Gaming tech discourse has been tainted by 4K and RT debates. If you're on 1080p or 1440p, it's kind of moot when far cheaper or older cards can still do their jobs well. 3080 is fine.

I'm more and more convinced that all the comparison posts I see showcasing PT/RT and "legacy" lighting is just cope from people who need reassurance that the extra $1-2k premium they spent on their GPU was justified when all their friends are still using their old GPU's from 10 years ago without any complaints.

Modern games rely more and more on framegen and DLSS to achieve desirable framerates. Having a card without them is a death sentence. The new Gears runs at 50fps at 2k on a 4070, and 90-120fps with framegen and quality DLSS. I would not enjoy the game struggling at 50fps on the 3080, nor would I want to lower my graphics any further.

I much prefer the native sharpness on the 4K. I run a 3080 aswell and last year i upgraded to a 9800x3d and top of the line ram before the prices jumped.

I play every game 4K + DLSS Quality or with a custom dlss preset usually around 80-87% resolution. Ive yet to see a need to upgrade.

Except for competitive shooters. Then everything is set to low and im playing on my Benq 2746S @ 1080p or lower anyways.

5090 is beautiful for cs2 in 4k max graphics, though particle graphics are set to low as smokes will cause fps drops at any other setting

Anything 4070 or higher could easily achieve that with high frame rate. The game isn't hard to run. Don't know why you'd care about graphics in a fast-paced competitive shooter to begin with 🤷

WTF, FPS drops in cs2 with a 5090? You'd be talking like a drop from 500FPS to 300FPS or something lol
