Fix My Print Weird chipping/imperfections on tall thin print

Hello,

I've recently started designing my own 3D Models which honestly has been going great so far.

But the actual printing is where I seem to be struggling a bit and not finding a solution.

I've got myself a bambu lab p2s because it's so easy to just use other peoples print profiles with all the needed settings but now with my own models I'm struggling with the printer settings. With PLA I've not really had any problems but this model has to be printed with PETG and it's reacting very different than PLA.

My main problem:

Chipping/dents/little blobs at the edges/corners of these tall thin pillars. (thinnest 6mm, widest 12mm)

My printer:

Bambu Lab P2S

Slicer: Bambu Studio

Filament:

Bambu PETG Matte Black

My current print settings:

0.4mm Standard nozzle - 240 C temp

15% infil

2 wall loops

.16 layer height

outer wall 60mm/s

inner wall 300mm/s

Bed Temp 70 C

Retraction Length 0.4mm

Z hop Spiral

Retraction Speed is N/A, if toggled on 30mm/s. but I had it off.

(if I'm missing any important settings please ask and I'll see what they're set at)

Any tips on how to fix this problem?

I know theres also a line where the tiny arch connects at the bottom but I'm pretty sure that's because of the failed support (did a lil weird spaghetti so didn't support anything). I've now manually painted the supports which will hopefully fix that problem...

if there are any other things I could improve/fix please be free to let me know. I'm welcome to all help as I'm a complete noob!

Hello /u/AaronJMLP,

As a reminder, most common print quality issues can be found in the Simplify3D picture guide. Make sure you select the most appropriate flair for your post.

Please remember to include the following details to help troubleshoot your problem.

  • Printer & Slicer
  • Filament Material and Brand
  • Nozzle and Bed Temperature
  • Print Speed
  • Nozzle Retraction Settings

Print slower. Tall thin objects get wobbly the taller they get and you get this as a result.

Okay, I'll slow it down more. Thanks!

You have a very aggressive transition between inner and outer walls going from 300 to 60. That may be introducing vibrations that is more noticeable on those narrow posts resulting in the imperfections.

I'll reduce the inner speed then as well, thanks!

Inertia. Tall unsupported fast prints. Slow down the travel speed by half.
