It really insane to me that individual consumers are competing with industrial operations. This is actually wild.

But on the other hand the gaming industry needs to adapt. The mindless graphics race needs to stop and be replaced with artistic style and optimization.

Right now I'm playing the new Hellraiser and it's running beautifully on my 2019 rig.

I think it's more of a regulation problem.

If you have an industry that has catered to consumers and suddenly it pivots away from that, you're talking about a monopoly or collusion or something of the sort, and governments need to step in with regulation or other corrective measures, or figure out some ways to lower the barriers to entry of the industry so other companies can step up to fill the gap.

I don't see anything like that happening under the current US administration, of course.

The problem with chip manufacturing is that it's so high tech and requires a global collaboration and complex supply chain. beyond it being a consumer issue it's also becoming a national security issue.

But yeah, regulation of tech is so abysmal and legislation can't keep up, not to mention the massive political influence of tech billionaires.

Government stepping in to correct anything always makes things worse. If you think things are (rightfully) bad now you ain't seen nothing yet if the gov't gets involved.

It's neither a monopoly nor collusion on the gpu vendor side; it's a normal resource constraint with a market that grew massively since 2022. Regulators can't really do anything there, short of (as some countries have) investing billions in new fabs which still takes many years to pay off.

Yeah, I'm playing Sulfur, and my 4080 can get about 2,000fps, lol. I just cap it at 180 to match my monitor and my GPU fans don't even come on because it's like 8% load.

100+ fps on the Steam Deck too, so perfect to cap to 90hz.

Highly recommend if you like fast paced shooters with tons of different guns, gear, and loot to discover. I think it's my favorite modern boomer shooter besides DOOM 2016.
