while supporters insist that happiness is too important to be left to chance.

Can I get a study visa through part-time study?
The immigration authority's website only stipulates that studies must be conducted in person and that the student must reside in Finland; it does not explicitly state whether the studies must be full-time.
The degree program I wish to apply for involves classes held in the evenings and on weekends; would this still qualify me for a study-based visa?
