Hello everyone,
I am a postcard collector and found this Real Photo Postcard in the USA at a Postcard show. My family is Estonian, and so I recognized the Finnish language right away. It is unusual to find Finnish cards in the USA. I would love any help reading the back if anyone is able. I have trouble reading Finnish script in cursive writing.
Thanks so much!
Hudson

What is the biggest unsolved mystery in Finland’s criminal history?

Finland has had several mysterious crimes and disappearances that remain unsolved to this day.
Few examples are Lake Bodom’s murder and Raisa Räisänen’s disappearance.

Some cases have left investigators with unanswered questions for decades, while others continue to spark theories and public debate.

Off the top of your head, what unsolved crime in Finland do you think deserves a deeper investigation?

Fastest way to learn Finnish?

What’s the best way to learn Finnish fast?

Story/The why ->
My wife (Finnish) doesn’t want to live in my home country cause its very different and weird at times next to Finland, which I understand, however that comes with the issue that finding a job in Finland for me is like 1 in a million. Im currently “safe” cause I can keep working remotely for a few months, but other then that I dont want to rely on benefits after. I still get that being a non-native sometimes is an automatic rejection for a job, but I want to atleast try.

Been living in Finland for around a month now, and seems super hard to get around the language (other then reading, wife says I read almost perfect)

First-time mom : How the hell are you actually supposed to use HSL buses with a pram?!

I’ve lived here almost half my life, but I’ve never spent time around moms and kids or paid attention to prams on buses.. Now it’s my turn.

I have a newborn, and because of severe anxiety, my husband and I have been practicing taking the bus with the pram so I don't have a full-on anxiety attack when I have to go alone.

So, I read all the HSL etiquette and instruction, but it’s been extremely frustrating and nerve-wracking. 98% of the time, my husband and I have to manually lift the pram in and out because the driver won't lower the bus.

Once, I pressed the exterior "pram" button because I needed the door to stay open longer (I'm recovering from a C-section and was really struggling) . The driver just shouted at us that don't press that, now the door wouldn't close bla bla bla

Another time, we were waiting at the middle doors of the orange bus ( runkolinja) , and the driver shouted that we had to use the last door, which was so confusing...

And today I asked the bus driver to lower the bus so we could get in and for our surorise, he did not.

I'm getting beyond pissed off and already stressing for upcoming appointments where I have to travel alone.

My question is: what is the actual correct way to use the bus with a pram? Are we doing something wrong?

Thank you!

really bad smell at the gym

i’ve been going to F24/7 and everything has been great but lately there’s this lady that smells so bad the whole gym stinks, is not just sweat odor, it’s a throwing up smell. i try to hold my breath but it’s inevitable. i can’t go at any other time because i have classes. in other circumstances i’ll just endure it but i feel like throwing up all the time and don’t know what to do, i don’t think it’s okay to tell her, i don’t want to be mean but what should i do if there’s anything i can do, do i switch up gyms ?

Buyer don’t retire a ToriDiili pack from posti locker

Hi, do you have experience with buyer not picking up the pack I delivered? What will happen? Today is the last day that he can pick the pack (it’s been all week in the locker). I also sent a text to the guy just in case he missed the notification but he didn’t reply. What should I expect if the pack stay there and he doesn’t pick it? Will he be reimbursed and I get back my delivery, or Tori will still pay me? It’s not a big sum of money (35 euro) but I also spent 4 euro to buy the paper box from posti 😅, that would be annoying…

Based on the information Yle received from the wellbeing services counties, the situation regarding waiting times during the night appears to have remained almost unchanged for several years.

Yikes. Pray your stars are always aligned, and you won't need to visit it.

Good news everyone the Fuel support package has been settled! In true Finnish bureaucratic fashion it helps almost no average person, they removed the actual thing that would lower the price at the pumps and won't come into affect until next year.

Serious What does this mean in Finnish, to people in Finland?

Post image
296 Upvotes

My partner and I were going through her late father's old photos from an album she recently came into possession of. He was a Namibian diplomat in the 80s (before Namibia was a country) who traveled the world doing diplomacy and whatnot in the name of fighting the South African Apartheid government which them controlled Namibia. We've been able to identify the time and place and purpose of nearly all the other photos he's in, from Uzbekistan to the US to Norway to North Korea, but this one remains a mystery.

What about a blood orange? Sliced? What does it mean? Outspan who? Google is no help here so I appeal to the people of Finland to help us figure out what he was up to in this series of photos (that's not him in the photo, obviously; this is a rare one he took, instead of posed for).

Still looking for a place to stay in Tampere from November to June – happy to help a host family!

Hi everyone!

I'm a 16-year-old German exchange student currently living in Tampere, and I'm still looking for a place to stay from early November until mid-June.

Unfortunately, I need to leave my current accommodation on October 25, so I'm trying to find a new place as soon as possible.

I'm also very open to staying with a local family! I'd be happy to help out with everyday tasks in exchange for accommodation, for example:

  • Babysitting
  • Dog sitting or taking care of other pets
  • Helping with household chores
  • Other small tasks around the house

I can also contribute financially and pay a reasonable amount towards accommodation, depending on the arrangement.

I don't necessarily need a place for the entire period. Even if you can only offer a room for a few weeks or a couple of months, that would already help me a lot!

I'm currently in Tampere, so I'm happy to meet in person and introduce myself. I'm flexible and open to different arrangements, whether it's a room with a family, a shared apartment, or another suitable option.

If you know anyone who might be able to help, or if you have a room available yourself, please send me a message. I'd really appreciate any leads or suggestions!

Thank you so much!
