You may have heard that we’re trying to open a brick-and-mortar free store, but did you know that you could help make it happen? And, in keeping with our mission, it won’t cost you a thing!
Sign our petition, and tell Heidelberg Materials and Beazer that Gainesville wants this building to become The Free Market!

Okay, Gainesville Reddit. I’m fully aware that I’m opening myself up to ridicule here, but I have a very important question.
Where does one encounter Scottish, English, or Australian men around here? Preferably single and age-appropriate (38-55). Is there a pub? A club? A support group for women who make questionable romantic decisions based entirely on vowel pronunciation?
I’m not necessarily looking for a dating app situation. Just curious if there are particular hangouts or social circles where I might encounter one in the wild.
My sister recently had an Australian AND an Englishman show up to give her quotes for pressure washing, so apparently they’re out there. I’m just looking in all the wrong places. At this point, I'm considering having my driveway pressure washed just to meet someone. Unfortunately, my driveway is already clean, I think the Englishman was married, and I don't think “please say something Australian” qualifies as a legitimate service request.
Yes, I realize I live in Florida. Yes, I realize this is an oddly specific request. Yes, I’m prepared to be roasted.
And if you happen to be a single gentleman with one of the aforementioned accents reading this… well, hello. 👋🤣
No résumé required, although a voice sample may expedite the review process. For scientific purposes, obviously.

Hello all, this is a long shot, but my son dropped his knit octopus toy out of his stroller while we were walking this morning.
Area of Depot/Innovation Parks, 4th Ave SW up to University.
It was made by a family friend, so not readily replaceable. If someone finds it, I would appreciate its return.

There’s always something beautiful about yoga in the park, but when the temperatures start to drop and that magical "crisp" rolls into the air, being outside and soaking up every bit of nature feels even more inviting!
Fall is such a beautiful reminder to slow down, embrace change, breathe a little deeper, and find gratitude in the season we’re in. What better way to welcome the cooler weather than by moving our bodies, grounding ourselves in nature, and sharing a little community? 💚
Join me this Sunday at 10:00 AM at Kanapaha Veterans Memorial Park for Yoga in the Park! Our classes are donation-based, with no commitment and no pressure. Simply donate whatever feels right for you!
Whether you’ve never stepped onto a yoga mat or you’ve been practicing for years, you belong here. Every class is beginner-friendly, with options to explore an added challenge if you feel called to do so.
My hope is to continue growing a community rooted in acceptance, kindness, connection, and the freedom to show up exactly as you are. No experience needed no judgement allowed. Just a group of people coming together to breathe, move, connect, and enjoy this beautiful life we get to share. 🌻
I can’t wait to see you Sunday! ☀️

Hello! I am in search of the Practical Magic series by Alice Hoffman. I would love to but the complete 4 book box set or a bundle of the individual books if someone has them all!! Long shot but I’m hoping someone has them :)

I know this might be a really odd question on here and I know I might not find it in Gainesville, but I was wondering where German speakers or Germans/Austrians in Gainesville hang out at. I’m a huge Germanophile and I’m absolutely obsessed with Northern Europe, so I’d like to be able to find a place to experience German or Scandinavian culture in Gainesville. I already know about the Language Party group at the Boxcar, but I was kinda looking for something more specific. Thanks y’all!

We are looking to partner with local businesses or individuals to help sponsor the Buchholz Girls Basketball team. If this is something that interests you or know someone who would be interested please reach out and I can share the sponsorship packet. Thank you for any consideration!
Hello, I recently moved to Gainesville and I just got into Crocheting, and I’m absolutely hooked (pun intended) I’m wondering if there’s any groups or events that are queer friendly (especially yarn swaps!)

Been waiting for this for a while! I was so disappointed when they had originally closed from their original location on 34th by Nopal’s, but now they’re back! They’re located in Thornebrook Villages on 43rd right around the corner from Bead All About It! For now, they can’t take digital payments until they get internet up (they were in the process of getting it setup today so it should be soonish), so if you go today you have to use either cash or check. However, I’m just glad that they’re back so I can buy my Eastern European foods!
Edit: they were giving out free candy at their store today as well

My sweet 3 month foster kitten Percy is looking for his forever home! He was found by my friend’s neighbor at a colony where she also TNRs. Percy is very affectionate and is an absolute cuddle bug! He loves sitting on my feet, giving me kisses, and playing.
Percy was neutered and vaccinated at Operation Catnip, and he is also dewormed and got Revolution Plus (flea treatment). If you are interested in adopting him, please message me, and please share with anyone who might be interested!

We have 4 cats. They're all completely indoor. We never had this issue before but we moved into our current house not too long ago, so I think it's just different here.
I discovered them about two weeks ago. I randomly saw one walk across one of my cats hairline or else I wouldnt have noticed. I washed and vacuumed everything. I put on the Amazon topical which is essentially the same exact thing as advantage 2. I think it's working? Fleas are not out of control. I've never seen one jumping around. Every time I comb them (I probably comb two of them every other day). I get 2- 5 on my longer hair cats and 1-2, sometimes none on my short hair (very short). They walk around the comb and usually don't jump. I'm assuming that means they're dying? I know theres definitely eggs that are going to be hatching over time and it's not possible to get them all so there will be fleas. Still, it just grosses me out obviously. Ill see little red spots from flea poop that fell off them and it makes my skin crawl.
I'm curious what topicals are the best in Gainesville. Do you find that it takes sometime for the topicals to kill the fleas? I know a few animals personally that have died from the pill so that's not even a consideration for me.

Hi all - trying to find a good, trustworthy cleaner that can give my home, especially my bathroom, a good deep cleaning. Likely a one-time thing for now, but might wind up being a monthly thing.
Any suggestions? (if you know what they charge as well, wouldn't mind that info, but cool if not)
Thanks!

Hey everyone, first time on this sub but I’m sure this questions gets asked often so my bad.
I’m moving to Gainesville in a couple months to begin working as a nurse at Shands. I’ll be moving there alone. What’s fun to do there as a 27 year old guy? Cool bars? Nice museums? Where do people hang out? Any car specific stuff? Would love to hear. Thanks for reading!

Howdy folks! I was looking for places to take my son trick r treating on Halloween. My neighborhood unfortunately is all old people who don’t hand out candy even though there are a few select families like myself who have children in my neighborhood. I know there are events like boo at the zoo and the thornebrooke plaza events that lead up to it. But it sucks that he won’t be able to get to trick r treat on Halloween :(

top best restaurants in gainesville fl, i literally spend my days off eating out, I KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT GIVE ME A CHANCE
Nopal(mexican): But like mexican modern? Hidden gem idk why they would open THAT GOOD OF A RESTAURANT in the middle of nowhere but go and order the Scampi omfg and they have a corn creme brûlée omfg
Wahaha: Amazing place too, i always get the Pad see ew with beef OMFG so good, i need to expand on their menu but very worthy of your money to visit
RED RICE KITCHEN (asian fusion i think): THE BEST PLACE, i’ve tried almost the whole menu and they hit every single time, it’s crazy. The pho, curry, soups, noddles i literally cant get over it it’s almost like they put drugs on their foos bc i cant stop eating it and loving it (they dont put drugs in their foos just in case just good asf) Very worthy of your money, get the pho it’s like a warm hug
La tienda(mexican classic): For birria tacos yes this place, i dont love other types of tacos here bc they’re not cooked on the spot, the birria tho they are so they come out fresh just made, perfect ratio of cheese, beef and spice good asf
Chellys (veenzuelan): im venezuelan, and i can say this place is THE BEST VENEZUELAN PLACE IN GAINESVILLE, this place brings me back home so if you really want classic and genuine venezuelan food visit this place, dont get tricked into going to other “fancy looking restaurants” chellys is a food truck and its so mf worth it. art.
cuban bakery: good asf cuban sandwiches and good asf coffee made by an actual cuban lady, they have a bunch of desserts and breakfast options, idk why it’s empty everytime i go it’s really good
Sushi restaurants: This is a delicate topic for me, and controversial for the sushi lovers, i can only talk in my experience so pls no offense
7.1 Koto: simple, good asf and fast
7.2 Sushi sake: it’s good, expensive and nice ambiance, try the stake tartare
7.3 mattari: Very cute in the inside and good food
Jamexican food truck: If you find them somewhere and they’re open just drop everything you’re doing and go get the curry chicken birria tacos. they have a small menu, i used to go every week in 2024 idk what happened that they closed for so long and i just saw them by downtown by the little plaza where all the food trucks park. ITS REALLY GOOD GO TRY IT
i have some more but this is my top that i would fight for it and my usuals

I'm in between jobs, and I figured donating plasma/platelets (something I'm accustomed to with double red donations) would be a good way to have some extra cash for the month. I see there's a handful of options and wanted to hear your experiences, thank you!
