Fix My Print First benchy

So i started 3d printing today and i have this little benchy

I figured i will need to lower the Temp a bit and raise retraction but what else could i do?

I have used PETG, from dasfilament, fresh out of the sealed package on an CR-6 SE printer, set on 230 and 75 degrees, at 50mm/s print speed and 25 mm/s retractions speed.

Hello /u/Zocki-505,

As a reminder, most common print quality issues can be found in the Simplify3D picture guide. Make sure you select the most appropriate flair for your post.

Please remember to include the following details to help troubleshoot your problem.

  • Printer & Slicer
  • Filament Material and Brand
  • Nozzle and Bed Temperature
  • Print Speed
  • Nozzle Retraction Settings

The hull printed. Fine hairs cross the open parts, and the bow and the chimney are a knot of them. The nozzle is leaking while it travels. 230°C is already on the cool side of the 220 to 250 range for this PETG, so leave it for this test. You set the retraction speed. The length is a separate box, and this printer pulls the filament back through a tube.

  1. If the retraction distance is under 5 mm, set it to 5 mm. Set the speed to 40 mm/s. Do not go past 6 mm. A longer pull on this tube leaves a gap at the start of the next line.
  2. Turn Z hop off. Set the travel speed to about 100 mm/s, so the nozzle crosses the deck faster than the 50 mm/s it prints at.
  3. Print the benchy again at 230°C. If the hairs are still there, drop the nozzle to 225°C. If the hull lines start to split, put it back to 230. If the hairs remain, dry the spool at 65°C for 6 hours. A sealed bag does not mean the PETG is dry.

Thanks for the answer

The retraction is standard at 6.5mm and at 40mm/s, i will so i will change and try that.

Z hop is already off and travel speed is standard at 150 mm/s

So i will try it again.

Leave the retraction at 6.5 mm and 40 mm/s. Do not raise it, and do not shorten it. Z hop is already off, and 150 mm/s travel is already faster than the test, so leave that too.

  1. Print the benchy again at 225°C.
  2. If the hull lines start to split, put the nozzle back to 230.
  3. If the hairs are still there, dry the spool at 65°C for 6 hours.

"Fresh" is not the same as "dry."

You've got some tuning to do. Ellis3d.com

Hey you’re in the ball park! Try to print it with an easier filament like pla to start

I have some PLA but that´s too wet to print.

petg is a common filament but imo it's one of the harder ones to get right. this looks like it's hot enough to come out the nozzle, but not hot enough to fuze with the previous layer.

Yeah but i kinda do it because it is harder, using the printer to test if i like printing before buying a new one that´s easier.
