After the release of a report by the House Ethics Committee accusing former Florida Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz of trafficking teenage girls for sex and paying them partially in drugs, two Jane Does have filed a lawsuit against Gaetz. The victims allege being trafficked for sex at the ages of 17 and 19. In an attempt to dox the Jane Does in the lawsuit, Gaetz posted a photo on social media of three bikini-clad young women. Gaetz captioned the photo: “Jane Doe Strikes Again! Two adult women sued me today alleging they were sex trafficked to the Bahamas. I’m shocked nobody responded to their repeated cries for help, posted to instagram.” 

With the threat of the release of the House Ethics report looming, Gaetz did not seek reelection in 2024 for his house seat representing the Florida panhandle. However, Trump nominated Gaetz to be Attorney General soon after. Once it became clear that he did not have the votes for confirmation in the Senate, Trump rescinded Gaetz’ nomination and nominated former Florida AG Pam Bondi, who was confirmed. Despite her fealty to Trump, Bondi was fired after several months on the job, apparently because of her hesitation at prosecuting Trump’s political enemies and her handling of the Epstein scandal. 

A 33-page complaint details how Gaetz used two of his friends, ex-Seminole County tax collector and felon Joel Greenberg, and former Florida House member Christopher Dorworth, to coordinate the recruitment of young women whom they supplied with drugs in order to facilitate sexual encounters, according to the lawsuit. The incidents occurred from 2017 to January 2019.
