Senior Wanting to Apply to Furman
Hi everyone I’m a senior from Georgia and I'm planning to apply to Furman this year. I’m especially interested in the Mathematics-Economics B.S. program.
My current stats are a 35 ACT, 3.9 unweighted GPA, 4.4 weighted GPA, 10+ AP courses completed, and decent extracurriculars as well.
I would really appreciate hearing from current students, alumni, or anyone familiar with the program. How are the economics and math professors? How challenging are the classes, particularly for someone interested in quantitative economics?
I’m also curious about Furman’s opportunities for internships, research, and career placement after graduation especially in areas like economics, finance, data/business analytics, or graduate school.

Our daughter will be a freshman this year. You have excellent stats and would likely qualify for substantial merit. While I can’t speak to the math department, I would go on their website and research the Furman Advantage and their very unique Pathways program. You would also be in an excellent position for internships, from what we understand.

If you search up Furman and mathematics, there are some very positive comments about the math department. In general, my impression is that the professors are dedicated teachers. My daughter is planning to apply to the school.
