IMAGE [Image] You remember what you didn’t do and forget what you did. Two minutes with a done list tonight fixes the record.

Tracking progress really shifts your mindset. It’s eye-opening!

The number comes from Harkin et al. (2016), a meta-analysis of 138 studies in Psychological Bulletin. People who monitored their progress toward a goal were more likely to reach it, and the effect was bigger when the progress was physically recorded.

Why a done list in particular: bad moments weigh more than good ones in everyone’s memory. With ADHD, working memory also tends to lose the small wins before the day is over. So the review you run in your head at night is tilted toward what you didn’t do.

To try it tonight: two minutes, one line for each thing you got done, small things included. The email you finally sent counts, and so do the five minutes you spent starting something. Keep it on one sheet for a week and count the lines on Sunday.

Disclosure: the image is from my book, The Short Version: Focus with ADHD (100 ideas for ADHD brains, two pages each). It’s on Amazon under Alexander Crespo. I’ve left out the link but it's in my bio if you want to check it out.
